Ganesh Thapa has been heading the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) since 1994 and it’s about time he stepped down and let others lead ANFA to greater heights. No man or woman should be allowed to lead any public organisation for more than a decade. If you can’t bring any changes in 10 years then it would be foolish for all of us to expect you to do any better.

Let’s learn a thing or two from Communist China. The dumpling gang change their leadership every decade. The old ones retire and spend their days swimming, drinking tea and practicing calligraphy. But that’s not the case across the border where our desi dosa wallahs cling on to power until their last breath. I think our netas and public officials follow the ‘desi’ formula and are working together to make our lives miserable.

A few of our ‘A’ Division football clubs have boycotted ANFA meetings because Thapa and his crew have been using ANFA funds to get rich while doling out peanuts to the clubs. Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC) won the league last year and they have not received the full cash prize of Rs 7.5 million yet. Maybe Thapa and his lads want to pay the league winners in installments that will go on for another decade.

ANFA receives hundreds of thousands of dollars from FIFA to develop football in Nepal but most of the funds go to pay off district presidents and other members who have voting rights. No wonder then that Thapa has two-thirds majority in the executive committee and he knows very well that no one can kick him out unless those who have received gift hampers suddenly develop a sense of morality and do the right thing.

Thapa is also good at keeping close ties with our politicians. A few weeks ago, one of our footballers received an apartment and our Emperor was there to hand over the gift. Both Thapa and our Emperor have three things in common: One, they both have been heading their respective organisation for more than two decades. They both act like they have the divine right to do so. And the most important stuff is of course the moolah. The Emperor controls all the funds and so does Thapa, and they both use it to win over other comrades to help them stay on top.

Anil Gurung received a car thanks to Ncell. I hope ANFA will be kind enough to give him a free monthly voucher that will allow him to fill up 20 litres of petrol at least. Our ANFA officials don’t have to worry about paying their bills but our footballers and clubs are struggling with financial problems.

It’s not that we don’t have good footballers in the country. Bimal Bhai is doing great in his trial with a European club, and some of our other footballers are playing in professional leagues in Asia. But here at home, the lazy bums at ANFA fail to run the league consistently. One year, they do it and the next year, they scrap it and make it tough for our football clubs to survive.

Thapa’s son received US$100,000 a few years ago from a Qatari who had high hopes of becoming the FIFA head someday. Thapa claimed that it was a personal loan deal and it has already been cleared. If Thapa had brains instead of only

brawn then he would have asked the Qatari to provide millions to develop football in this country. Maybe the Qataris would have even built us a few football stadiums and we would be more than happy to have ‘Qatar Foundation’ plastered all over the premises.

The cricketers boycotted the national tournament and our Cricket Association wallahs were forced to sit down to work towards resolving the crisis. Maybe our football clubs should all boycott ANFA and without any football clubs in the country, ANFA can then organise maybe a two-a-side football tournament and have their own officials play the game.

Ganesh Thapa shows no signs of quitting and instead, he challenges those not happy with his dictatorship to throw him out. He believes that ANFA is the most transparent organisation in the country. Maybe, our football clubs should demand all the hisab kitab and how much dough he has spent so far making other district presidents and voting members happy. After all, in this land of ours, you need the money and the muscles as well to win elections, be it national politics or in any other organisations.

Thapa is a former national team captain and he knows very well how hard it is to survive playing football in this country. But Thapa and his crew are enjoying the high life while our football players play for the love of the game and barely make enough to live a decent life. We may not play in the World Cup anytime soon but we should be winning most of our matches against our South Asian rivals at the very least. Thapa’s two decades of dictatorship must come to an end but we need someone who will do his or her best to develop football instead of just having ANFA officials and their kids looting the funds.

काठमाडौं– सशस्त्र प्रहरी बलको एपिएफ क्लबका प्रशिक्षक कृष्ण थापाले आफ्नो क्लबविरुद्ध अखिल नेपाल फुटबल संघ (एन्फा) ले नियोजित षडयन्त्र गरेको आरोप लगाएका छन्।

मंगलबार एन्फा मुख्यालयको मैदानमा रुस्लान थ्री स्टार क्लबसँग पराजित भएपछिको पत्रकार सम्मेलनमा बोल्दै थापाले एन्फाविरुद्ध आक्रोश पोखे। 'करिब ५ महिनापछि हिजोबाट लिग सुरु भएको छ। एन्फाले हामीविरुद्ध षडयन्त्र नगरेको भए हामी लिग रोकिएको यो अवधिभर शीर्ष स्थानमा रहन्थ्यौं। एन्फाले हामीलाई शीर्ष स्थानमा रहन नदिनकै लागि भुइँचालो गएको दिन वैशाख १२ मा पनि लिगको खेल गरायो,' झापा र मोरङबीच वैशाख १२ मा भएको खेल मिलेमतो भएको आरोप लगाउँदै थापाले भने, 'प्रष्टै छ, त्यो खेल अन्डरस्ट्यान्डिङमा भएको थियो। मोरङको प्रतियोगितामा उपाधि आशा थिएन। दुवै पूर्वाञ्चलका टिम हुन्, बुझ्नुस त्यो पूरा अन्डरस्ट्यान्डिङमा भएको खेल हो। हामीलाई शीर्ष स्थानबाट हटाउन त्यस्तो गरिएको हो।'

थापाले बुधबार जगदम्बा लुम्बिनी र सुदूरपश्चिमबीच पनि मिलेमतोमा खेल हुने दाबी गर्दै थापाले भने, 'हामीविरुद्ध धेरै षडयन्त्र भएका छन्। हामीलाई लगातार थ्री स्टार, मनाङ मर्स्याङ्दी, पुलिस जस्ता बलिया टोलीसँग पार्ने र झापालाई चाहिँ कमजोर टिमसँग पारिएको छ। टाइसिट बनाउने बेलादेखि नै षडयन्त्र भएको छ।'

युवा टोलीले घरेलु मैदानमा यु–१९ साफ च्याम्पियनसिप जितेको तथा राष्ट्रिय टोलीले पुनेमा भारतसँग गोलरहित बराबरी नतिजा निकालेकोमा भने थापाले प्रशंसा गरे। पछिल्लो समय एन्फाविरुद्धको आन्दोलनमा सक्रिय थापाले राष्ट्रिय लिग आयोजनामा पनि व्यवस्थापन चुस्त भएको बताए।

'एन्फाका कार्यवाहक अध्यक्ष ललितकृष्ण श्रेष्ठको दुःखद निधन भएपछि हामीले शोकमा तीन दिन अभ्यास पनि गरेनौं। त्यो हामीले ललितजीको सम्मानका लागि गरेका थियौं। तर, एन्फाले भने हामीलाई शीर्ष स्थानमा बस्न नदिनकै लागि १० औं हजार मानिसलाई भुइँचालोले लग्दा पनि खेल रोकेन,' थापाले भने। http://nagariknews.com/sports/story/45454.html

रुस्लान थ्री स्टारसँगको खेलपछि मंगलबार थापाले भनेका थिए ‘झन्डै ५ महिनापछि लिग सुरु भयो । एन्फाले हामीविरुद्ध षडयन्त्र नगरेको भए हामी लिग रोकिएको अवधिभर अग्रस्थानमा हुन्थ्यौं । हामीलाई शीर्ष स्थानमा रहन नदिनकै लागि एन्फाले भुइँचालो गएको दिन वैशाख १२ मा पनि लिगको खेल गरायो ।,’ एन्फाले थापालाई थापालाई असोज २ गते १० बजे सम्म जवाफ पेश गर्न भनेको छ । ‘ सबै क्लबको प्रतिनिधिको सहभागितामा नियमानुसार बनाइएको खेलतालिकामा उहाँले कसरी एन्फाको षड्यन्त्र देख्नुभयो । त्यसमा जवाफ मागेका छौं ’एन्फाका एक अधिकारीले भनेका छन् । थापाले झापा र मोरङबीचको भइसकेको खेलमा मिलेमतो भएको र हुने खेलमा पनि त्यस्तै हुने अभिव्यक्ति दिएकोमात्र पनि एन्फाले जवाफमा मागेको छ ।

सोही पत्रकार सम्मेलनमा थापाले वैशाख १२ मा झापा र मोरङबीच भएको खेलमा मिलेमतो भएको र तीनै दुई टोलीबीच भदौ ३० मा हुने खेलमा पनि मिलेमतोको आशंका व्यक्त गरेका थिए । एन्फाले मिलेमतोको प्रमाण पेश गर्न भनेको छ । झापा र मोरङको आक्रोश झापा र मोरङ पनि एपिएफ प्रशिक्षक कृष्ण थापामाथि खनिएका छन् । मोरङ र झापाका अध्यक्षले संयुक्त विज्ञप्ति जारी गर्दैै थापालाई तत्काल बर्खास्त गरी कारबाही गर्न माग गरेका छन्् ।

मोरङ फुटबल क्लबका अध्यक्ष रविन दाहाल र रमपम झापा–११ का अध्यक्ष जलकुमार गुरुङद्वारा जारी संयुक्त विज्ञप्तिमा भनिएको छ, ‘झापा र मोरङबीच वैशाख १२ को खेलमा मिलेमतो भएको र भदौ ३० मा हुने खेलमा पनि मिलेमतो हुनेछ भनी व्यक्त धारणा अत्यन्तै निन्दनीय र खेलभावना विपरीत पाएका छौं ।’ उनीहरूले मिलेमतोलाई प्रमाणित गर्न चुनौती दिएका छन्

Ganesh Thapa got promoted to Constituent Assembly member when he was accused of corruption. This time he deserves to get nominated for sports minister.

It's hard to believe Ganesh Thapa is not involved in the scandal.

सात वर्षअघि नै सुइँको

सन् २००८ मा मलेसियामा भएको मर्डेका कपमा क्यामरुनसँगको खेलमा मिलेमतो भएको थियो । बुकीसँग समूहका सबै सदस्यले ५ हजार अमेरिकी डलरका दरले १ लाख (एक करोड रुपैयाँ) पाउने सोबापत ४–० को नतिजा ल्याउनुपर्ने 'डिल' भएको थियो ।

'टिमका खेलाडीबीचको झगडा एन्फासम्म पुगे पनि केही नभएपछि हरेक म्याच फिक्स हुनथाल्यो,' रितेशले प्रारम्भिक बयानमा भने ।
