Sajhamitra ji,
I don't know about you and for me english is not my first language. 'Cuisine' the word that guy used is not commonly used. I am sure if you had not gone to English medium school, that word probably made you wonder too. That guy genuinely asked what did it mean to the anchor. And that is right thing to do rather than thinking what it means and answering completely wrong. And what the guy did. He laughed. He laughed and laughed making the guy he is interviewing nervous to answer it. I would rather be embarrased guy to have asked what I did not know than to be that imbecile, impolite and ignorant guy who thinks everyone should know english as language. It takes courage to ask, at least he had one.

Bill O'relley wanted to show what could come out from these meetings when no-one can understand simple english. What is the basic/minimum qualification to be a diplomat or to attend diplomat's meeting without having a translater? We give examples of other non-english speaking big countries; but they have translators. Instead of having all these useless people on the board, wouldn't it be wiser to pay for one translator for non-english speaking good diplomat/leader? But, no! we need to have our bootlickers on the team. Not only that guy missed the meaning of word 'cuisine', he couldn't speak a single word besides 'rice'. How can you have a people like him in diplomatic team who can't understand the basic words like 'romance'. What would the nation get from expending so much money on his trip? I won't defend him at all. My english is also not that good, but that guy is far below average to attend such a high-level international meeting.

Sure the dude could've answered it better but the interviewer was a douche bag for laughing at him. If I were the interviewee (Nepali diplomat), I would start talking in Nepali and when the interviewer is dumbfounded, I'd lough out loud at him. Going to UN doesn't require you need to speak english fluently. I am not defending our diplomat's inadequacy but rather questioning the reason behind this snobbish interview session.

Exactly Kiddo. Look at that Romanian lady at 02:30, she didn't understand what that guy was asking and asked "You have to translate". That is the right thing to do because she did not understand his accent or whatever he was saying. Also she did not require to give answer in English. Sure that guy was trying to humiliate these foreign people because it's his job but you have to defend yourself otherwise what is difference between him and an average nepali person who doesn't speak English?

प्रथमत सुदर्शन सुबेदी भन्ने व्यक्ति नेपाल सरकारको आधिकारिक टोलीका सदस्य हैनन्. . त्यसैले कुटनैतिक व्यक्ति भन्न मिलेन. सम्भवत त ( उनको फोटोको आधारमा खोजीनीति गर्दा) उनी Federation of the Disabled Nepal भन्ने संस्थाको रहेछ . अंग्रेजी पनि संस्था जस्तै disabled रहेछ, आश्चर्य को कुरा रहेन.
भ्रमण टोलीका सदस्यहरु
Shanta Regmi, Personal Secretary Prakash Regmi and Chief of Protocol Kali Prasad Pokhrel. Foreign Secretary Arjun Bahadur Thapa, Ambassador/ Permanent Representative of Nepal to the UN Durga Prasad Bhattarai and Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office Uddhav Prasad Baskota.

Sajhamitra, how do you defend yourself when the jerk starts laughing at you? Yes, Subedi ji could've done something better, but you can't fault him for this incidence. Besides Rahulvai pointed out he was not in the official diplomatic team. I heard spouse and family of the diplomats traveled on their own expense this time. In my book that's commendable.

उनि Federation of the Disabled Nepal भन्ने संस्थाका रहेछन, खेर तर तपाइंले वोंहाको अंग्रेजी पनि " Disable" रहेछ भन्दा, कतै शाररिक रुपले असक्च्याम रहेकाको अलि मन बिज्ने हो कि ?. शब्द चयन र त्येसको वाक्यमा प्रयोग अलि अनुचित लाग्यो.

Everybody has opinions. If the guy from Bhutan can answer and remain calm in a situation, it tells you where we are these days. Come on, Cuisine? It that such a difficult and "rarely" used word?
Regardless on how the interviewer comes off, you can either say "no" to the interview or be ready to take it and handle with confidence, joke or serious.
I don't think it is healthy to defend our people for everything. Clearly, this guy was lost and confused. He should have stuck with Nepali translater or simply said "No"

त्येसो होइन तीतोसत्य! परिपक्यो कुरा गर्नेले अपरिपक्वो शब्द नसुहाएको कुरा मात्र गरेको हो. र अर्को कुरा शाररिक रुपमा असक्च्याम मेरा केहि नजिकका मित्र हुनुहुन्छ. सायद तपाइँले यो कुरा बुज्न अलि गारो पर्ला.

Go ask the same question to Angela Merkel or Putin and see if they reply to you fluently. Are you now going to say Russia and Germany lag behind Bhutan? Give the guy a break.

Kiddo Those people never speak english and never without an interpreter. They don't pretend to know few words, that is the difference esp to a guy who is poking fun at you. I have no problem with him walkin away. But he chosed to answer few words which all made him stupid. I understand English is not necessary but why speak broken english to a level that makes a mockery of our standard, that's what I have problem with. It is just my opinion, maybe not yours.

Look at his face when he asked about romance and fun with ladies. I am not sure if that nepali guy was thinking that gorey was a pimp or just felt uncomfortable with the words romance or ladies.

There is no need o go "gung ho" on the importance of English Language. Now, i am not saying English language is not important but it is not mandatory to know the english language. All languages are equally important and equally not important at the same time.
So i do not see not knowing english as his weakness. This Torpe's weakness is to not know how weak his english was and yet stand there and accept the interview in English. He should have been trained to accept interviews with an intrepreter only given how fked up his english was. Tori...[Disallowed String for - use not allowed] haru....Regmi ko source force ma america chirya thiyo hola.....TV agaadi aayepachi aafulai thulai manche bhanthanyo hola.....

I was so excited to watch him on fox news yesterday because I saw "Nepali dhaka topi" at the beginning of program. He could have walked away without facing camera. He loved to see on television but is "rice" only our food? He could have said "dal, bhat, achar, roti, gundruk etc". Mr. Subedi's reply was historical that Bill O' Reilly wants to visit Nepal.

Let's not make a big deal about the guy not knowing English. Just because someone does not know how to speak in English does not mean that he is illiterate or stupid. "Cuisine" is a French word and it is pronounced "Quisine" not "Kusine" just like what the white guy said. So even he did not know not to pronounce the word properly.
But the body language of the nepali guy was very lousy. He looked completely lost.
