Hi,
I'm a under grad student here on his 5th year of a 5year visa. My F1 Visa is expiring soon and I would like to renew it as I might want to travel to nepal or outside united states someday . I dont want to travel to nepal to renew it..coz i have heard few cases in which visas were denied and people say its risky.. or maybe if i did travel to nepal and applied for visa renewal
My questions: 1. Can I apply and appear for a Visa renewal *before* expiry of my current F1 visa?
2. If I appear for my Visa interview *before* my current F1 expires and my renewal is rejected - will I still be able to return to the United States on my current unexpired F1 visa? Or will they somehow "cancel" or "revoke" my existing F1 visa if the renewal is rejected?
3. Even if my current visa is not "revoked" and is valid, will I still be allowed to enter the country on it? (I understand a visa is not a guarantee of entry).
4. What influence, if any, will a rejection on my F1 renewal have on future visa (and other immigration related) applications?
Many thanks in advance for any advise / information.
help please!!

Yes you can.
2. If I appear for my Visa interview *before* my current F1 expires and my renewal is rejected - will I still be able to return to the United States on my current unexpired F1 visa? Or will they somehow "cancel" or "revoke" my existing F1 visa if the renewal is rejected?
Most probably they'll cancel your remaining visa too.
3. Even if my current visa is not "revoked" and is valid, will I still be allowed to enter the country on it? (I understand a visa is not a guarantee of entry).
Yes you can re-enter if u have valid visa and valid F1 status.
4. What influence, if any, will a rejection on my F1 renewal have on future visa (and other immigration related) applications?
For future visa its all about documentations and your interview.

whatever imo5 has wrote is true. I have personal experience in this case. I appeared 5 months before my visa was about to expire. Definitely they gonna ask you questions related to your study, especially your gpa and college you've attended so far and the reasons for transfer (if you transfeerred). If you have worked without permission, do not apply . If rejected, they will cancel your current visa too. For F1 student, valid I-20 and valid visa is needed to reenter this country. Don't forget to get your I-20 signed by your advisor. If you get rejected once, the chances of getting visa gradually decreases.

Yes, you can apply for the new visa before your previous visa expires. Please note that the previous visa will be cancelled or taken up as part of the process of issuing a new visa.
2. If I appear for my Visa interview *before* my current F1 expires and my renewal is rejected - will I still be able to return to the United States on my current unexpired F1 visa?Or will they somehow "cancel" or "revoke" my existing F1 visa if the renewal is rejected?
It depends on the Consular, he/she may cancel the current Visa as well.
3. Even if my current visa is not "revoked" and is valid, will I still be allowed to enter the country on it? (I understand a visa is not a guarantee of entry).
Yes, if you have a Valid Visa and not "revoked", you maybe able to reenter US. 4. What influence, if any, will a rejection on my F1 renewal have on future visa (and other immigration related) applications ? First of all, if you're a continuing student and in good-academic standing. the chance of getting F1 renewal denial is minimal. For future Visa, it depends on the case/scenario. Good Luck.

If your gpa is outstanding and have good reason for staying that long in community college, chances of visa renewal is high. But still, you will be taking risk.
