You know, it's coz speaking english is more necessary to them than speaking nepalese. Coz at home and everywhere else, they speak english and everyone understands but if they speak nepalese, no one would.
Apart from that, I don't think kids from other countries also have more affection to their parents mother tongue than english, gal.

Why do Sherpa people speak nepali when they can be speaking Sherpa language? why do newars speak nepali when they could be speaking newari? Figure it out yourself. one reason for this phenomena, rockon gal, might be that nepali parents do not actually encourage for their kids to learn to speak nepali laingauge in usa. lack of socialization opportunity is another factor.

Well, we know and have learned pretty much after speaking Nepali for so many years since we first learn to speak so I guess after so many years it gets boring and I guess the nepali language loses appeal. I guess we feel there is noting new to learn about the language so we switch to something else that might be interesting.

Besides that is it of any use outside home ??? I dont think so. Why would I want to preserve something that has very limited utility outside Nepal ?

I am more comortable to speak in Englsih but still speak in Nepali with mixture of Chinese, Malay and English. It sounds weird !!! You should hear me (US) Singapore brought bhanja/bhnaji.

rokon_gal: u are absutely rite :) There are nepali kids who actually speaks english, and prefers to speak only english and english but nothing elsel; but i dont know the exact reason behind those act.
It could be the influence from their parents, or their negative reflection towards culture and language or, may be its just a style.
Yea, it is kind of irratating; having to talk with a nepali in english. Having to talk in english with us born nepali is OK cuz they never got chance to learn nepali or write cuz their parents are too busy + i dont think their parents even speak nepali.
But, recents immigrants talkin in english with a nepali fellow(or fren) really makes me barmy; yea i hav seen some of those act in my area. It bothers...well, wat can u do about it rite?...besides getting along with 2 - 3 nepali or indians fren and swearing them in nepali. ohhh god, that is soo much FUN FUN FUN!!!. we almost do it every freakin single day!!!. cuz u know...they understand, eventho they pretent not to :D.
