Hello friends, As we can see, sajha website already has lots of ads. It seems sajha is also trying to earn some money by putting Google ad sense which looks like one of the thread posted by user, so that others might click by mistake. Do you think it's right thing to do or you are not just bothered about it? I really also like to request sajha to put the 'Other Discussions/Resources' link in the main 'Sajha Menu' on the left hand side column. Because I think many of us are not aware of other good sections of forum and just using Kurakani, as they are not directly visible. Rather than having all the ads in the left column (which sure can be adjusted somewhere else!), if we can have links for other sections from 'other Discussions/Resources', many of us will start reading and benefiting from other sections as well. (For example link to 'Interesting/Helpful Websites'). It will also allow users to post in relevant section rather then just posting in one section.

"putting Google ad sense which looks like one of the thread posted by user, so that others might click by mistake. Do you think it's right thing to do or you are not just bothered about " That, I think, is a violation of Google's terms and conditions, which is ridiculous, considering the popularity and image of Sajha. It should stop doing so, or somone will report google, resulting the ban of Sajha by google adsense.

also, i have noticed that on ramjham.com, while you are browsing the photos, and try to click next; after every 2 clicks, the next changes its position, and in place there is the google ad. well, while you are browsing next -> next, sometimes, u'd click the ad. unless u move the mouse a little left. i don't mind moving the mouse a little to the left, but i think, clicking some ad by mistake, will take me to that website, and i think google will charge them some $$, giving some $$ to ramjham.com. this is very unethical. i hope ramjham.com changes that. because, i will soon report it to google, because i myself, soon, am putting ad on adsense for my business. pls have some morality and change that. many business depend on such ads for getting new customers. i want sajha.com and san to earn as much $$ as possible, but pls do not rip businesses.

Haha it never ceases to amaze me how low and pathetic some people can get. I have noticed these same people trying to promote their websites in sajha time and again. Those sites are full of adsense and probably only created with the greed of making some money. I don't believe sajha was created in order to make money. I dont think there were any ads for 3 or 4 years. After 5 or 6 years there are opportunities to make some money because of high traffic, and I don't blame San for capitalizing on that. Rest of you jealous over your inability to make any money out of adsense in your websites should keep your loser attitude out of sajha.

I agree with webjunkie. You got to have a brain to get the benefit. Nothing is ethical when it comes to business. What do you say to those at Mcdonalds? Exploiting the poor or helping them earn their living? What do you say to those at Walmart? Ripping off the poor or helping them survive? You can always talk about the two sides. Yes, I have noticed in ramjham that he has used his acumen to change the position of ads and it is perfectly legal. Careful manipulation of psychology and human behavior...good job San... So, refrain from criticizing for the sake of criticizing... if you have the guts, build another Sajha...then only will you realize how much of money, time and effort it warrants to build a site like this...I am sure, you will sweat to death....believe me...you will.

Hello friends, sure sajha is one great site and no matter what we do, how busy we might be, this is where we always find time to come together and share our views. I'm 100% sure; nobody would even think to go against this massive site which we like very much. It is indeed just brilliant to come up with this sort of idea and most of all very very hard work to maintain the site. There is no doubt that all the free sites and almost all the open source projects - they all need some sort of funding, otherwise it's just impossible to keep it running. I'm sure that neither me nor anybody else is concerned about how much money sajha makes or should make. I rather personally wish that there is always some sort of cash flow so that there will never be any kind of financial problems and sajha by improving the concerns of the site in terms of ‘web usability’ will just increase its use. It’s true that people are trying to establish the site with lots of ad sense, just hoping people will click some of the links (even by mistake) and in turn get something out of it from google. However, sajha has grown bigger now, (this is just my personal request and of course you can absolutely disagree with it), however I request sajha to use ads sensibly and do not even give a chance for people to compare sajha with other minor sites. I rather like to request sajha to have donation page (just for an example, Apache has) with little bit of FAQs explaining why we should contribute and how sajha and we users will benefit from it. I’m sure users are generous and will support with as much as they can afford. For me, it’s not matter of money but request to make it more user-friendly. For example, like I mentioned earlier, we can have direct links to other sections from ‘Other Discussions/Resources’ in main menu as well, not just in the pop-up menu. Direct visibility does make a difference and it is well established and proven in the research of ‘web usability’. Most of the people are only aware of ‘kurakani’ section and for some they even block the pop-ups appearing depending upon their preferences and security settings in the browser and many people do not have exploratory nature. Probably sajha can conduct web surveys time to time as well to find out users preferences and to know how they use this site. Investigating users’ web browsing behaviour gives surprising results and after all it’s just the process of making the site more usable. I just wrote this long boring comment to strongly reflect my opinion about sajha that it is without any doubt a great concept and I had no whatsoever wrong intention for raising this thread, but to suggest and request everyone to share their views on how we may think it can be improved and at the end of the day to see our community grow even much bigger with sajha. Sometimes you may have some interesting idea/view or something that you wanted to share, some interesting picture or video clip you just took while you were away from your desktop pc, and by the time you are home, you may think it’s too late or not bothered or just forget about it. So, I even wish that sajha will be extended in a future in such a way that it will even allow users to post comments, picture and even videos through mobile/handheld devices. At least for now, as I use mini opera for web browsing on mobile devices and if sajha can also be updated following the recommendation such as of W3C on web best practices, it will also help increase its wider use and it will sure help prompt the concept of one web as well. Love live Sajha!

hello webjunkie, you are right. i do have that domain name. i do have other domain names as well. basically im student and u know how it's like being a student. wish i could earn few pennies using ad sense correctly. but more than that, as i'm c.o.m.p.u.t.i.n.g student, i'm just always learning and trying new tools and technology. and this time, i used open source content management system joomla and lots of other extensions such as for rss feed, forum, photos and events.. i and other friends, we just thought we can have this site for us to share our interest in mobile c.o.m.p.u.t.i.n.g, hci and usability and other subject of interest. i'll be very glad if anyone wanna setup site and need any sort of information that i know. and without any doubt whatever domain name i might have, i do support sajha.com 200% and will always like to see this community grow. i'm not against sajha, however just wish and hope that it gets better and bigger by all means. by the way i can't use the word "c.o.m.p.u.t.i.n.g" without that dot, cause there is one banned nepali word in the middle. :-) Love live Sajha!

I have been in Web business a lot, with all the badwidth sajha and its sister site consumes i think it just about breaks even, i mean the the google ads makes him money only when someone click on it and i dont think there are very many clicks going there as we know they are ads. I mean we should give San a break, i dont care if he is profiting from this, with all these years sajha has been out there, i just started seeing the ads this year. i mean the guy took the whole project almost solo. He lets you upload pictures and this website helped lots a people in many ways. I know he is working on a new template for the website. I even click on goole ads, just one link a day so he can get something and keep on managing the site.

I am with Cyberdude...Why don't we click those add once a day and let Nepalese enterpreneur gets rewarded for his effort to bring Nepalese community together... Google's share price is $484...few bucks extracted from it doesn't hurt at all(may be few guys here raise ethical issues...Unless San requests explicitly to click the add,no ethical and legal issues shouls be raised)... Just my two cents...

Here is my humble opinion: It is not sustainable to run the site for free (without any source of revenue) for the long haul even if the host originally intended to. So figuring out ways to generate income is the right way to go. After all, it is sajha .com and not sajha .org. But sajha should try to cover its butt when it comes to legal issues. -A sajha-user and a well-wisher.

I'm sure it's costing the sajha's administrator quiet chunk of $$$ to keep this site hosted and updated... it's the sajha's right to put whatever they want in order to make some $$ or keep the site going... nothing is free in this world.. if u don't like it, don't come to the site... I personally think, sajha has all the rights to do whatever they want... specially when it comes to making $$$... Once again, the consequences might be different, but everyone has rights to do what they want... so why not sajha!!!

I dunno if san is making any money. But i think what he is doing with google adsense is quite irritating. I used to spend a lot of time on Ramjham but after being tricked into clicking the google ads, i stopped using it as it was just inconvenient. Its a clever trick but not a sustainable revenue source. I dunno if san can ever make money from this site just alone from the ads. His ads rates are very cheap and only caters to a very minute target markets. So there does not seem to be a value proposition to San and the advertisers. My suggestion would be turn this site into a non-profit portal where nepali associations contribute to have it sustain and on top of that have this portal to market any developmental-type products or services. Perhaps san can provide technolgoy solutions to these umpteen of Nepali associations that uses this site to promote their events. would hate to see the portal go down. just my 2 cents...

How much san earns, that should not be our concerns, instead we should support him which ever way possible for mantaining this massive site. I just hope he never have any financial problem to maintain this site. Like lovaboy said, may be ad sense isn't a sustainable revenue source. I thought he should also have donation page. Because I believe there are enough generous people who would not mind contributing. It's good to hear somebody said that san is already working on new template. So, probably he is going to give it a new fresh look to sajha soon. I just hope that the site that would be simple, more interactive, more informative and user friendly. :-) I just wish San would say something here. Love Live Sajha!

Do you think these people will donate to Sajha? I doubt it...With all the advertisements, you have to deal with nobody. And, yes, the revenue will be sustainable as long as the traffic kicks in. Mysansar used to earn more than 200 bucks a month I guess. And, now he is crying for donation after google blocked his site. The fate will be sad without adsense...
