The only way to get around this difficulty is to have a cheap health insurace. However, thats not an easy to deal with. Why don't you see your local hospital if there is any financial help desk? You can visit a doctor and claim you dont have insurace for your wife. Later when they bill you talk to financial desk to help you out. This process however, is only available in few hospital that is linked to Medical college of the same university that you are working as GTA/GRA and also a full time student.
The most affordable way to deal with health issue is to find a local Indian or Chinese doctor who takes patients without insurace. They have fairly low fees per visit and help you out most of the time with OCD. I have seen many of my friends using such facilities around TX, NY, AL and many places. I would like you to see if any of those doctors are available your Dayton area.
But if your wife is pregenet (which I assume you want to keep silent) and you want her medical check up than the issue is entirely different. I may provide you with tips (which may be helpful-but get stand on that) to help you on the process. Just shoot an email.
Call some of them and tell them you are low income student and your wife needs immediate treatment. Since these clinics are for low income, you will be able to get treatment for nominal costs.
