It is same on Nepali who does not see Nepal is a FAILED NATION. When are we going to realize that this is TRUE? Even we do not see with our own eyes or it is hard for us to believe our own eyes, can we see from the International communities eyes?

The nation and the Nepali people are pushed to this situation not only because of the failure of Democratic institutions that supposed to uplift the nation but the cause goes back to the Gorkhali establishment of Shah and Rana that had washed the brain of Nepali with feudalistic life style and superstitious Hindu faiths of Frightening Mountain gods.

I absolutely support the Nepal blocked until and unless Democracy is restored with full human rights protections, civil rights and fundamental rights of people of Nepal.

Nothing can come before and against of human rights protection under the rule of law in a Democratic civil society; not even nationality or the sovereignty of the so called country with certain physical boundaries.

We Nepali have to learn and see the importance of human rights protections from the international communities observations and actions for innocent and poor Nepali people.

We must be ashamed not to ask questions and think firmly how can a nation be called a nation, which restricts the fundamental rights of people? How could we respect a leader or head of the state, who wish to cross our fundamental rights and freedom of speech? How can we trust our army whose very title is to protect the king (RNA) not people but torture, jail and kill with cold blood?

Nepal is going through civil war with the king and RNA wants to stop it without any political outlet. How could that be viable without the support of India and international communities? This sort of agendas has hopeless future for all Nepali people.

How could be there the existence of Nepal without the fundamental rights of people under the rule of law - a democratic process? This cannot be acceptable to the international communities and India.

If situation gets worst in six months - no political outlet to the Maoists conflicts, no restoration of Democracy, deterioration economics India will have to invade Nepal with army with the UN and international communities consensus.

Invasion of such sort will be necessary to protect a FAILED NATION.

NEPAL IS A FAIED NATION WHOSE HUMAN RIGHTS CONDITIONS ARE OF SUDAN.

There are different reasons that make a nation state failed. Human Rights is only a part of it. The main criterian that makes a nation state fail is to make a judgement on the ground whether the state is able to provide political goods to the people and whether there is competing state within the state. Since we don't see Nepalese Government providing a political good outside the Katmandu Valley and since the Nepal except Katmandu is in control of Maoist, Nepal is a failed state.

Nepal is gradually becoming a failed state. I agree with that view. But I still believe that, given the size of the country, the political parties should be able to bring the Maoists to the table. Alas, the king does not want to understand the current situation, hence he goes for a coup one after another. What is the result of the last coup? NOTHING... other than letting Girija know how redundant he is.
OK the king has the absolute power... now what? When had he not, in effect?

When your dad, uncles, brothers and relatives are doing crimes, corruptions and breaking law and order openly and freely..... then Nepal failed.

Our motherland Nepal did not fail itself, But Nepalese crooks forced Nepal to fail.

WHAT THE HELL YOU THINK WITH THE NATIONAL PRIDE AND FALSE DIGNITY. IT IS NOT THE QUESTION OF "You will sell your Mom for money if you become too poor or you will push up her for prostitution. Shame on you!" I say you stink with your national pride and ignorance. YOU ARE NOTHING BUT A JURK JACKASS.

THE NEW SCENERIO THAT IS COMING UP ABOUT MAOISTS LEADER THROUGH RNA (WE DO NOT KNOW WHETHER IT IS A PROPAGANDA OR TRUE STORY) CHANGING THE PICTURE OF NATIONAL DISTRUCTION.

IT SEEMS ALL THIS IS DONE FROM BEHIND THROUGH UNDERGROUND WORK OF KING G THAT HE HAD A FRACTION IN MAOISTS PEOPLE'S ARMY ITSELF. WE DO NOT KNOW WHETHER SOME MAOISTS LEARDER HAD A DEAL WITH KING G OR THEY WERE DECEIVED BY THE PLOT OF KALKI AVATARA.

"?He who seeks pleasure in giving torture and agony to people whom he think his slaves (Parjas), he who seeks power in preventing human rights of others, he who seeks pleasure in lies to deceive his own people and the world communities, he who loves to tremble and frighten his own people like to a slave (shaking hands with foreigners but having his own citizen bend to his knee, he who succeeds in staging the massacre of his own kin and his entire family for power yet tells someone else did it is a true Kalki Avatara on a land of poor.?. Bhagavata Puranas"

THIS IS TRUE AND HE HAS TAKEN A VOW BEFORE HIS MOM RATNA THAT ONE DAY HE WILL BRING BACK THE PANCHAYET OF HIS FATHER MAHENDRA ON A DAY WHEN KING BIRENDRA BLESSED NEPAL AND NEPALI PEOPLE WITH THIER FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS AND MULTIPARTY DEMOCRACY.

REST WHAT ELSE YOU THINK. AS NEPALI YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED THAT KING G DOES NOT CARE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITIES AND UN. HE WILL DO IN A NATION WITH HIS ARMY WHATEVER HE LIKES.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION JUST TO TODAY HE HAS AMENDED THE CONSTITUTION FOR THE ZONAL COMMISSION AS POLITICFAL APPOINTEE. THIS IS GOING TO BE COMPLETE CENTRAL CONTROL ADMINSTRATION OF KING G IN OPPOSITION OF THE POWER OF DECENTRALIZATION. THIS GOING BACK TO HIS FOREFATHER'S GORKHALI RULE. OK

NO CHANCE FOR YOU TO HAVE YOUR FUNDAMENAL RIGHTS. THE WAY YOU THINK YOU DESERVE THIS. I GIVE NO SHIT TO "PEACE" BEFORE THE FUNDAMENAL RIGHTS OF PEOPLE AND THE PROTECTION OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS.

IT IS LESS THAN A LIFE OF A WORM TO LIVE WITHOUT HUMAN RIGHTS.

dude what good was going on when the democracy was there two months ago...
the only people who were dying were the poor people.. forget about me and anyone in sajha..most of us here can are either living abroad or have lots of money to pay for the internet... the real citizens of nepal, the poor and the needy dont even get a chance to voice their opinion... they were the ones who had to take the bus during the highway blockade) when most of us here could afford the air fare..

now they are getting to live in peace for a couple of weeks and
the so called the politicians and the govt servicemen are getting their ass torched-- human rights issue props up..
dude i am not supporting the king but if the real people (the poor, the farmers et'al) can go about their business without the fear of being killed to earn a living ... then i will support that...
lastly dude thank your god that i am not the king of nepal-- girja would be history by now--hehehehhehheh

JACKASS scorpion_king, YOU GOT A BRAIN? Selfish fear sticken fool. There is no peace there asshold. It with RNA's propagandas and intimation people are artificially pecified. Read this following article - the arrogand, stupborn Gorkhali:

Region in fear of Nepal's 'perfect storm'

Nepalis are trapped between military-backed absolutist monarchal rule and a Maoist-inspired insurgency, and unrest is intensifying

Simon Tisdall
Wednesday March 23, 2005
The Guardian

When King Gyanendra sacked the Nepalese government, locked up leading politicians, curtailed press freedom and imposed emergency rule on February 1 international condemnation flowed thick and fast.
Britain briefly recalled its ambassador and suspended military assistance. India halted defence-related aid. The US deplored the regal coup. The UN demanded "immediate steps to restore democratic freedoms and institutions".

But nearly two months later all this huffing and puffing has had almost no effect. Nepalis are still trapped between military-backed absolutist monarchal rule and a Maoist-inspired insurgency, and the unrest is intensifying.

Article continues

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Analysts say turmoil in the Himalayan kingdom has the potential to destabilise the region, drawing in India, China and Pakistan.
Kate Allen, UK director of Amnesty International, said after visiting Kathmandu last week that the human rights situation was extremely worrying. The judiciary was barely functioning and journalists were being jailed or harassed.

"What really struck me was how seriously personally afraid everyone was," she said. "It's all about intimidation and control.

"It's nasty and it's probably going to get much nastier. But it's absolutely clear that people don't want to give up on democracy."

Amnesty has called on the UN commission on human rights to send an investigator to Nepal. Many Nepalis believe that resolute UN action in Geneva could force the king to retreat.

But although there was a token release of some senior politicians before the UN meeting, protest rallies by students and rights activists are routinely broken up by the riot police, backed by the army, and hundreds are in jail.

In a report this month Human Rights Watch said the Nepalese army was "one of the world's worst perpetrators of enforced disappearances". Its spokesman said: "Given the scale of the documented disappearances, the heightened role of the army after the king's seizure of power is frightening."

The brutal Maoist insurgency, the pretext for Gyanendra's takeover, shows no sign of abating, meanwhile. The rebel leader, known as Prachanda, has demanded a general strike on April 2.

The rebellion feeds on the chronic poverty of most of Nepal's 24 million people. Yet despite their liberationist ideology, the rebels have killed more civilians than soldiers in nine years of civil war that has cost 11,000 lives.

Until recently they were said to be losing popular support. But far from deterring them, the emergency may be helping. According to Gareth Price of the thinktank Chatham House, the Maoists are "the clear winners" in the post-coup period.

India's decision to strengthen border security has underscored its nervousness about what one minister called possible "spillover effects in neighbouring states".

Stephen Cohen, a senior South Asia analyst and author based at the Brookings Institution in Washington, said such fears were well founded. "Nepal has to be seen in the context of failed states," he said. "The central government has no capability. Democratic forces are fragmented. Then there's the Maoist rebellion. It's a perfect storm. The only thing lacking is WMD."

Nepal needed outside help, Mr Cohen said, but there was no sign that any country was prepared to step in. "This is primarily India's baby. This is a country where India will have to take the lead. They may have to think about an international stabilisation force and a Bonn-type process of nation-building, like Afghanistan."

Analysts suggest that the worsening instability could draw in neighbouring China. And an offer from Pakistan of arms in place of those withheld by India illustrates the potential for stoking regional tension.

But an Indian government spokesman said New Delhi has no plans to lead an international intervention and was principally relying on diplomatic pressure. "What we want is to see democracy restored. We have said this to the Nepalis in no uncertain terms. We don't see Nepal as a failed state. But it certainly is a bit of a mess."

A big thumbs up to highfly. Stand-for-you- rights, your attitude doesnot reflect ur name at all. You are quoting
Simon Tisdall
Wednesday March 23, 2005
The Guardian .
I wonder how long has she lived in Nepal? How long has been keeping track of things over there? Was the situation any better before Monarch took over? All that has happened is the "educated politicians" who live in Kathmandu has not been allowed to speak out of their butt.

Where do u currently reside standforyourrights? If you were living in Nepal right now, then your thoughts and anger would mean a lot to many people here in sajha. However since you quote a foreigner to clarify the situation in Nepal, I am supposing that you are not in Nepal right now. In any event, you seem to be trying to change people's political idea.

For positive changes in country you dont need to be politically active. You could do anything and yet make changes in people's life. I remember reading a post in sajha by a school bus driver from Nepal who suggested people to stop moaning over the political situation and carry on with their work. And he really reached the heart of the problem by suggesting to WORK.

Everbody doesnot hold similar political ideas but everybody must hold sincerity towards their work. So lets try to come together in what we all agree. Everybody knows how to lecture and bullshit, but it takes real time and energy to make a difference.

yeah, I do agree with yaatri. My gut feeling is saying stand for ur rights is some pro-indian person. Whatever he is saying makes no sense. He is asking for India for intervene but does he realiges that when and how country becomes a failed nation? when there is too much alien muddling its destabilize a state thus its also causes nation to collapse. I think Indian state have mind set of those colonial way and thats the biggest problem. India itself accuses China for being aggresive by its shares cultured among its neighbouring nation claiming the all are one china same its also doing to its south asian counterparts.
India always needs uneducated manpower and nepal is the provider just gues what i am trying to mean.

first of all dude "standforyourrights", mind your language... we are here to discuss and express our views.. not to call each other names..
and about that aritcle about simon tisdall --- he is just a columnist for crying out loud... if you believe in everything that he writes then that's your problem.... but i seriously dont buy that crap.. and kate allen-- did she actually went out in the streets of nepal and asked the general public-- i mean the roadside vendors.. the low wage workers...cobblers, carpenters, school teachers.. the students... et al..???????
and who were in these rallies that the army had to break up---not the ordinary citzens of nepal... party affiliated students, politicians.. yeah if i was the king i would have treaded them with a tank and not even look back...
why would you worry about india's views over nepal.. India has its own motives behind all these worryings... and they honestly dont give a crap about restoring peace in nepal..
america-- they have lost that credibility of being an ideal nation by going into war with iraq for WMD's that was never there....
enuff said la ....
