Will  Prachanda prove to be another opportunistic politician and tone down his stance by refering to Gyane as "hazur". This is one of the times I am happy we have such fu'd up language with multiple forms of 'you'. I am reallyyy looking forward to this. I hope Prachanda addresses the king as tapai or timi. Haha poor Gyane is used to saying 'timi' to everyone. Will he bow down to the supreme leader and address him as 'tapai' or 'hazur'.



2. Nullification of old treaties with India
The maoists have demanded the previous governments to nullify old treaties with india. Will they even bring it up now that they are the majority? If not, only show their opportunistic mentality.

I will not be surprise if he uses the word "bakshiyos" in his meeting to Gyanendra. I am very much sure, if he goes to Palace to meet His Majesty he will come out being one more king follower.

all better? not quite yet. we nepalese never focus on big important changes instead we prefer  non-significant ones; we change the name of royal nepalese army to nepal army, the national carrier to nepal airlines , the national anthem and what not. except incurring additional costs what other purpose do they solve?? people are the same, internal structures are as intact as before.

 " hajur" or "tapai/timi" it's merely a protocol. languages do not necessarily imply social inequality. their choices have consequences, however. one cold evening one cannot just walk two blocks down the Buckingham palace and scream on the intercom " hey Liz, let's go out and grab a pint". one cannot knock on Vatican’s door and ask Pope  "Hey Jose let's skate in the St.Peters Square tonight." protocols exist and they have to be observed in, especially in politics .besides, you cannot introduce " You" overnight to the layered language system in the country like ours. btw , if you don't agree with this, there is an old adage in urdu  that may make you feel better " Kabhi Kabhi Gadhe ko bhi baap kehna padta hai". for that matter, Mr. Prachanda may be luring the royal cat with his sweet-talk .

no matter what, be it mao, or tao or jhao, there's not going to be much difference. of course, major player changes but minor player will remain the same. only this time major players have huge appetite since they have to nourish their ten/fifteen years of starvation.

the survival mantra in new nepal  is to be the minor player and give donations to  major players(as always). read baburam's line.. .king G can be businessman and commoner , he can have cultural rights .yeah, they want him to be minor player and  if king G plays it right, he can have a good future , a very good one in fact. let the hyenas howl, the royal cat is already on the prowl .wait and watch, quite a political spectacle it’s going to be.

Things maybe all bloated up and all the technical jargon, but when it comes down to politics, morning shows the day.

This is early morning, Prachanda who has been fighting against feudalistic society is meeting the top dog of the feudalistic society he vowed to abolish. He cannot and must not call Gyanendra "hazur".

Hazur is a "chamchagir" "chaplushi" language that eminated from the royal palace. If you look at the population of Nepal, less than 5% use it. The ones who use it are tied with the Royal palace somehow.

Let's hope prachanda does not degrade himself by using chamchagiri language nor by rubbing his hands in front of KG.

For as long as I can remember, I have been using "hajur" instead of "Tapai", to the ones who are older than me. Your generalization of someone using "hajur" tied to Royal palace is baseless.

I know thousands of people using "hajur" and not anyhow related to Royal palace.

You wouldnt understand the beauty of a language.....its about respect, Gracefullness, AN art of displaying mannerism at the best. You never loose your stature to use beautifully choreographed language to Seniors in you family and like wise. In my opinion Its just another form of Language to highlight politeness, respect and honour. Degrading a language is actually sitiuational. I bet you all wouldnt talk to your Dad as Aee Baa Bhaat Kahna Aaija. AAma ta hijo Kaha gayis.?Or principle sir tero ghar ka chha? or Oi Prachanda taile ta election Jitish ni.....la talai badhai chha.     LOL now you can use this or use tapai...or use HAJUR.  dont make language a big issue here.........If you dont use it ....many of us are brought up using these words and feel like its just a normal comversation method.......just like you might have a normal pattern of conversaation.

why bother with this language issue? this  is such a non-issue. chinese, japanese, korean, let them converse in whichever language they want. let Mr.Prachanda baby-talk, sweet-talk, daddy- talk or king kong talk with King G. as long as they agree on something which is good for Nepal and Nepalese, we are happy hoina? why are we so much after "hajur/tapai"? does it make any difference?there are million more other things  to be changed and reformed in our society.
language is an art, it speaks in itself, it's an expression, the degree of sophistication however differs in different layers. that does not mean it should be associated with certain caste, creed or class. if you appreciate this art, there is no harm in adopting it.

 I do not think you can just say 'Hajur is a beauty of language' and do not address the problem. In fact all the problems in our society is becasue of 'hajur' language. In face if we have been able to limit the layer to just 'timi' and 'tapai' a lot of 'chamchagiri' in Nepal would have been abolished. Understandable that many families use the language to show that they are of 'Khandan' and are not 'Pakhe', there is clearly a differentiation because of the language in our society. In our culture, it is such address that denotes the ''class' of the person. It has always pained me to see how people use 'hajur' to anyone they found most important but use 'ta' to people of equal age but of different social class. It is so sad that we have laguage to denote respect purely based on the 'class' or 'wealth' or 'position' of people.

I hope these layers of language will be 'banned' in our society altogether and we would put everyone in 'timi' or 'tapai' bracket and thus at least verbally unify people despite social status or money!

As far as I understood, there were three forms of you in Nepali language. Ta, timi and tapai. The introduction of garibaksyosh syosh etc were either done by sycophants or by the palace themselves. Adding 'baksyosh' at the end of the word signifying "baksish" to the peasants and "yosh" signifying Ishwor. Gari baksa eesh = Garibaksyosh

Norton I don't mean to be rude about it just writing my thoughts so any offense is regretted. By the way do you know since when did your family start using  'baksyosh' style language? Just curious.

I am fine with the ta, timi and tapai usage but why do we need to have the superlative hazur garibakyosh which symbolized maha manab that can't be fulfulled by a simple tapai.

If people feel comfortable using that to elders in family then fine, but why would you use that language to the King if you have been against feudalistic society all your life since the King is the king pin of feudalism or I should say he was.

No one in my family use "baksyosh". I never said that. It is only "hajur" that we use when addressing the elder ones. Like, "buba, hajur le khana khanubho (not khaisyo)?" Now, I am not sure if you were referring to this hajur or the other ones ( baksiyosh). If it was the other kind, then I apologize for the earlier post. I have nothing to say for or against the other kinds.

So what am I and all those in nepal who use Hajur,....Bakshyosh, garishyo, kahisyo, Hoibakshyos be prosucuted if they use that language?????.........If I use that to My elders in My family is it because I an brown nosing them??? NO I do it because I was taught that way and it is a way of our life. IT IS JUST A BEAUTIFUL ART OF LANGUAGE . ..........face the fact we are not English speaking country. In fact I when I speak english with any of my family......I do use YOU .

well anything is fine as far as the tone is respectful and/or not derogatory. on the contrary, in my experience, most people find 'tapai' derogatory:D. i am fine with hajur as far as it's not used as in..."lau na yeti gardinu paryo, hajurrrrrrrrrr" bowing 90 degrees in front of the so-called 'hajur' :D

I was refering more to the usage of baksyosh, garisyo, khaisyo etc. which seems to go along with the hajur prabirti. Norton you are right that some families use the 'hajur' superlative without using the rest which is the "syosh" part. Garibaksyosh means garera baksish deu eesh.

Screw calling and or equating anyone with gods/ishwar.

Maddogg if some of you have been wrongly imbibed with the false sense of  "khandan" like SheetalB said, then it's not your fault but the fault of the feudalistic society that did it. Even I sometimes find myself singing "hatne hoina dati ladne" coz i was brought up singing that song. It's a beautiful song if you think about it. "Shreepecha ko nawai ranga danfe chariley bokera hidcha.. baacha ra bachau bhanne chatti bhitra kudiyeko huncha.." Those are some nicely crafted songs but in essense those were all marketing propaganda.  Just like the requirement to call them mausuf gari baksyosh etc.

What i am afraid of right now is that I hope the Maoist dictates don't make it necessary to call Prachanda the supreme leader or something of that sort because that would be the germination of another feudalistic regime.

Lootekukkur if you or people in your experience find the use of 'tapai' as derogatory then you are a minority when you consider the whole of Nepal that voted to bring in the Maoists.

If you look at the larger picture, garisyosh language is not used by the common people but mostly by people who have a direct or indirect role in the feudalistic society of Nepal.

As an adult, I think it is important understand the logic behind the use of language. If we do little research on Nepalese history it is clear how superlative language of 'garibaksyos' and all arose from and what purpose it served. It is important to change our behavior if we believe in 'New Nepal' or beleive in changes in society. It is wrong to stick to an 'old habit' even when we understand its implication just because it sounds good. Once i read the book 'fatalism and development', personally i stopped using the language even when i was taught at home to use it because i felt it clearly was a language of too much supremacy!!! I think this is entirely a personal choice though!

"Nepal" is fine as it is.  Calling it "New Nepal" is horse manure.  One thing's for sure, I'm henceforth calling Mr. Dahal "King Pushpin."!
