I thought I had it all……….. I feel so pathetic writing this blog right now. Let me tell you my story. I was one of the very few people who had a job lined up before graduation in my college. Man, had I ever got so many appraisals in my life? The company not only offered me generous compensation but was also willing to sponsor my H1B visa. I felt like I was living my dream life. I called my parents at 3:00 am in the morning to give them the good news. I could not wait until morning. I am a spendthrift by nature. After I got the offer, I swiped my credit card even more often than ever thinking that I will pay it off once I get my handsome salary. My professors were so proud of me…I could just see it in their eyes…my juniors in college looked upto me and asked me how I did it. I was flying in the air. But wait a minute! Guess what happened last week? The company called me (I was on a vacation with my boyfriend) and took the damn offer back…wanna know why? Coz the damn quota for H1B has been filled for this year. I was numb for a moment when I got this news. That was one of the worst moments of my life. I don’t know how to feel. Apparently, I was just a number for them in their payroll. I was crushed. It took me a while to get over it. I so much wished this to be a bad dream. I could not believe this for a day or two. I was spending money like crazy buying business attire…matching shoes, matching accessories….dreaming about how I want my new apartment look like. Who knew pain was so close to pleasure? I didn’t realize I just had the offer not the contract. Some suggested me to take the company to the court. But where are my proofs? Spending money on high-heels? Eating at fine dining? Joy, I could hear in my parent’s voice? Pride, I can see in my professors eyes? I had two options. To swipe my credit card to hire a lawyer or to start looking for a new job. I chose the latter one. I was browsing Hi5 and Facebook earlier,….felt frustrated. Everyone seems to have it all. I feel like a loser having said that. Seriously, girls in the Hi appear to be slimmer, more successful (working for Fortune 500) and they all seem like they are having so much fun in the pictures. Am I envious? What do you think? They really looked like they have it all….but do they? I have to rise again. I don’t want people to look at me with sympathy. Enough is enough. I was a great believer of “everything happens for goodâ€â€¦.now it sounds so empty. I tell myself this 1000 times a day. I don’t know if I really believe it or I am just trying to convince myself. Anyways…life still goes on……We all have it all once in a while and at times we all going through the bumps. Some face hard bumps some don’t. Amen!!

i sympathize with u but hope u learnt yr lesson as far as appointment is concerned, u are not actually appointed unless both sides have signed the contract and required conditions ( eg documents) have been met. its nice to be happy and optimistic about an offer , but u have to be careful. its never 100% guaranteeed, like most things in life. even after u get a job, chances are you could be made redundant. the key is never lower yr guard

I just don't understand how you were in cloud 9, just by getting a job offer lined up before the graduation. I was working in corporate environment before garduation and had 2 offers by the time I graduated. I thought it was just a normal course, sure some aren't as fortunate; but c'mon I ain't winning a lottery. I was getting the reward for my hard work. Guess u did learn ur lesson. I still don't think everything is over for you. Try to utlize your OPT to stay one more year, then apply for I-20 in a language institute. By next year, ask ur company to reprocess the H-1B visa. Don't break the bridges, the company might sympathise with your situation and offer you the job next year as wel; afterall they have chosen you already.

Thanks for your reply guys. Kiddo, I had already accepted the offer. So, isn't this a DEAL? The company and I already talked about when I was gonna start and when I will go through drug screening and all those stuffs. I asked company to process my visa soon...they said:you have plenty of time, we will do that once u start to work i.e in JUly ( OPT should come in JULY). So, since H1 has been filled, I would have to apply for next year meaning I can't work for 3 months in the trasition period. They said they can't afford to lose me for three months...therefore need to hire someone else. It was a done deal...i guess it justifies why i was on cloud nine. had I not accepted the offer and had I not spend so much time talking to the HR...I would have taken it differently. It was 100% that I was gonna work for this company from both sides.

Vanisha, NEVER GET FRUSTATED. The bright morning will surely come. Try use your OPT for a year and then join a college to avoid "out of status". The company will surely sponsor H1B next time. All the best.

Uh, okay, and you want us to feel sorry for you? No sympathy at all. Go cry on someone else's shoulders. I had a friend in a similar situation as yours, and I had to save his hide by donating him 5k. He was my friend, and I just couldn't say no to him, but I can't be sure if I'll ever get my 5k back. Why do I have to be put in this situation because of his own failures? The guy lived life like a mack daddy. Went gambling like he's a high roller. He has to buy new clothes every three months. I mean I can't be his goddamn babysitter. The problem was I just couldn't say no to him. My main beef here is that if you can't afford to come to America, don't! I am sick and tired of wasting my money babysitting some other people. It's been almost 3 years and he hasn't paid up yet. I think it's gone for good. I am seriously thinking of suing him. His credit card was maxed out last time we were together. He avoids me like I am the problem.

Vanisha,it is perfectly natural to be excited and celebrate the good news. Well..it is really difficult to be in your shoes. Sometimes bad things happen to good people as well. Embrace your self-steem and focus on your new options. It is the best market for new graduates. You should have no problems finding another one. And remember the first job doesnot have to be in one among the Fortune 500 companies. After all it's the journey which matters not the starting point.

vanisha, why dont you go after it, i mean i am sure you did everything you could, but then again, if it's as imp to you as you put it ( which i am sure it is) then mine as well be equally persistent too, go talk to the VP of HR, or VP of the departement you were gonna get hired for, sometimes they need that extra punch that shows your persistence and character, i am sure they will work things out. and by the way, if you just go the offer right outta College..then you still have 1 yr of OPT, why dont you talk to them about hirign you for 1 yr under your OPT-totally Legal, and then sponsor you for next yr. and by the way, even if you dont get the job, atleast you'll know you wanted it so much and you tried hard and went after it, but then again this whole thing that happened to you is not as bad as it sounds..so common girl....put some smile in your sweet lips.

vanisha, i know how you feel. but do not feel down. please hold ur head high. all i can tell you is there are lot of things they could have done rather than retracting the offer. i know how it feels when an offer is retracted. now here is my question to you: 1. DID they try to offer other solutions to you? 2. Do they really want you? Once again, talk with the hr; if this retraction is based on just that u are gonna be missing 3 months. and provided you have not applied for your OPT. I have a solution 2 ur problem if your HR/company wants to work with you. ==================================================== as always what do i know (O:

vanisha, sorry to hear that. But how old are you? You should be knowing not to spend unnecessarily?credit card is not free money.Matching shoes ???matching dresses? CC is one of the biggest problem in Nepalese students as well as american students. It is no use sueing the company or anything.Nothing is permanent in usa. They have right to hire and fire any time they want and you can leave the company anytime you want.It is just courtesy to give 2 weeks notice.Good luck with your job search. Lot of companies are planning to hire this year (read in msn) so you seem smart and you should be able to get it!good luck! And remember even if you have handsome salary use credit wisely!

I just hope when you eventually come to america it lives upto your expectation. Because not everybody is living happy life there. May be then you wont regret by being rejected.
