Professional groups want ongoing strike to be withdrawn; will organize peace rally on May 7
Various
professional groups and human rights organizations have urged concerned
parties to immediately call off the ongoing general strike that has
entered its 4th day on Wednesday and resolve all outstanding problems
through constitutional means.
A meeting of top
representatives of Nepal Bar Association, Federation of Nepalese
Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Nepal Chamber of Commerce, Nepal
Teachers' Association, National Private and Boarding Schools'
Organization of Nepal, Nepal Medical Association, Human Rights
Organization of Nepal (HURON) including civil society leaders,
professors and media persons held on Wednesday drew the attention
towards the adverse effects the ongoing Maoist called general strike is
having on the normal life of people across the country.
The meeting also decided to organize a peace rally at Basantapur Durbar Square of Kathmandu on Friday, May 7.
The
programme which is scheduled to start at 9 am is being organized with
the view to resolve all problems through dialogue while giving central
priority to the peace process and constitution drafting and immediately
stop all instances of human rights violation, according to a press
statement issued after the meeting.
All peace loving people of the country have been called upon to show their active participation in the programme.
During
the course of the meeting, there was also decision to organize similar
rally and programmes all across the country on the same date and time. Nepalnews.com
