5 years ago, I moved to US because my mother won DV lottery. The move to US has been very hard on me and my family. We are still very lost. I started college after 6 months and now I am going to graduate. The problem now is I dont know how to look for a job. My parents work manual jobs so they wont be able to help me in this. Other than the career center in school, how else can I look for a job? Please advice. My major is business with accountanting concentration. I would also like know how can I adapt to the work culture here. I did an internship but I felt so lost, I ended up quitting. Oustide school, I have only worked as cashier and tutor.

I am also on the hunt for a job. But for now, I am just looking into temporary work. Google temp agenices, a list will come up but just to let you know, not all are legit.

How to adapt to the work culture here?
Carry yourself with confidence. Do not talk yourself down. And sometimes even if you dont know something, talk like you know it. The is the skill that the Whites have mastered and look how successful most of them are.

Wish you all the best!

Since you do not have a deadline to secure a job unlike students on a visa, try looking for 'entry level jobs' in accounting in indeed.com or similar websites.

However I am concerned why did you end up quitting your internship? Was that related to your major? Also, since you have been here for last five years (and assuming you already have honed your communication skills) you need not worry about adapting to work culture. Find a job and put your best effort, that culture works not only here but everywhere else.

you have a business/accounting degree and you are saying "what should i do?" go start making money girl! you have qualification, no all you need is confidence, that's all. quitting an internship in the middle was not a right decision. internships are huge, they polish you and make you shinier than other competitors. you've been in the states for about 5 years, i bet you feel comfortable communicating in english. if you don't get rid of your overconsciousness about your accent/pronunciation because all that matters is making your audience understand what you are saying. but, since you'll be in professional field, you need to train yourself to be a better speaker. you'll be able to do it. start with something small like others have said so that you don't quit and run away again and you'll progress step by step; just don't underestimate yourself.

Also, the fact that you found yourself "lost" at the internship, and that you seem to be having a hard time adjusting to the way of life in the US, you may want to Google "Cross Cultural Adaptation." In addition to direct materials on the subject that you may wish to dig into, you may also find some agencies in yoru area that offer seminars and workshops on the same.

Aside all the snarkiness, the best place to land a career is though  job fair in your college. What college do you go to? PM me, if you have more questions.

Jina first thing you need to do is work on your resume and make it attractive. Good resume will help you to get short listed from other resumes. If you don't have much to include on your resume, include the company where you had done internship as your recent job. Do some research on any company inside US and keep that in your resume. You should alteast able to tell something about that company and your responsibility. Mostly interviewer ask questions relating to your recent job so you should be good. If he asks for reference from the second company you can give the contact number of any of your friend with good english. And let him know about your job descriptions mentioned in your resume your position and the company name and ask him to talk like your manager in that postion. Mostly everyone, especially who is a beginner need to lie to some extent when they are going to start any job because even if you apply for entry level position they look for an experienced guy. There are several sites that helps to make resume.

The next step is to upload your resume in sites like www.dice.com, www.monster.com, www.careerbuilder.com by creating your account. Once you upload your resume, companies will look your resume and call you or email you. Next you should aslo apply the jobs mentioned in above sites beside uploading your resume. There is one more site which I prefer and that is www.craiglist.com. Go to Jobs section and click on Accounting+finance and email your resumes to several positions along with your cover letter in the email content.

You should at anytime be able to answer anything asked from within your resume, be confident on what you say even if you have any confusion.

Good Luck....
