I graudated in august 2007 with masters degree in civil engineering with 3.93 gpa. I have even FE(EIT) too. But still i haven't got any job offer. Is it really very hard to pursue the career in civil engineer here in usa?

I don't know which state u r in. Have you tried applying in Houston or Dallas/FortWorth. Most of the guys graduating from our university are enjoying good pay in civil engg. in these areas. Best of luck.

I am from Lamar university, beaumont, texas. Yeta ta sab le houston and DFw tira job pai rachan ta. I came here last august and I have not seen anyone not getting job. Pay scale chai depends 45000-66000 for fresh graduate, average being around 50000.

May be the process u r applying is not appropriate. Or some problem with your resume. If u know any one graduated from Lamar, consult him/her and I am 100% sure u will get job very soon. That's what I can tell you here.

Anilbro, just having a stellar GPA is not enough...It is one of the major factors that is looked for in a resume but internships and extracurricular activities are often perceived in similar importance (if you are a fresh graduate).  All I'd suggest is that you fix up your resume (as you have an excellent GPA) and resend it all around.  Also, get yourslef an equally convincing cover letter as well.  The format and material for these can be found on numerous websites.  All the best.

MaryoAmericale:

if you've got some modelling exposure like swmm or hec-ras,  don't forget  to apply for M&E-aecom...
they were desperate a few months ago.
Have you applied to different locations? what about internship?
how many places have called u for interview?

Certainly, keep on trying without being distraught.

I have excellent skills in hec-ras,hec-hms,autocad, land development, gis and sap. I don't know what else the employer wants from me. I have put all my effort to make CV and cover letter very strong but no work at all. I have also the 14 months work experience as a civil engineer in Nepal too.

Hey Anil,

Its really hard to get a job in small place. I don't know from where did you graduate. But certainly, if u r in big cities, you will have big chance. If possible, try to schedule face to face interview instead of phone interview.

And Very Last not least, if you are willing to spend $100, there is a good place from where you will get atleast 10-20 call with in on week. I have seen some of my friends got a job from this service.

Send ma an email, i will give you that link.

Send me your resume and cover letter if u r willing to move in California and wanna work in Transportation/Environmental sector.

I will give a try in my company.

Anilbro, Applying for a Ph.d is the perfect safety net.  I suggest you do it urgently since most of the top-tier universities have their admissions cut-off by the end of December.  And as per pra chin, use the service he has (its worth trying...who knows what can unfurl).  BTW, keep applying to "all" positions related to what you went to school for...Make the statistics work in your favor man.  All the best.

I am quite surprised by the thread posted by anilbro. I have heard that the scope of civil engineer is very good in usa especially texas. All of my friends have got the jobs in civil engineering within one months of graduation. I think  there are some problems in your CV and cover letter. You have 3.93 gpa, FE(EIT), 14 months work experience, all the necessary computer skills. It is simply unbelievable to hear that you have not got the job within 3 months of your graduation.
