Lot of Chettris of Nepal are proud of their so called bahadur heritage and they call newars all sort of names. Finally a newar shrestha has shown what we are made of. When is the last time you have heard of any bahaduri from a Chettriya?

पचासौँ डाँकासँग लडेको त्यो दिन..

म पर्वतको बाच्छा गाविसमा जन्मेको हुँ । अहिले ३७ वर्षको भएँ । परिवारसहित पोखराको बैदाममा बस्दै आएको १५ वर्ष भयो । घरमा अहिले बाआमा, श्रीमती, एक छोरो र एक छोरी छन् । बुबा क्याप्टेन गोपाल श्रेष्ठ भारतीय सेनामै हुनुहुन्थ्यो, त्यसैले म बाल्यकालमा कहिले भारत र कहिले नेपालमा पढेँ । १३/१४ वर्षको हुँदा बाबासँगै भारत गएँ र सिलोङमै १० कक्षामा पढ्दै गर्दा सन् १९९४ मा त्यहीँबाट भारतीय सेनाको ७/८ जिआर पल्टनमा भर्ती भएँ । २२ वर्ष नोकरी गरेर पेन्सन आउनुपर्ने भए पनि त्यतिन्जेल पर्खन मन भएन । त्यसैले पि्रमेच्योर पेन्सन (अपरिपक्व निवृत्तिभरण) मा आउने निर्णय गरेँ र १७ वर्ष काम गरेको पल्टनबाट राजीनामा दिएँ ।

खासमा मैले विदेश जाने मनस्थिति बनाएको थिएँ, खाडी वा अन्त कतै । राजीनामा स्वीकृत पनि भयो । १७ वर्षे जागिरबाट बिदा भएर पेन्सनमा बस्न कागजपत्र मिलाएर म देश र्फकंदै थिएँ । त्यो दिन थियो- २ सेप्टेम्बर सन् २०१० । मौर्य एक्सप्रेसको रेलमा म ५ बजे राँचीबाट गोरखपुर आउँदै थिएँ । राति साढे ११ तिर होहल्लाले बिउँझेँ । पश्चिम-बंगालको चित्रनजंग जंगलमा ४०/४५ जनाको डाँकाले ट्रेन रोकेर लुटपाट गर्न लागेका रहेछन् । आधा घन्टा जतिपछि म बसेको डिब्बामा आइपुगे । मलाई तिनीहरूले 'पैसा दो, ल्यापटप दो, मोबाइल दो, जो कुछ है दे दो' -पैसा दे, ल्यापटप दे, मोबाइल दे, जे सामान छ सबै दे) भने । मैले 'किन दिने ?' भनी प्रतिप्रश्न गर्दा एउटा लुटेराले मेरो गालामा एक थप्पड हान्यो । मैले भनेँ- तुम ने फौजी पे हात उठाया, ये गलत किया (तैले फौजी मान्छेमाथि हात लगाइस्, यो ठीक होइन) । झोँक चल्यो, मैले उठेर दनादन दिन (पिट्न) थालेँ । ८/१० जना लुटेरालाई त बक्सिङ हानेरै ढलाएँ ।

त्यसको दुई मिनेट जतिपछि ३०/३५ जनाजति लुटेरा म बसेको डिब्बामा पसे । मलाई लाग्यो- बेकारमा हात हालिएछ, अब म खत्तम हुने भएँ । मलाई लुटेरा यति धेरै होलान् भन्ने लागेको पनि थिएन । हात त हालिहालियो, अब आइलागे जाइलाग्नुपर्छ भन्ने सोचेँ । पछि आएका लुटेराले फेरि मसँग भएको सामान मागे । त्यही वेला मैले पिटेर लडाएकामध्ये एकले 'ये फौजी है, लफडा कर सकता है, छोड दो (यो फौजी मान्छे रैछ, नमाग, यसले लफडा गर्न सक्छ) भन्यो । त्यसपछि 'इसको छोड दो' (यसलाई छोड) भन्दै उनीहरू गए ।

म ट्रेनको ४७ नम्बर सिटमा बसेको थिएँ । मलाई छाडे पनि लुटेराले अरूलाई चाहिँ लुटिरहेका थिए । म बसेको डिब्बाको ५१ नम्बर सिटमा १७/१८ वर्षकी जस्ती देखिने पन्जाबी केटी आफ्ना बाआमासँग थिइन् । दुई मिनेट जतिपछि लुटेराहरूले उनीहरूका सबै सामान लुटे । त्यसपछि ती केटीलाई जबर्जस्ती गर्न खोजे । उनलाई 'कपडा उतारो' (लुगा खोल) भने । युवतीले रुँदै 'हमारे पास जो था, दे दिया, अब ऐसा क्यों करते हो ? (हामीसँग भएको सबै दिइसक्यौँ, अब किन यसो गर्छौ ?) भनिन् । उनीहरूबीच दुई मिनेट जति भनाभन भयो । त्यतिन्जेल मैले केही बोलिनँ । त्यसपछि एक लुटेराले 'बक्बास मत करो' (बेकारको हल्ला नगर्) भन्दै केटीलाई समायो र उसको अगाडिको भागको कपडा च्यातिदियो । फिल्ममा जस्तो दुईजनाले खुट्टा र दुईजनाले हात समाते । कुरा बुझियो- केटीलाई उनीहरूले बलात्कार गर्न खोजे । ती केटी 'भैया मुझे बचाओ, बचाओ' (दाइ, मलाई बचाऊ-बचाऊ) भनेर रुन थालिन् । सुरुमा त म उनको कुनै भैया (भाइ वा दाइ) रैछ कि भनेर अकमक्क परेँ । पछि ती केटीले 'आर्मी भैया, मुझे बचाओ' (सैनिक दाइ, मलाई बचाऊ) भनिन् । मैले भारतीय सेनाको टिसर्ट लगाएको थिएँ । मैले बल्ल बुझेँ, उनले मसँग गुहार मागेकी हुन् । मेरो स्वाभिमान जाग्यो । आँखै अगाडि एउटी बहिनीको बलात्कार भएको त कसरी हेर्नु गाँठे ? हुन त ती केटीलाई मैले चिनेको पनि थिइनँ । ती मेरी बहिनी पनि थिइनन् । तर, ती कसैकी बहिनी र कसैकी छोरी त थिइन् नि ।

मैले झोलाबाट सीधै खुकुरी निकालेँ । केटीले गुहारेपछि लुटेराहरू पनि मप्रति सतर्क थिए र मलाई आक्रमण गर्न लागेका थिए । मैले लुटेरामध्येको एकलाई च्याप्प समातेँ र उनको घाँटीमा खुकुरी राखेँ । 'कोई आगे मत आना, नहीँ तो मार दुंगा' (कोही अगाडि नआऊ नत्र यसलाई मारिदिन्छु) भनेँ र उसलाई ढाल बनाएँ । केहीबेर त लुटेराहरू चुप लागे तर पछि 'उसको जो करेगा तु भी वही भुगतेगा' (उसलाई जे गर्छस्, तैँले पनि त्यही व्यहोर्छस्) भनेर धम्क्याए ।

मैले त्यसलाई अघि सारेँ र खुकुरी घुमाउँदै म पछि उभिएँ । त्यसो गर्दै अलि अघि बढेँ र बलात्कार गर्न लागेको ठाउँमा पुगेँ । एउटा लुटेरा केटीको कपडा तान्दै थियो, मैले त्यसको गर्धनमै खुकुरी हानेँ । त्यसपछि केटीको हात र खुट्टा तानिरहेकाहरू अघि आए । मैले अन्धाधुन्ध खुकुरी नचाएँ । मलाई कहाँ के भयो, केही थाहा थिएन । ती केटीलाई बचाउनेबाहेक मैले अरू केही सोचेको पनि थिइनँ । पछि पो थाहा पाएँ, बलात्कार गर्न खोज्नेमध्ये तीनजना मरेछन् र छ/सातजना घाइते भएछन् ।

मैले सोचेँ, अब हल्ला मच्चाउनुपर्छ र बाँकी लुटेरालाई डर देखाउनुपर्छ । मैले जथाभावी खुकुरी नचाएँ र अन्धाधुन्ध लात्ती हानेँ । अचानक केटी आएर 'भैया, आपने बुझे बचाया' (दाइ, तपाइर्ंले मलाई बचाउनुभयो) भनेपछि म झसङ्ग भएँ । त्यतिवेलासम्म म एक्लै लडेको थिएँ । डिब्बाका कसैले पनि मलाई सघाएनन् । लुटेराहरू साँच्चिकै डराएछन् । ती आफ्ना मरेका साथी र घाइते साथीलाई लिएर भागेछन् । लडाइँ बढीमा ४०-४५ मिनेट चल्यो होला । लुटेरा भागेपछि शान्ति छायो ।

केटीले मलाई 'आप सचमुच बहादुर आदमी हो' (तपाइ साँच्चै नै बहादुर पुरुष हुनुहुँदो रहेछ) भनेर प्रशंसा गरिन् । अहिलेसम्म रमिते भएका डिब्बाका अरू मान्छेले पनि मेरो हाईहाई गरे । त्यतिवेलासम्म ट्रेन जंगलमै थियो । त्यसको आधा घन्टा जतिपछि दुईजना आए, यात्रुजस्तो भएर । तिनले मलाई दाव (खुँडा) ले देब्रे नाडीमा हिर्काए अनि भागे । ती लुटेरा रहेछन् । मैले तिनीहरूलाई पछ्याउँदै थिएँ तर डिब्बामा भएका अरू यात्रुले रोके । मैले तिनीहरूलाई उतिवेलै झापड दिन खोजेको थिएँ तर दावको चोट खाइसकेको हात उठ्नै सकेन ।

२०/२५ मिनेटपछि बल्ल रेल चल्यो र एक, डेढ घन्टापछि चित्रनजंग स्टेसनमा आइपुग्यो । त्यहाँ यात्रुले चेन तानेर रेल रोके । त्यसपछि ती केटीले बाहिर निस्केर हंगामा मच्चाइन् । उनले मलाई उपचार र रेलवे क्षतिपूर्ति दिनुपर्छ भनेर चिच्याइन् । रेलका यात्रुले पनि त्यसमा सहमति जनाए । उनीहरूले साथ दिएका कारण मैले कानुनी झन्झट पनि भोग्न परेन । रेलवे पुलिसको गस्ती टोलीले घटनास्थलबाट दुई सय मोबाइल, १५/२० वटा सुनको सिक्री, सात लाख जति नगद र २० वटा ल्यापटप अनि ६/७ जना लुटेरा समातेछ । मैले पछि थाहा पाएँ ।

त्यही रेलवे अस्पतालमा मेरो प्राथमिक उपचार भयो र हातमा नर्मल प्लास्टर गरियो । त्यो रात म अस्पतालमै बसेँ । कताबाट हल्ला भएछ कुन्नि, राति तीन बजेतिर भारतीय टेलिभिजन र पत्रिकाका पत्रकार ओइरिए र मेरो अन्तर्वार्ता लिन थाले । म अस्पतालमै हुँदा मेरो कमान्ड अफिसरको फोन आयो । 'आप ने बहुत अच्छा किया, अच्छी टि्रटमेन्ट करना, मैं डाक्टर से बात करता हुँ' (तपाइले एकदमै राम्रो काम गर्नुभयो । राम्ररी उपचार गर्नुहोला । म डाक्टरसँग कुरा गर्छु) भन्नुभो । त्यही वेलादेखि मलाई एक अफिसर र ६ जना जवान सुरक्षाका लागि सेनाले खटायो भने रेलवेले दिएको सेनाले म बसेको अस्पताल पूरै घेरे । म बसेको बेडमा पनि एक अफिसर र ६ जना सुरक्षाका लागि खटाइए ।

डाक्टरले मेरो हातमा भएको घाउको चेकजाँच गरेपछि अप्रेसन गर्न नपर्ने बताए । म त्यस अस्पतालमा दुई दिन बसेँ । मेरो हातको हड्डी र नसा काटिएको थियो । त्यस अस्पतालमा नसाको डाक्टर नभएपछि त्यसको तीन दिनपछि एक अफिसर र ६ जवानसहित मलाई कमान्ड अस्पताल कलकत्तामा उपचारका लागि लगियो । अप्रेसनपछि म एक महिना त्यही अस्पतालमा बेड रेस्टका लागि बसेँ । म बसेको अस्पतालमा सोही राज्यका रेलमन्त्री आएर मलाई भेटेका थिए । मेरो सो बहादुरी काम देखेर भारतीय सेनाले मेरो राजीनामा फिर्ता लिई पुनः मलाई काममा बोलायो र उपचारपछि अक्टोबर ५ तारिखमा अफिसरले मलाई डेढ महिनाको घरबिदा दिई दुई गार्डसहित घर पठाए ।

७ तारिखमा म मेरो घर पोखरा आएँ र मसँग आएका दुई गार्डलाई भारत फर्काइदिएँ । नोभेम्बर १६ मा अफिसमा हाजिर हुनुपर्ने थियो । त्योभन्दा पहिले नोभेम्बर १० मा पल्टनबाटै दुईजना सुरक्षागार्ड मलाई लिन आए । म उनीहरूसँगै कोलकाताको कमान हस्पिटल गएँ र चेकजाँज गराउन १५ दिन त्यहीँ बसँे । त्यसपछि म पल्टनमा हाजिर हुन गएँ र १६ दिन पल्टनमा बसेँ । त्यहीवेला पल्टनमा सैनिक सम्मेलन गरी ५० हजार इनाम, चाँदीको खुकुरी, ब्लेजर, कोट र पाइन्ट मलाई उपहार दिइयो । पुस १ गते फेरि म एक महिनाको घरबिदा लिएर नेपाल आएँ । त्यो वेला पनि दुईजना गार्ड मेरा साथमै आएका थिए । अब म आउँदो शनिबार माघ १ गते पल्टनमा हाजिर हुन जाँदै छु । मलाई मेरो बहादुरी देखेर सेनाको हेडक्वार्टरमा तीनवटा बहादुरी मेडल शौर्य चक्र, बे्रेभरी अवार्ड, सर्वोत्तम जीवन रक्षा मेडलका लागि सिफारिस गरिएको छ । मैले २६ जनवरी वा १५ अगस्टमा यी पदक पाउने सम्भावना पनि छ ।

It is not about newars or chettri. It is a story of a brave soldier and proud Nepali. 

Also understand that he is not KTM newar, newars out of valley are different, they are very receptive, friendly  and they know what actual nepal looks like -( No offense to KTM newar-but this is a fact). I do not mean to say KTM newar are coward, but thier priorities are different. Again with that said, let us not fight along the line of race and ethnicity! Let us  be proud Nepali.

Sometimes we do have reason to proud ourself being a Nepali.

If we study the genome of the human , we will conclude that the primitive  human beings had one single mother and we all are the off springs of her. Mother nature created  different race and ethnicity    people . slowly different gestured people were seen , more interestingly, Nepal is such a place where different caste and ethnicity  people are living  with peace and harmony . the mule of Indian either Dravidian  or Aryan  and Mongol  were the parental roots of Niwar. many sociologist and anthropologist believed that the Niwar are the people who were migrated from Indian and there forefather were the NAYAR of India. Some historian believed that after 10^th century, the Nepalese society was homogenous because of the contact of exotic  forces. Kiratis , Niwar and Chhetry and Brahmin were the people and as a result of social Welfare task done by the  Jayasthi  Malla  endogamy  marriage were encouraged, and  some sort of racism existed in the Nepalese societies.  After the long war among  European countries , they don’t like to talk about the race, however, the eastern people are arguing , each other about the supremacy although we don’t know what kind of blood is circulating in our body . Mixed or what… and we all are proud of giving the name of father clan but most of the people don’t know what clan their great .. great ..great mother belonged to..

 Now a day Nepalese  media are highlighting  a brave son  of Nepal , Bishnu  Shrestha  . Indeed, as a Nepali I am proud of talking his name. he is a brave son of Nepal . we all should salute such MAHA NAYAK. But again  like a shit Shrestha babu always spoil the name of Shrestha   , social peace and harmony.    Again Shrestha Babu  you have to understand one thing about the root of Bishnu shrestha  Bravery.  British Gorkha regiment was occupied by Ghale, Gurung, rai , Limbu , and cherty. They hoisted the British flag  in Burma, Malaya, Falkland, Brunei and their  kept our name as Gorkhali .  As the respect of these people bravery , Bishnu  Shrestha was welcomed in Indian Gorkha rifles. He is considered as Gorkha  not a Niwar. If you think niwar are so Brave, tell me other story like this , I will be grateful. If not don’t try to write such racist story and don’t try to mess up social harmony. Once again , Bishnu is a brave  man we should salute him and you are such a coward person because you are taking credit of his bravery. We will not be in that equation  because you are a loser .

Anyways if we shouldn't care about him being a newar why do we care that he is from Nepal? Maybe you can just say he's a brave human being and move on. If you have to classify him as a Nepali then why can't you classify him as Newar.

I have nothing against other castes. I am just apalled at some so called descendants of chettris who still want to believe they are warriors. Just makes me laugh that's why I brought this topic to give them something to think about.

I think everyone can be brave depending on their situation just like this man was.

This is the problem that we have. When someone does something good, we are after them. When anyone is in deep problem , many of us try to run away bringing cast, status, and color.
So sad, many of us dont realize the greatest thing is to give, not take.
Plz dont bring any thing that divide us. We all have our social backgrounds and we should be proud of that.

6 arrested for train robbery, injuring 20

Pictures by Gour Sharma Asansol, Sept. 3: Six youths were arrested in Asansol for robbing the Hatia-Gorakhpur Mourya Express in the early hours today and injuring 20 passengers, including a Gorkha Regiment jawan who was attacked with a dagger for trying to stop the gang from snatching the earrings of a woman. Around 15 robbers, armed with revolvers and daggers, broke the windowpanes of two AC three-tier compartments and three sleeper coaches and entered the train after some of their accomplices who had boarded earlier, pretending to be passengers, pulled the chain. The train was stopped at 12.30am in a jungle between Kulti and Chittaranjan, near the Jharkhand border. The robbers snatched cash, ornaments and cellphones in a heist that lasted 45 minutes. The passengers claimed no security guard came to their rescue although five Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel were on the train. A few hours after the robbery, a police team from Asansol’s Salanpur patrolling the area saw two youths waiting at Dendua level crossing near the Bengal-Jharkhand border with two large bags. The policemen searched their bags and found several cellphones, wallets and wristwatches. One of them was arrested while the other escaped. Based on information provided by the arrested youth, a joint team comprising Railway Protection Force and GRP personnel raided some hideouts in Sitarampur and Chittaranjan and picked up five other gang members. “Six robbers have been arrested and Rs 10,470 in cash, 33 mobile phones, 14 wrist watches and an ATM card were seized from them. We have also seized two pistols, live cartridges and daggers from the robbers, who are residents of Shimultala in Jharkhand,” said R.S.P. Singh, senior security commandant of Asansol RPF. Bishnu Shrestha, the injured Gorkha Regiment jawan, said he was travelling in one of the AC coaches when some of the robbers barged into the compartment. “I attacked the robbers with my khukhuri. As I tried to stop one of them from snatching the earrings of a woman, he hit me on my left arm with his dagger,” said Shrestha, who was going to Gorakhpur. Shrestha, who is posted in Ranchi, said he had injured three robbers with his weapon. The train started moving after the robbers escaped. Passengers demonstrated on the platform after the train reached Chittaranjan, accusing the GRP and the RPF of negligence. They also blocked the tracks for about an hour. The train left Chittaranjan at 3am.

Personally i don't care if this guy was shrestha, sharma, pariyar or rana. He's just another guy who chose to do what he did.
