I came across this interview randomly, not knowing the whole stir and talk about it in the social media. I am talking about Kanchan Sharma Regmi whose interview was aired on Kantipur Television in the show “Suman Sanga”. I have viewed this episode 3 times before I wrote this thread, not sure if I should feel sympathetic to the woman or doubt her. Throughout the whole interview there is inconsistency and a strange vibe of lie, or lets say truth being extremely manipulated. I have noted few things which has strongly disturbed me. Being a woman, I know I should be sympathizing and be empathetic to her but honestly I didnt feel it. So I checked another interview where her husband tried to explain few things. Some things I have made note of is as follows. This absolutely needs the first mention. The interviewer Mr. Suman Kharel, didn't do his homework at all. I think he thought “ I can do this interview and increase my TRP with all sympathy I can gather through social media and publicity.” Sorry but this whole stunt failed on him and I think he should resign after all this. While I was writing this, another article came into my hand where this girl posts Kanchan's real story. In June, Kanchan was seen begging for ciggie and tea around Pashupati area. This writer was the same person who called for help and get her (Kanchan) some conselling for mental disorders. In the interview she says she was picked from trash by a social worker while passing by. She claimed she was rescued couple of years ago. Luckily, the blog has Kanchan's pictures taken in June 2016 for authenticity. The blogger also shares that she was asking people for tea and ciggie and the shopkeeper told her that, it was Kanchan's daily routine, sometimes smelling of alcohol (Please note that I am not judging her just because she smokes or has drinking issues). Doubts on the story?? Kanchan in his interview shared her hardship on how she did her bachelors from Padma Kanya and later against her husband's wish, she enrolled herself for Nursing. Someone who claims she sold her gold chain to pay her tuition fees and took such bold decisions, couldnt survive later and was living in the trash for seven years? Someone with double Bachelor's degree( mind it that both of her colleges are in Kathmandu and not in some rural part of Nepal) couldnt find a simple job in Kathmandu? I have seen and met so many women who are victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse and so on, who are trying to make a living by working simple jobs. What is the other side of this woman Kanchan that we dont know??? Throughout the interview, she seems to be trying to portrait that her husband and son are evil and
inhuman. OK FINE! You dont get along with your husband, you can blame him but I feel like no mother will say anything bad about their child on National TV. At one point she says,” I gave birth
to them I can recognise them coz I am their mother.” and after 10 minute she was constantly saying her kids abandoned her in the worse of nightmares. I might sound like an orthodox and stereotyping things but a mother will never public shame her kids. Right after the interview where she was asked to recite her own poetry, which she did, the original
writer of that poem posted on facebook giving all the needed details of how it is not her's and his creation. He has also given a link to the song which was recorded with the same lyrics. This kind of negligence from media, big or small, narrows the possibility of people who actually are a victim of domestic violence. I think to a bit extend, Kantipur TV production department should be blamed for not taking such issues seriously and let anyone come on screen and give a hoax story for sympathy. This is a very true example of how we the Nepalis are “bhedas” in the true sense. Right after the
interview, people started searching for the husband and sons on social media and bombarded them with messages, insults and copying their pictures and making memes out of it. I mean we can wait to know the other side of the story as well. But NOOOOO!! We have to speak, put opinion and vandalize someone's reputation coz we can. While I am writing this sitting in a coffeshop, I hear this young guy in the next table saying that the younger son of Kanchan is so traumatize that he has gone missing. The elder son was into drugs due to family dispute and was send to Bangalore by the father. Apparently he is not even an engineer as she claims.
A lot of such questions come into my mind and I just couldn't feel sorry even zero percent for this woman. A lot of people, specially woman will feel that I am not supporting another woman. No, I dont support a gender but the truth. Every story has two sides and I dont want to hear one side of the story and decide that the other side is wrong. I am not scrutinizing her story. I have cried listening to some domestic violence stories but I know there was authenticity in those stories. If I was the husband of Kanchan, I would have sued Kantipur TV for their negligence and for destroying my reputation, for all the mental stress that was caused just because they didnt do a background check on the story. This is not the first time Kantipur Group had done so. The last time, they published the news and an obituary of Sir Ambar Gurung with confirming it with the family. Ambar Gurung was very critical and was in ICU at that time.

"This is a very true example of how we the Nepalis are “bhedas” in the true sense" Very well said. I'd also like to quote Bhupi Shercha...."yo hallai halla ko desh".

You pretty much nailed it ! Great !! I'm paraphrasing one of the questions from Mr. Suman - " सात वर्ष सम्म बाटो (बाहिर) बस्दा तपाई लाइ जाडो भएन ?" Man seriously, is that what you think viewers should know? Clearly, the guy lacks bare minimum quality to run a talk show. But again, if we look around - how many of them we see examples of right man in the right place ?

It is true that the way kantipur presented this story wasnt right. Media needs to do proper research. I know kanchan might have used fake stories to gain people's attention and empathy but i still feel bad for her. After staying in a marriage for so many years with a husband who thinks you are not good enough for him can obviously lead a woman to major depression. Despite having good education her mental condition can be a big reason she cudnt work at all. She might not have been in pile of garbage when she was rescued but she was in the streets for sure. Her husband didn't even bother to give her any money or property after divorcing her which he himself admitted. He said he wanted to but didn't because kanchan's brother wanted the money in his account. Isn't there other ways to financially support her than that? The woman has certainly spend her most of the adult life with the guy, helped him build what he has now. May be she wasn't a perfect mother or a wife. Still she should have been given her rights. There are some lies I agree with the OP but I do not think its a hoax story.

nice one priyasm. OP here is calling nepali "bhedas", and don't realize she one among us and getting to the conclusion on saying that Kantipur is wrong, as if she did her due dilligence. But regardless of what the situation, her kids (supposedly grown ups) should have took her in or at least fight for her rights. If the story is true then she is right on saying whatever she said to her kids. If OP thinks its not okay for mother to shame her children, how in the world is OP defending/justifying on how this poor lady was mistreated (i am assuming that there is lil bit of truth behind this story).

Completely agree with you Amby, LOL at the people are still bestowing this woman benefit of doubt even after she is caught swimming in pool of lie. His husband does not even have a car. I wonder why her own maiti family's own disowned her?

Nayapidi I wud like to draw it attention to the fact that I have very clearly said WE in my thread that means I am one of the bhedas. Why it is so hard to accept that we are lame and we follow the crowd. Another thing..... I very strongly believe that it is the fault of the media house to a very large extend in this issue. Just coz someone says I am a victim of society....without proper homework they give that person 25 min of TV time and let's her vandalize the reputation of few people. Do you think it is right that her younger son has gone missing coz he couldn't handle the messages and pressure of how social network had created havoc on him?? I agree there might be some truth to her story but......if a lot of lies are flaked to it......the truth is tampered and lost its value.......and sorry I don't feel sorry for a liar even if she is a woman.

First, speak for yourself and don't speak for others. Don't rationalize saying we "Nepali" are lame. Second, the fact that these kids left their mother be in this condition says something, forget about her husband. Put her in your shoes and think. There's no men or women here.

@Priyasm- I second it. I too feel she is true victim though she lied to some extent to get sympathy. Her family should have thought something good about her .. Admitting her to rehab center, financial helping her to keep her off from streets etc.. I feel bad for her though she lied..

1. This absolutely needs the first mention. The interviewer Mr. Suman Neupane, didn't do his homework at all. I think he thought “ I can do this interview and increase my TRP with all sympathy I can gather through social media and publicity.” Sorry but this whole stunt failed on him and I think he should resign after all this. - You watched it 3 times and you still got the above name wrong. He's a retired journalist from BBC. I would think that he didn't do it for gaining publicity.
-I would think someone boasting privileged life of Nepal on Sajha will not have easy time understanding the women struggling on the other side.
This kind of negligence from media, big or small, narrows the possibility of people who actually are a victim of domestic violence. I think to a bit extend, Kantipur TV production department should be blamed for not taking such issues seriously and let anyone come on screen and give a hoax story for sympathy. - Kantipur is losing credibility in Nepal. Mysansar is reporting about Kantipur's lobbying to bring loadshedding back to Ktm. What is hoax? All of the story is not hoax. There're several gaps(/lies), and she may have more SHARE of the blame for what might have happened. But jeez, you want to blame her 100%, when her husband has said that he also might have committed mistakes.
I've not watched Kanchan's interview. I watched her husband's interview. The interviewer didn't dare to show his face. This was very one-sided interview. Husband didn't give anything to Kanchan. It's interesting how men can get(buy) divorce from the most remote part of Nepal without providing any compensation to wife. Perhaps very one-sided decision? Kanchan's husband (Mohan) looks semi-god after watching the interview. On the other hand, Mohan is so desperate to prove his innocence that he brings his sex life to limelight. He said he proved his libido by having a son within 10-11 months of marriage with his second wife. He tried to explain male sexuality and erection (lol). He accused Kanchan for (sort of) forcing him to have sex with her. He mentioned Kanchan always need to have sex after their fighting (he didn't want it?).
I think Kanchan can be blamed more. But there's something on her husband's part (though lesser than kanchan's part).
Kanchan has a brother living in US. Her two sisters live in Kathmandu. Mohan sympathized with his mother-in-law, but Nepali Journalist hasn't cared to interview to her or other immediate family members to get another side of story.
I feel sorry for her sons.
