i see that the ones in sajha community are one of the most intelligent group of people of nepal.. together we are all capable of driving the nation towards the path of rapid development. but i am sure ..every one has his own obligations to fullfil first. so i would consider it to be not very realistic to say that we all should return home at once. but once u have achieved what u wanted out of this place.. would you not want to go home and contribute towards its development. ??
so now..... what this thread is going to do is give us a chance to share our " one (small or a big) thing you would do to uplift the the nation and society together.. for example open up a school for orphan childern, build jhulunge pools so no more people die in twein accident, become a politician or do agriculture scientifically. or any thing you think would help the nation come up...as we start sharing ideas..we will become a massive brain networked together in for good of nepal !!
i hope we contribute now!!
jai nepal!

Are we the lazy generation???
Are social media creating the laziest generation??
We are the reality-show generation. Instead of doing, we watch: We watch people sing, dance with B-level stars, fist pump, pawn stuff, pick a husband/wife, get extreme makeovers to their homes and faces, be "real" housewives, keep up, lose weight, go to rehab, get fired, survive.
And the voyeuristic nature has spilled into everyday life. Thanks to Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube and a host of other social media platforms, all the world's now truly a stage, and we are all players in the reality show of life -- either as the "stars" or as the self-appointed pundits.
Observing events and then commenting about them on social media has become our national religion. We anxiously wait for the next celebrity to screw up, another politician to be caught in a sex scandal, the verdict in an even higher profile murder trial or simply a friend to do something stupid so that we can quickly begin worshipping at the altar of the social media platform of our choice to offer our (or read others') opinions, jokes, jibes and the occasional insightful thought.
In the past, people would recount where they were when an historic event occurred such as the Kennedy assassination, the space shuttle exploding or the 9/11 attacks. In the future, we will instead recall what we tweeted, posted or read on social media platforms about such events.
Yes, it's fun, and I'm guilty of doing the same thing. But here is my growing concern: Are we becoming the laziest generation?
Is social media becoming our opiate of the masses seducing us into being slacktivists, believing that simply because we make a cyber-comment, we are somehow actually affecting our world? Will our generation leave a lasting legacy or just millions of snarky tweets?
Look at the preceeding generations: In the 1940s and '50s, there was the "Greatest Generation," a generation of doers, not watchers, who through their dedication, work ethic and sacrifice, built our nation into an economic superpower.
They were followed in the '60s and early '70s by a generation that took to the streets to oppose the Vietnam War and press for civil rights, causing American policy to change on both the foreign policy and domestic fronts.
In contrast to their activism, many of us are only engaged in slacktivism: clicking "Like" on Facebook, digitally signing an online petition or retweeting someone else's thoughts on Twitter.

The reason I posted above is because tweeting in social media or websties like sajha might help us share ideas but it is not going to make a difference my friend
In one of my other posts, yotabhayananisom bro said...unless you act on the caue you are advocating it is not going to do any good. In many ways it is the bitter truth.
I strongly feel for the victims for that Tuin accident in Trisuli and my heart says that poor kid should get a chance continue his education and pursue his dream of being an engineer. That is like lighting a candle. That candle will someday light several other candles.
I have seen many other sajha users mentioning that in other posts. Our heart is in the right place my friends. I think it is time to act now saathi haru. I am not rich but i can certainly contribute a little towards that cause.
People in the past have succesfully created websites for very good causes. I would be very glad if some of those friends come together for this cause as well and help collect money for the cause
I would not send money to that bank account created by that triparty leaders though. Jhagada garera aafai badera khanchhan tini haru le
Hami jasta gule haru le nagare kasle garchha aba nepal ma....Palo naya pidhi kai ho saathi ho. Jaagne bhaye Jaagam saathi ho ....50 dollars samma ta ma pani haldinchhu tyo cause ko laagi.

One thing I can see us contributing is refining the work culture. If you are US trained then one thing you have is that you have a good work ethic; be it in gas station or big engineering firm. We can take this home and instill a new culture where we are more geared towards work than nepotism, chaplusi, leg-pulling etc etc.

junky funky..
i dont disagree with you..about your skepticism..but this is surely the the easiest way to share our ideas...geographical boundaries cannoth not be the hindrance in sharing of knowledge...isnt it the very core function of internet....so for now...lets forget about this being a successful movement or anything like that......lets just share that tiny-bity thing that u hide somewhere inside your heart..that u think u would do personally to help uplift the life of you fellow countrymen..doesnt have to be a huge .. but just anything ur good heart tells you.. and i sure do appreciate your ideas on the second post....great ideas indeed!!
stiffler,
yup its one of those things that need some denting in nepali society..work ethics is devastatingly lacking.. also add customer care is worse specially in the places that one needs it. like banks, public offices..restaurants..and all.. appreciate your idea..so instilling work ethics and train people on customer service delivery is what we all can do from our side..thats great to hear!

i dont come from an agricultural background but i have been thinking about helping farmers make maximum out of their efforts because majority of our country is engaged in farming and these are hard working people..now what i would do is research about what else can be farmed in climate like ours that has high demand in the international market..i dont know anything as of yet..but lets say "yarchagumba". i would go to the village farming people give them tools and knowledge about farming and harvesting these valauables and buy it from them in bulk at their own price and sell them in the international market..doing so im not doing charity..nepali people dont need charity.. because nepali people are not incapable of working..they just need work..so what im thinking is doing some job generating work..basically what im saying is nepal need enterprenuers..so next thinng i would do is lets say go to gorkha...teach them about growing oranges more efficiently buy all their oranges at thier price ..set up an orange juice factory in gorkha..let local people work there..sell the finished orange juice in domestic or international market...other day i read a news from somewhere in terai, that a nepali guy when in his europe tour..l came to know about ostrich farming..which has high demand in international market..he came back home researched about the possibilities and has jumped into it..that is what we need..enterpreneurs..
so these are just few things i just came up with..the whole point of laying it out here is just sharing..maybe i will or wont do these things..but someone who has more knowledge about what does great in thier local climate might come up with just another great idea..and i think ideas when shared expands exponentially.........we all should contribute in generating jobs so that basic necessities(gaas baas kabas) of the mojority of people are met with ease... only when your basics are met people start thinking about other improvements in thier life...then comes realization of the need of education, knowledge, lifestyle and so on..then people will pull themselves up by their own bootstrap...our people dont need sympathy or aid dollars....they need work!
lets keep sharing ideas friends!!!

@all: talking about the twien accident in Trishuli, I feel so sad for all the youth groups and organizations formed in Nepal. A group called Nepali Unites can gather 1000s of people in Bagmati bridge for a pro constitution demonstration. How many people that attended the rally were civil engineers or overseers? I guess at least 5 of them. Why can't an organization like thAt motivate youths to act rather than demonstrations? They should take a group of engineers and overseers to check the status of tweins and do some sort of maintenanence. It is not possible to build bridges to replace tweins. It is costly. In my opinion, regular maintainance of tweins stamping it by saying it will last for 6months will help save lives. I am willing to donate for this cause if somebody is going to lead this group.

I will lead the group if that is all it takes from sharing in sajha to doing some creative work that makes the difference.. Like minded people like us should come together. Lets make this an example of how people from virtual world like sajha and facebook come together to make some difference in real world...We do not have to be rich and making 70 K a year. We do not have to intellectually a ivy graduate. We might be a bunch of fools, a bunch of nerds, a bunch of IT guys, a bunch of biologists, a bunch of accountants, a bunch of gules that work in gas station, a bunch of students trying to make ends meet, a bunch of green card holders.
BUT WE WILL MAKE IT HAPPEN PEOPLE...if nothing else you can just help spread the word.
How amazing would that headlines be when it comes in newspaper like this.
" Orphan child pays tribute to his dead father by replacing the bridge he fell from"
Who is in???? Who is with me....Please come forward if you want to be part of a team.

no offence.... catch me if u can bro...ur ideas are great...but how do you plan to execute them......Even Nepal's government makes 5 year and 10 year development goals but 80 percent of budget is based on remittance and foreign donations. and of course when those donations makes its way down from minister to sachib and his aaure paaures.. CDO, VDC executives, the poor people at the receving level barely get any. Execution my friend is the key, be it even a simple small project.

BItter truth ...Not every body can be Dr Sanduk Ruit...Dont get me a wrong....He is a great man...when you are intertangled in your daily life to make ends meet, to raise a family, to finish studies, to pay bills...it is not practical for everybody to be Dr Sanduk Ruit...
But if we take little Sanduk Ruit inside every heart and work for a common cause ...wont that be great.
We need a bunch of doers not a bunch of talkers. Isnt that what you said
I have been a silent visitor of sajha and one thing furke said me kind of hit my head
" If we are not part of the solution, we are part of the problem" Its that simple.

junky bro..
what we are going to do will have not much to do with the government.. we are going to do it from our private funds..or bank loan or something.. but be clear, we are not donating any money for any cause..charity in not bad..just like the proverb goes-Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man how to fish and he will eat for a lifetime. we have to focus on generating jobs instead of doing charity.. and execution depends on your field of expertise.

Yes, we show our mentality every where as we carry. We laugh first on the youtube " vidio chaallu hai " , and someone write a joke about prwon where the thread creater is seeking help if he can get enough vote , so he may get a free moeny provided by GRABER, is that a crime in your eye or just jeleous well before the announcement of the winner. . But instead of helping , sitting behind the computer we acting why we should not vote and exactly the same mentality people behind the table in government office. Have we changed as the time had ? Not at all.
Chankya: Street smart comes from the family , neighbour he or she is growing. Many of us are abroad because most of our parents had done something unusual that is the reason we have land and banglaw in Kathmandu , cash in bank and children in good privet school , in compare to others. If teaching makes people perfect, we all should not fighting rather than disagree.
Teaching does not give you wisdom but helps towards it.
My two cents thought.

People are never going to stop trying to be the savior of the failed state. Every self appointed son of the motherland feels the necessity to get something done for their destitute motherland. Every party I go to, there are always a bunch of people talking about doing something for Nepal. Granted it's a good way to get conversation going because Nepal's the only common thing among everyone there, but how many times are you going to give the same speech about doing something, till you realize that too much is too much?
How many people you know are working illegaly in the US? What percentage of people have actually returned to Nepal let alone do something for the country? It's less than 0001% and what contribution can they make when the political stability is inexistent?
Those of you who want to feel good about yourself by talking big need to understand that you are full of it until we see a one way ticket booked for Nepal.

realitycheck,
its very easy to raise questions and be skeptic about anything!!!..my purspose of propagating this this thread is nor to feel good or talk big..who knows me and others in this thread personally in sajha anyway?? the only intention was to seek some like minded people..all of us have to remember that we are not different from the ones migrating to arab countries in any form. everyone is trying to make their ends meet. all of our needs were more than our country could help us acheieve in globalized or local context....be it education, finance, or any other opportunity. we moved to greener pastures...and in the process we have learnt a lot and seen and experienced what the difference is and what needs to be done. recently i read a news somewhere that few nepalis who had been working in some arab country learned to farm tomatoes in a very efficient way..they learnt a new way of doing tomato farming where they could reap 5 times more tomatoes from a plant than in traditional nepali way....they came back ..leased a land and they are now doing it..and have employed some people... i am talking about these small things... many of us would have lauged at our friends if they said they would do some farming in a village. but not now..our perceptions has changed..at least i can say that about myself confidently..
it does not matter how many people have returned to nepal..its important not to be the part of the statistics..its important not to follow what other might have done..when u think its wrong....u have every right to choose where u want to live in this globalised world..but meanwhile do something substantial to improve the lives of other human beings..think about how many people go hungry for days in this world?? dont u wish you could do something about the misery these people are facing???..and what better place would it be than to help your own people. its not your fault that u were born in an ecomomic category which could afford to provide you good education, food and all other necessities and on top of that send you here..but it sure should be in your heart, a will to do something for your fellow brothers and sisters and you categorize the expression of that feeling as big talk ??? im not advocating that all of us should return at once..im not actually advocating any thing for that matter..just letting the feelings take shape of words and share what intresting ideas all of us have.
no offence!!!!!

MaGorkhe1: agree with u, but my background is like very dark province of modern Nepal, still my village does not have batti, age and the step to upcome is like to come in modernization as yr reference to Ktm ko bhidbhad ma, though I own posh life, the root to all is discipline, can't change everybody but systematic approach is successful, gyan badau ra Liu haath failaayera, kasaiko kehi bigrinna
