I am creating this thread here for second time.First time there was very little interest to share knowledge. This thread is entirely for new and experienced Business Analyst,Business System Analyst and System analyst for adding point to their learning as well as experience curve. Welcome all BA/BSA and SA to this forum: Let's start with something easier: There are three levels of requirements. a. Business Requirements - High level objectives of the project which are recorded in the Vision and Scope Document b. User Requirements - Task and facilities available to the end user recorded in the Use Cases. c. Functional Requirements - Detailed listing out of each behavior that the software must exhibit. This along with the quality attributes and other non-functional requirements is documented in the Software Requirements Specification (SRS).

Yes,I have been working as BSA.Let's not talk about Salary here.(I am sorry,I could not help you). What is your background? What will drive you to join BA? is it just salary or you are good at system analysis and design?

Can you describe the designing aspect of it? How do BAs involve in designing - an example would be appreciated.

Sheetalb: There are different perspectives of designing as a BA. 1) If you are hired for Business site of a company, you will be engaging much to the requirement specification and involve less to the design .You will be preparing test plan and test script later on the project. 2) If you are hired for IT site of a company, you will be working more as liaison between Developer and Business users, basically assisting IT PM where you will be doing lots of documentation and designing work. a) You will be responsible for transforming Business Requirement into Functional Requirement Specification(you perhaps use USE CASE APPROACH) b) You will be using VISIO or Rational Rose tools for some diagrams c) You will be engaging into scenario writing: Both Success scenario and alternate scenario 3) If you are hired for database designing then, you will be engaging more in data modeling like Normalizing tables and so on. I am not sure it helps a bit to understand designing aspects..

My job title is Sr. Business System Analyst and I’ve been in this position for about two years. I use some VB and VBA but no hard core programming. Like nanu said, I’m not the Business side of the company and most of my job involves preparing and running project on our company software for my PM to help him make decisions. Hope this helps.

Hi, I am on critical moment of deciding my future career of life.Everything depends on the job satisfaction everyone wants what they like or enjoy.I was always interested in analysis and design of buniness projects.I took one course called system analysis in my master's and was quite interesting.I took two database courses and did good in that.I don't know who BA and system analysis works in industry but must be similar to that.I will be gradauting in May and looking job as DBA.But now I am thinking that BA is also not bad if they are offering me good money.I already got job offer from New Jersey for 65K.If anyone is offering close or more than that I am ready to work with them in BA field. Please feel free to contact me.

Gohtalo, email me at jonnyunitas007@yahoo.com If you already have 65K offer than take that job man. I'm not sure about your status, ie if you have gc or they are offering H1. but since my company is at midwest it will take some time to make 65K here.

Gohtalo, you look pretty much familiar with data modeliing,so either BSA or Business Object will be good fit for you.If you are getting 65K offer in your first project, that is pretty good offer,go for it but do not hesitate to ask questions about insurance coverage, bench period pay and lots of other hidden things as explained in other H1b related threads . ritthe_jasus ,it depends in a company what kinds of tools BSA need to use..In some company they use particular portal as shared mail box and some company use Requisite pro as u said for require management. In some company,BSA may need to involve in test management too.

Does anyone know anything about getting trained in SAS / Hyperion / Documentum, / Ab Initio Batches? What are they and how much prospect is there in that field? These people are saying that they would process EB2 for signing a one year contract. Hansoftinc I would love to give you a call sometime and learn more. Thank You very much.

I have been working as a software designeer for over six years now in a reputed software company. Although the pay is very good; i have been thinking of changing my career to Business Analyst kind of position. I do not want to do any more coding. I am glad that i came across this forum. All the inputs in here esp from Hi_nanu seem pretty informative to you. I am trying to find Nepalese living in North Carolina to see if anyone is willing to put me into their people networking to apply for jobs there.

ChrisCornell ,Wow,normally I see people with economics and stat opt to go for PHD and hopefully that is your first choice too.If you chose to go for BA, I beileve, you will be perfectly ok. Since, you have done stat major and have knowledge of SQL, SAS(Statistical Analysis System.") may be better choice if you are single and enjoy travelling different places.

Great thread, recently i have seen some cross over between being a BA and Tech Lead on a project. I lean more towards the technical side but have worked as a BA to a certain degree, when required. What are your experiences with this? How easy or hard is it to generate FDD's (functional design documents) and Scopes compared to creating TDD's (technical design documents)?
