It sounds like Nepal should fall under TPS status by the mere definition of it. However, could somebody enlighten me whether it is merely trying to take advantage of the situation (specially by the people who were already living in the states) or an actual cause? The signature count is pretty low and if we tell everybody why it is needed then you might get more support, including mine.

Not only illegal, the students or anyone who are in valid status but visa is expire can take advantage of it by taking travel document, work permit etc.

Well students can apply for hardships and travel, if they are in good standing. If visa is expired, they can apply for it. Why is tps, so necessary unless one is illegal. Looks like lots people are having hard time supporting it, cause it looks like another wave of taking advantage of situation back home.

TPS is only for those who came here legally and are in legal status after the earthquake. Dumb ass Nepalese think its for all.

I still didn't find the answer to my question as to how would this help Earthquake victims? Are we just trying to take advantage of the situation? Travelling part is the only thing that makes a little sense.

@divorceguy: False. It applies for those who are out of status as well. Yes, a lot of people will be in advantage in the U.S. but not necessarily the earthquake victims in any aspect. Let's stop being an idiot and get 100k people sign it by May 27.

Why you one is idiot, if they refuse to take advantage of natural disaster in home county. They are out of status or whatever it is, as result of their own decisions or actions.

how would this help Earthquake victims? nothing it's like mauka ma chauka? thing, wait... it might help who living illegally but their loved ones died or injured in earthquake so that they can visit? why this may never happened ? TPS first rule(immediate) is about protecting people to go that country that may not be safe. like- protecting people who are in process of deportation and not safe to send. so quake is not enough alone there should be like wide spread of diseases that will help. something that makes unsafe to send them immediately. do u want this? if you say yes you are an "asshole" some media even pangdure nepali lawyers are giving false info that if petition reach 1 lakh president is obliged to act which is not true. he can simply wipe his ass with that 1 lakh petition and ignore : ) but no harm doing it for humanity, it might help for family reunion for dead and injured even though they are in less no. (or more?) who knows?

I just decided to sign petition because I am convinced there might be few people whose loved ones might have been hurt and they deserve to travel, I still don't think it's very practical thought, applying for TPS getting approved and traveling. I am sure there will be four fakers for one genuine application for this, but I am signing for sake of that one genuine applicant. And we may never get, usually they grant it within week, if they think it's neeed and as time goes on , it becomes less relevant. Rational of Nepal not being safe for those who can sponsor their travel, I don't buy it

If any Nepali can benefit from anything then why such negativity. Being illegal is not crime. There are 11 million border hopper and the Mexican Americans are working their ass off to legalize them. Then why not for 20K Neplai that are illegal trying to pursue that American Dream. I know recent earthquakes is heart breaking thing happened to Nepal but if people can get some benefits because of that here in this country why cry foul?

"How would this help earthquake victim " " mauka ma chauka" , There is a law in United States , we are just asking for the right, not saying to make a new law. I am writing this post not because I am illegal here . I am just a student with the good status. If this can benefit some people to stay here lawfully and some to travel why there is a problem . Why Nepalese always think in negative way???

No! Unless you give me a good reason, I won't sign it and will keep on advocating against it. And shame on you for trying to take advantage of the situation. People are dying there and all you can think of is your status in US?

@kiddo there's a sherpa mother in New York who has lost everything because of the earthquake back home. Unfortunately she can't go back to her country because of the status she is in right now. She is bread winner for her family back home and she is doing odd jobs to support her family back home, If she goes back then she won't be able to come back. So she needs TPS. And Nepalese people are trying to help her out and if that helps themselves as well so why not sign it? Yes I understand you have a greencard well paying job and secured future, that doesnot mean that you dont pull for your people. I know we Nepali can be very jealous of each other... but common now!!!! Dont sign it that's fine but don't be negative about your own people.
