I do not think anybody is in this situation but would really appreciate if anybody knows anything about this. One of my friend was about to graduate this semester from nursing school but did not make in one class and got C-. His 1-20 is expiring in 20 days and we do not know what to do. The class that he failed is offered only next year in that University and many colleges are telling him that it is not possible to graduate from other universities just by taking one class, their minimum credit hours is 30 -35 which is going to take another 2 more semesters. Which is a long time and a lot of credit hours for nursing student who was about to graduate. Please let me know the name of college, in any state which can take my friend at this situation. His GPA is above 3.5. He is very smart, but do not know what happen to him. Its hard to believe and any help with school would be really appreciative.

I20 can be extended with his international student office without a problem, the reason would be that the time to graduate just got longer because of the extra course required. He might be able to talk to the advisors and just take only a class to remain in status. This of course after happen if advisor takes it well.
If there isnt any way the college wouldnt let him do that , do a cpt if available or if not OPT. The best thing is talk to advisors. I hope he took 12 credits already this year so that he can take summer off without a problem. The problem is for next sem which should be solved by the Opt or cpt. Make sure he doesnt take full 12 months opt so he gets only his half opt deducted.Advisors.. They are there to help. He can talk to dean of college if advisors do not help him.
Take care

Gold nani, I will suggest that your friend talk to the adviser as soon as possible and explain the situation. That's the first thing I would suggest your friend to do. I-20 can be extended by the adviser, so tell your friend to contact adviser or the college dean.

c- is not failing in most universities. even D is a pass grade in most universities. are you sure C- is a failing grade in that university. if he wants to retake the class he can come back after opt even in h1 and take it again.

p shrestha, nursing world is little different in some of the colleges. c is nothing, even b is nothing in some colleges. you have to get A else you will fail. i have seen some nursing colleges like that. one of my friend was in similar situation but she was managed to wait since the class she failed was offered after one semester. she took some junk class for one semester. i will advise your friend to talk to his advisor and only he can guide him what to do.............

thank you guys for your ideas and suggestions, This School just seems so different from other schools that I have seen. This school does not even seem interested in helping international students. He planned to do CPT, but the adviser told him that he can not do it because he failed one of the nursing classes, also they are telling him he can not stay in OPT before graduation. How can he stay in OPT without graduation? also, this college is very expensive to renew the I-20, but my friend is just tired of transferring to community college and going back to the same place when they (the school)was not helpful. If anybody had been in this situation and was able to transfer to different school and be able to graduate, let us know. Thank you.

Hello There is no way that your freind can take 1 class in other colleges and those colleges will let him graduate. In my opinion, the only way to get out from this is to talk to the professor. May be, the professor/college will let him take that specific course as an independent studies. Most of the time, the professor must have to agree that he/she is willing to teach that course as an independent studies. Tell the professor, that he/she does not have to teach, your freind will study in his own and will give the exam. Thanks
