Just wanted to rant something in Sunday afternoon. I read few articles here on sajha about culture of modesty and culturally vogue. Now comes the culture of unaccountability. I have this American friend who had lived in Nepal for many years and once I asked him, what is the one striking thing about Nepalese culture that you have noticed. His answer was "Culture of Unaccountability". It hit my head.
Recently,y I heard the news about Buddha airlines crash and I feel really bad as so many people have lost their lives including Nepalese and foreigners. This once more reiterates the fact of low standards along with navigational equipment and lack of maintenance that has been prevalent in the industry. I am sure that this news will be played for few days and slowly fade away from memory. And in near future another accident will happen and the cycle will continue. Another one thing that broke my heart was, in news I read that one of the survivor from the crash could have been saved had the local people were not busy going through the wreckage instead of rushing him to help. I guess morals of people have really hit new low standards. Police reached the scene and didn't know what to do and decided to wait for ambulance for quite sometime, Surely, Police were not the right people to respond to such accidents. I am sure I will get over this news in few days, there was no one from my family. So I guess should not bother me much, like rest of the Nepalese people. People in the domestic airline industry will keep doing business without any kind of major regulations reform.
Another news that is popping up in my mind when it comes to our "Culture of Unaccountability" is the ktm bike accident of the so called ninja guy who crashes the traffic woman and runs away. I couldnot say who was more stupid, the "biker guy" or the "Traffic women". Just cannot Imagine such things happening here In USA. But then you cannot compare the two countries. Traffic are known for harassing people with dashain kharcha and stuff and these rowdy boys are used to getting off with few phone calls and few hundred bucks. Atleast that was the case when I was a teen. The rates may have changed.
Then again I remember the women whose younger brother being killed by the Maoists during the insurgency. And for lodging a complaint against that killing, her elder brother was also murdered four years later. The elder brother´s daughter had ironically led the assailants to her father and the guilt-ridden girl committed suicide four years ago. I read it on myrepublica few days earlier.

Police never registered a court case against the murder of elder brother Ganesh Kumar Shrestha and Ramechhap police refused to give the complaint document filed back then by another elder brother, Raj Kumar, according to Sabitri. Her elder brother was accused of helping the police arrest them for cow-slaughter and arson. They had threatened to kill Ujjan like a sacrificial lamb amidst the villagers and finally one day was shot and body thrown at river. And when other brother lodged the complained, he again shared the same fate. If you just read through the whole story, it is pretty clear a murderer continuing as a CA member even after being convicted by the apex court.
There has always been "Culture of Unaccountability" entrenched in our Nepali roots but there is no other place where it is deeply rooted than the current political system. Political leader feel they don't have to answer back to whatever their sub ordinates do. I guess it has always been that way.
Ya, finally Vasudev is a real person with real aspiration and goals in life. In fact he is representation of thousands of Nepalese diaspora around the world. He believes nothing will change in his life time in Nepal and is happy to be living in silicon valley. He doesn't write for fun but it is actually outpouring of thoughts that he is unable to hide.
