Hello everyone, my sister is coming to usa with 2 daughters of age less than 2 years next month. I am wondering what benefit will they get from the government at the beginning as they will have no job at the moment. I heard they will get some money for the kids since they r youngs. If anybody had the same situation and received the benefit from the government, please advise. help will be appreciated. thanks.

Are they coming here as visitors or as permanent residents?

If visitor then no. If permanent residents then yes. Take your sister, or if you cant then tell her to go to social services office of her state. She will get some food assistance (food stamp), and many other benefit (health) to her and her children.

I will add to the points that pirka mentioned. The health benefits vary states to states. In some states she can get "medicaid" or "CHIP" for her kids and some kind of subsidy for herself, whereas in other states she might be able to get medicaid for her as well. Regarding the "money for the kids", she will get $1000 per child when she files tax. And she can also get food stamps. Other than that I haven't heard of any other benefits. I am assuming she is coming as a permanent resident.

How pathetic ! Instead of figuring out how to get good education for the kids or thinking about how to enhance one's career people are trying to find what government 'benefits' are there before even they arrive ?

Government benefits are not handouts. They are put into place so people will get some form of help in their stages of life. Why would it be pathetic? Its an option put into the place by government. Adhikari ji when you will be able to receive SS or Medicare, will you simply deny those, or say I have put money into the system and collect them? Its the same will benefits like SNAP and low income health programs. These children will certainly grow , their mother will most definitely get a job. They will pay taxes. Not every one on those program is gaming the system. There are many families who couldn't survive without these type of programs.

What else can we expect Go ahead and look for handouts Hopefully you don't get used to the handouts and use it as a temporary means If they are coming as permanent residents. Who sponsored them? If they go and immediately look for handouts theoretically speaking government can come after sponsors and use sponsor's income in calculating these handouts. Theoretically, government can also come after the sponsors to recoup the handouts in the future.

Sound like she is a very active Single Mother. Both kids less than 2 years old.
Warm Welcome to US..Once she gets here, She can make more child with different men, and collect money as much as she can from Fed and States Govt.
You don't have to work. Her benefits would be enough for you as well.
GLAD to see Nepalese are learning to follow the PATHS OF BLACK AND SPANISH.
GOD Bless the United States of America.!!!

What's up with all the judgmental tone here? You don't know this person, you don't know what her background is, and what her life experiences are, and so you have no basis or authority to judge her. She is in a foreign land and could benefit from a little guidance from her fellow 'sajha-baasi's. And no, she does not need your finger-wagging. If you can be of help, please step up, if not, just keep moving. Is it really that hard to comprehend?

Dear SGautam1, Please do not pay attention to the negative people in Sajha. The social service benefits are created as a safety net so that you can get help when needed. As for your sister with kids, she can get SNAP, CHIP and medicaid if she is found eligible ( it depends on income). She can also get WIC to help with the formula and healthy food if she qualifies. If she is working or willing to go to school , she can get help with the child care. It is called CCIS in PA. She can get housing assistance if needed. She can get help to pay for utility bills through LIHEAP. She needs to go to a county assistance office with all her documents and find out about the services.

LOL...You guys think I am the bad one..
Then You guys need to Go out and Ask the same question this person is asking to the American
person..Ask to your American Professor...Ask to your American co-worker...Ask to the person
who pays higher taxes..THEN you will get a sweet response..
YOU Guys think you'r smart ..BUT LIKE TO SUCK other people's money...
I pay tax, other hard working people pay tax so our city, road, health system, school for our children, and when we lost job it pays unemployment benefits
...NOT FOR someone from foreign country come here and suck our money...THATS NOT FAIR.

Sexy in Sari, I understand your point but are you willing and doing something to change the system? You are OK with some other people take the benefit but aren't willing to recognize that the benefit are provided for everyone and especially help out a fellow Nepali? Why so much hatred? Just because you are a naturalized citizen doesn't mean you have to hate. Please try to help not condemn. Please grow a pair, will you? P.S. I don't usually comment but your response was just so juvenile and couldn't help myself

Sexy in sari that was way out of line. Who are you to question the legal system of the US? If US law gives these people food stamp and support then why do you have problem with it? I am sure the US lawmakers have thought about it and made the system. It is the same system that gave you legal status here in the US. Why don't you tell them it was not fair for them to give you citizenship or green card when there are millions of poor Americans here already. You are sucking their money, but you have problem with other Nepalis that you think are sucking their money.

Dear SIS, All developed societies have a basic safety net created so that the people do not fall through the cracks. As a developed and civilized society ,we have obligation towards fellow citizens and residents that they have food to eat, housing ,education and basic medical . That is the whole purpose of paying taxes and insurances. These benefits not only help the current generation but the future ones too. I have been volunteering with Bhutanese refugees since 2009. The children who came to this country malnourished, weak and scared, are now confident and successful college students all over PA studying maths, science, law ,public policy and nursing. The idea behind safety net program is to catch you and bounce you back just like TRAMPOLINE but if people treat it as a HAMMOCK, then ,it their loss.

Why Nepal is in a same "sh*t Hole" even though we have so many smart, educated person like you?
Most people will blame Politician, Losers!!!!!
Person like this who wants to bring sister with kids only If US Govt. provide some benefits for her. Look at his intention.
IF thousands of Immigrant starts like this, US will be another Nepal, Africa, Salvador..
And when there are no benefits then they start to blame the US Govt....
I understand people need help in a desperate situation in a society. BUT educated people like you intentionally try to sucks the benefits using legal process that bothers me a lot.

"Person like this who wants to bring sister with kids only If US Govt. provide some benefits for her. Look at his intention. " Stop making things up sexy biatch! The poster never said he wants to bring sister with kids ONLY IF US govt provides some benefit. The poster is trying to find out if there was some assistance in the beginning till she has a job. The US govt has set up their due process for this kind of issues so get with the program. Everyone can ignore dumb biatches like you.
