http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Name_Is_Khan
Khan is more bold than any Nepalese would dare to be. He is not ashamed of his religion. He had no problem doing Nawaz in front of red neck Americans, after 9/11. Nepalese shake in their boots in front of White Americans. How many Nepalese could show their pride in their religion like Khan could? Why do we change so much to be accepted by these gores? What do these gores have that we don't? Money? Power? And for their money and power, if they are ashamed of our lifestyle or religion, we will keep changing it? Is that it? Are those the rules of the game? Is that what we need to do to keep fitting in? Is that what we need to do to get our daal-bhat on our dining table?
Admitted, that this was a movie. A damn good movie. But, outside of the movie set, there are plenty of Muslims that show the level of pride that Khan shows in America. They are fearless, even in light of September 11. And us Nepali Hindus? Without having something like September 11 over our head, hanging like a dark cloud, we shake in our boots. Why are we so scared?
What is the worst thing that could happen to us in America?

I agree with you babalkhate. Most of us are confused about our religion, culture and tradition. And, we dont know what we have and we will never understand it. For some of us, its cool to deny where we come from and what we embrace.
Look at this dumb head "K_ho_mero_naam". " if ur gonna look for a rat in sumone else' trust me u will find a fawking bhaisi in urs own..". No body is talking about finding a rat . We are just saying we need to be our selves and not forget your culture, our roots.
I used to hate indians but they are far better in conserving their culture and be them selves.

BUSEFAWKINGNITZ.... GET UR FACTS CORRECT.. CULTURE DOESN'T EQUAL TO SO-FAWKING-CALLED-RELIGION UR PROUD OF..,.. CULTURE HAS ITS OWN SPACE.. EVERYONE LOVES THEIR OWN AND EACH OTHERS.. IT'S THE RELIGION.. THAT EVERY ONE LOVES TO HATE OTHERS..
CULTURE - MAN/WOMAN MADE....
RELIGION - UR BORN WITH..
DON'T YOU FAWKING MIX CULTURE WITH RELGION.. U %$&*HEAD
ONCE AGAIN.. CULTURE = GOOD (TEACHES U TO LOVE OTHER)
RELIGION = BAAD (MAKES YOU HATE EVERY OTHER PERSON)

khate bro, kuro ta lyaaeu timle, tara yo muslim ra hindu ko kuro chahi kina bhane ni? one thing that i'm pretty sure about is muslims value their religion much more than we hindus do. if their religion commands, they give their best to make fulfill it. but we hindus are more laid back. saying that, how can you say that hindus or, in more general term we Nepalis "shake in our boots" or become scared when dealing/practising our culture in front of white people? if you are scared, that's your problem, you can't generalize it to everyone.
i eat daal bhaat everyday in front of my white roommates, WITH MY HANDS. when they saw it the first time and asked what i was doing; i said that i'm eating my food with my hands and that's what i've been doing my entire life. i listen to all kinds of nepali/hindi music in my room and the volume is always up (i.e. they can hear and are curious about it), i proudly say that i am a Hindu and i don't eat beef like you guys do because we worship cows, i admit without hesitation (when the topic pops up) that our society has caste system and arrange marriage still prevails. i go to nearby temple whenever possible, i go to all major festivals/events like - dashain, tihar, and holi and even take my roommates with me when they can.
now, you tell me man - how am i a coward? if you don't have balls to walk in front of whites being yourself - that's your problem. do not generalize it. i have seen the muslims, and indians too - how they practise their culture and religion. but i don't give a damn about that. stop comparing Nepali people to others; they are better in their own way; we in ours.

Jantarei bro,
I bow down to your courage to do all the things that you have mentioned. I wish all of our Nepali brothers and sisters had the confidence that you have. Thank you for being a great example for all of us Nepalese to look up to.

Just some guy named X Y and Z came few thousand years ago and told us to do few things they saw in dream does not mean we need to follow them. Not religion and faith but humility is needed in this century. If you do something which other people don't enjoy do it in private. This world is not a place for some fanatic but sane people. In this century we don't need story of some boogie man to make our moral upright ........

Age ko kura pani hola sayed, I am 30 plus so it is not an age for me to go thru identity crisis.

don't know why people hate Usa so much.. the land which has given them freedom .. they would do anything for greencard but there is so much hate here.. no wonder americans don't like immigrants cause they are just like you guys.. By the way if it was not for their vison we would not have a place like america where ther is hope for everyone.. where dreams can still come true.. where there is freedom to choose .. freedom of speech freedom of religion..but still you hate americans and america.. you rather take pride on people who would kill you right on the spot for being who you are... forget about 9 11 how about this news for you
Twelve Nepalese workers kidnapped by Islamist extremists were murdered on video yesterday in the biggest mass killing of hostages in Iraq since Saddam Hussein was toppled.
The men, who had been kidnapped three weeks earlier as they drove into the country from Jordan, were said to have been murdered by the obscure Ansar al-Sunna Army, a fundamentalist group that claimed responsibility last year for suicide bombings in the Kurdish city of Irbil that killed 109.
The labourers claimed on the video that they had been duped by unscrupulous brokers back home into working in Iraq, believing their destination was Jordan.
The killing doubled the number of hostages murdered in Iraq. It was particularly disturbing because of its extremely brutal manner, the peripheral role of poor Nepalese workers in Iraq and the fact that there were no negotiations or demands beforehand.
aren't you glad you don't have to worry about something like this here.. ...(proud to be an American..)

To fit in or stand out, that is the question. The rule-of-thumb I follow is stand out whenever you can and fit in when you must. I apply this to most situations in life - whether in Nepal or in America.
"Why are we so scared? What is the worst thing that could happen to us in America?"
We are scared because we are sissies at heart. We are scared of the alternatives to a life in America or Europe. Deep down we are afraid of loosing the comfort of our jobs and lifestyles in America and packing our bags for the dusty life in Nepal. We pee in our pants at the thought of not finding a technical job in Nepal in an office with a coffee machine, a fat salary and an American management culture. We are weaklings who cant handle even the mildest form of aggression in Nepal's top down culture but we will kneel and pray before the explicit and implicit social and cultural aggression of foreigners in the countries we currently live in. We are scared of power-cuts and other inconveniences in Nepal. We are scared of the dust and chaotic traffic. It is this fear that has us enslaved to America (or whatever host country we are living in) forcing us to do the most ridiculous things to fit in.
In the end, immigration doth make cowards of us all.

Mazzarella,
You see everyone who has not surrendered to Jesus Christ as a threat and your enemy. You see everyone who doesn't surrender to Jesus Christ as a hater of America.
Tell me, you are an American right? So why don't you also cite the example of all the good Muslims in America and around the world?
Why don't you cite the example of people like Congressman Keith Ellison?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keith_Ellison
Wouldn't it be good if in the next 20 years we had a Nepali Congressman who looked out for Nepali communities interest the way Keith Ellison is looking out for the Muslim Communities interest in America?
But then again, for a Christian like you, I'm sure someone like Congressman Keith Ellison must be a big big threat. He must hate America too, no?

i could care less if you surrender to Christ or not... Christianity is not like Hinduism its not about rituals my dear friend.. noone can covert a person to be a christain unless he fully believes in Jesus its about the relationship with him.. its about loving God with all your heart and soul and mind.. now noone can force you to love someone .. just like noone can force you hate someone.. the problem here with you guys is you don't know what we exactly believe and you are too quick to judge... its you guys who see us christains as being threat... and i don't hate Muslims i honestly believe they are the most God fearing people in the whole world.. and there will always be people who twist and turn their religion for their own benefits..Its more about the matter of ethic ... I have a right to say that i don't believe gay marriage or abortion or killing people in the name of god.. i have a right to say i believe in christ who loved us so much that He died for our sins.. I have a right to tell people that my God says that we are all created in his image and we are all his children and He loves us all not matter how much we hate him .. we hate him to the point to crucify him..but yet He loves..i have a right to say that He dose not care your rich your poor your high cast ur low cast we are all same in his eyes...I just can't understand why people hate Jesus so much... what has He done so wrong that you hate Him and people who believe in him... is it because we believe in dignity of human life .. we speak for the unborn... is it because we believe that marriage should be between a man and a women.. what is it..By the way even muslims have some respect for Christ they believe that he was a prophet and they adore virgin Mary ...nomatter your muslim or hindu i think when you take a oath to protect a constitution of America you should mean it...one should not be a liar ..what people say dose not really matter its the law that matter and its only in america law allows you to be what ever you want to be ..and i don't hate anyone i have a right to say what i think..that's all..

mazzarella,
I feel pity and sorry for your innocence. Your saying me, ppl dont like America because its a land of freedom and every body is jealous of it. I agree America is land of freedom and i do respect your forefathers who helped to build this country unlike our forefathers who were busy raising cattles and working on farms in a poor, third world country in South Asia called "Nepal". We are not jealous of you and we dont envy on your great country. But let me tell you some things about your country. You know why Al-Qeada attacked your country? Who gave birth to Al-Qeada? How would you feel if North Koreans or Chinese soldiers come to you home town and start bombing? You cannot point to terrorist to justify anything. Terrorist are terrorist because they create terror. They kill their own people forget about other people.
Last but not the least, In sajha lot of poor students from very undeveloped part of globe roams around so i would advise to find a discussion forum where ppl like you hang out. We are also proud of who we are even though we are poor.

there is no shame in being poor .. poverty is a state of mind... people are poor here too... they might have more help from government here .. thats about it..even Jesus was born in a manger and He says its blessed to be poor.. because it is easier for a poor person to go to heaven then a rich one.and i absolutely agree with you that terrorist are terrorist. The only problem ihave here is the haterate you have for Christians some how you think we are all here to destroy you and your culture i just don't understand... We are a Christians are obliged to tell people about what Jesus did for us so that every ear shall hear.. its ur choice if you wanna believe it or not.. i mean we are not going to kill you for not converting... that is stupid... why hate Christians so much .. and yes i know in sajha there are lot of poor student from nepal that includes me as we..and by the way majority of Americans believe in God... you should always take pride on who you are but America needs immigrants who takes pride in America as well.. America has always given a Hope to hopeless just like you and i .. so we should have some kind of gratitude towards this country that has excepted us for who we are...Christians are there to help you support you no matter what.. the only thing we do wrong is we tell people that there is a living God who hears our cry who loves us and who will help us..

Mazzarella,
You sound whiny and defensive. Don't be. Be proud that you're a Christian. And respect other people who don't want to be Christian.
What is the difficulty in doing that?

That's why i say religion is root of most of the killing .................. and monotheism is just tops the list............. islam they cant speak about lots of things wow............. it is not a religion of peace.........it could be but it's not now.........they have so much hate........
People hate america because they can hate america.......... nobody gives chace to hate america to foreigners like america does... which is an abuse of freedom.......... Once you get religion out of ur head u are free.....

Actually Allece, I suggest you do your homework. Go find out how much Christian Missionaries have done for Bhutanese/Nepali Refugees all over the world, including, perhaps, even in your own town, before you start laughing.
