Days after a devastating earthquake and consequent eruption, Mount Merapi has erupted again in Indonesia. The first Mount Merapi eruption killed over 30 people. The recent undersea Indonesia earthquake has devastated the area. The quake triggered a tsunami, flooding and a volcanic eruption, and hundreds are dead or missing. You will find aid organizations on the ground, but are having a hard time delivering the help that numerous need. Second eruption Mount Merapi makes

On Java Island, another eruption came from the Mount Merapi volcano. The BBC Reports that just two days before had been the first erruption. As a result of burns or suffocation from gasses, there were 32 people killed with the first erruption. At least 20 of those people were buried in a communal grave outside of Sidorejo, which is south of the volcano. Among the deceased had been Maridjan, a local elder who had been considered the spiritual guardian of the volcano. There are still aid workers looking for victims of the first blast when numerous victims are beginning to show respiratory problems as a result of the exposure.

Hard to get aid in

Aid and relief efforts are slow going. There hasn’t been much aid coming in for victims of the Indonesia earthquake. This is since the terrain is so terrible along with the flooding happening. The journey into the hardest hit areas, like the Pagai Islands, takes nearly a day within the best conditions, as outlined by CNN. The hardest hit islands by the Indonesian tsunami were surrounding islands of Sumatra and Java. Because of the earthquake and tsunami, 300 are missing when 400 were killed. Thousands are homeless.

UN and nonprofits send aid

The United Nations has sent in relief workers and aid. Nonprofits like SurfAid has sent in some too. There is going to be time needed to fix the issues from the volcanic eruptions, earthquake and tsunami more than other things.
