When a country is ruled by Monkeys, it is the case!!!
Nepal has been ruled by monkeys since many many decades!!!
Yes, it is really bad.
(Note: Nepal is not the only country that is so bad.....)

why share -ve only.. every coin has 2 sides (3 if u consider the edges too) same blogger has sth +ve abt his trip .. i m sure reader who read this, read the other one too.. why not share those as well.. the blogger said (wrote) at the end "I came, I experienced, it was pretty."
lets have faith in ourself.. lets share the positivity.... let us be optimistic.

Perfectionist,
Your point is well taken. For me, I was a bit shocked reading the initial blog. It made my heart sink. I feel I am very inclined to see the positive of Nepal and perhaps do not focus enough on how bad things really are. So reading that blog really made me sit and think. It was in that mood that I posted.
But thanks for showing the 'other side of the coin.'

Why does the blogger use the word "tragedy"?
No one died right before his eyes.
Don't get me wrong; for I am not mad at him but it's a little unfair. He "should of" done some research on what makes a country Third-World so that he wouldn't have received the surprises. His main goal was to circumvent the Annapurna trail. From the once-in-a-life images he has captured, it seems he would not regret his Himalayan adventure even after he has received his new credit card bill. Instead I bet a lot of people would have loved to be in his trekking boots.
My responses to some of his complaints:
The fact that glaciers are receding is due to the global warming causing industrialization in the one-billion-people-strong India. I am certain, that is a payback for all the human faeces we export to India via our extensive river systems. The trash in the Capital and on the Annapurna trail, weed or sex solicitations are quite embarrasing and we should thank the blogger for raising those credible concerns.
Why doesn't the Nepal Government fire a bunch of card-playing tenured government employees and hire a lot more plain clothed cops to roam the tourist spots to save us from these dollar-repeling nightmares?

Well, this guys went too far. Yes things are not perfect back home, but as a tourist you can enjoy manythings, such as -$1 for 9 inch pizza, $ 100 in staying 5* hotel or yes $ 20 hotel in thamel, massage parlor..i bet he would have enjoyed weed and bang bang too..... well, if you are going to 3rd world nation which has emerged out from decade long civil war, political sitiation is so mercurial you should expect some aberrant situation there.
Are things so perfect for the tourist in NYC-so much crowd bumping into each other, fear of pickpocketing and gun shot, insecure subways, everything is so freaking expensive and so on...but on the otherisde it is NYC!
So, boy could have focused on the posetive things and would have made his stay more enjoyable. Having said that, yes beacuse of our poor managment of law and order stituation and increasing GUNDA GARDHI we are heading to wrong direction, if not the complete collapse!

Truth hurts and I realize that. Most importantly, we knew all these things and didn’t need one Andrew Hyde to tell us that we are in an abyss - all over again. And no I am not angry at you, Mr. Hyde.
The writer is right, and right about lot of things.
For pointing our attention to certain areas of our negligence, I thank the writer and hope the government stooges read it back home to rectify these follies, one step at a time, if not more.
For the other parts of the story, here is my answer –
Yes, we may not be so commercialized and hence do not engage in fake conversation like yelling "hey how you doing! is everything alright?" after a long day at a gas station, for example, for money (when what you actually feel like saying is “I am tired, take the merchandise, pay, and go f**k yourself), our friends and family have still managed to hold their heads high and salvage a sliver of decency in Nepal.
They still give people like Mr. Hyde water, food, shelter and a few free lunches if need be.
Try that here in some homes in the US and you will have been probably shot at by a shot-gun, set the police after you, or mistake you for a mugger. Thank you for your hospitality!
Looking at the extent of adversity our folks faced, I thank guys back home that these Westerners can freely loiter around our countryside with impunity and still expect to come back to their home countries to crib about the experience without the fear of being killed unlike in Afghanistan or Somalia.
If this guy had undergone so much of adversity as some of our most under-privileged citizens, this writer would probably weigh his options to sell his soul to the devil by now.
Keep up the good work ordinary citizens, back home! You are doing an awesome job even if a few passers-by rave and rant about how things are. Yes I know it could be way better than that, though.
But to the maobadis and khaobadis, who only want to amass personal wealth and engage in corruption, that is wrong and rise above the greed to serve your nation well.
And yes, articles like these need to come out, so that they open people’s mind towards what is happening and what needs to be done.
Thank you Mr. Hyde once again for highlighting our flaws and am sure your attempt to bare the basics of how the tourism-cogs-of-wheel work in Nepal will have been noticed at some level.

Do you see the parallels here?

Tourism in Nepal is suffered by awfully unprofessional business practice, ignorant public and careless government.
I don't understand why nepalese people need to rob tourists at every corner? The tourist price is so expensive everywhere, they are forced to pay high in anything they purchase themselves, from a cup of tea to transportation fair, room rent to gift items. They get the same stuff at cheaper price if a nepalese (tour guide / friend / etc.) help them to purchase. By charging elevated tourist rate, no one can get rich overnight, but such unfair practice leaves very bad impression about the country and people.
One my friend returned back from Nepal promising never to visit Nepal again. She was prepared to face dirt and dust, environmental pollution etc. but she was so diappointed by the cheating attitude of Nepalese everywhere. I felt sad after listening many stories from her and tried to console myself, boy Nepal is changed. You won't find the beauty of your Nepal in the current Nepal.
IT HURTS, but that is the TRUTH.

I don't have anything against Nepal but people are our problems starting with myself. He points out our culture(the example of weed and bang bang, cheat tourist or anyone, try the be familiar at first and try to take advantage culture) which will is corrupting our countries existence. Yeah it is quiet saddening about the conservation taxes apart from visa fee which is very deceiving. They should spend their money as they wish not be cheated of. And don't be so proud as he says about hiking. Yes it's all roads and roads without any infrastructure and pollution. Just see how brilliant his views are, just think about one chocolate wrappers to another 10 wrappers . And that is how we are no matter we love our country and this is how they will look at us. The lack of goverment regulations, it has become impossible to control traps which targets tourist and make them feel like they are robbed. I forget about the documentary I watched a long time ago, a tourist paid $100 for a chicken. That 2 times more than a gourmet chicken in Switzerland(dont get me wrong but it's our curry that taste good to us but it stinks to some of them). We are setting wrong trends and way knowingly or unknowingly or out o desperations or lack of education it's time we change them. Just think about what he says that the people had enough. I loved the article and every bit of it. Loved the way he showed us that we are naked and it's the truth and it was bitter.

We are in a pace " how soon we can be rich without hard work". Yes it is the norm of our culture and our brain is rewired. We can not differentiate wrong and right, moral and ethics are be limited in school books. Businessmen are trying to bankrupt National Reserve, Government employee can do side job, numbers of parliaments member jumped to over 600, it is not their permanent job sooner the better theory applies what will the rest population will do? They are in much faster pace because they do not have a link and no lay out of plan. Once they see the opportunity, could not stop and forgot our forefather teaching " treat guest as he or she is from Heven or god". After his return wrote his story which is sad and embarrassing to us so did Rahulbhai, could not await longer for next part. Sad to read but did not surprise me much.
