Yes,
You can renew your liscnce with H1 papers.
One more thing start marketing yourself for BA. If you wait for dhotis they will take more than a year because they look High Paying jobs only.
Best of luck.

it's an example of system disfunction.
Kind of pissed off at those dhoti consultancies for taking H1Bs away from us, but don't have a courage to bitch at'em when I see nepali bandhus getting a lifeline from them also... free market working at it's best--but we are def. getting screwed here.

So, now we have proof that the reason why H-1s were all unavailable was illegitimate means used by the Dhoti consultancies. All those who didn't get the coveted H-1 this year can look to bashing these Dhotis who hoard such visas...Too bad that people I know who were already working could not get their H-1s because of all these unfair practices.

Catwoman, the people in question were working in their OPT but somehow could not get the H-1. They were legally employed...Well, not anymore now.

I understand H1B is transferrable from one employer to another, which means you are not beholden to that consultancy. Why not look for a position yourself?

I think it's time to get everybody's attention to the dhoti consultancies and their ill practices to keep us off from H1b visas...
I understand that it's tough to know there is no job in the market, but I think it's equally important to understand it's crime to not let someone with an authentic job to push him out of the H1 race just because somebody else with a fake job hoards the quota'd visa.
Sajhaites, we should unite and give a knock on our state senators' offices and file a complaint. I'm sure they will listen.
Catwoman: The "hubris" you have in portraying yourself as a winner could blow in the wind in less than a minute...mind you...there are thousands of authentic job holders who are just looking for the right moment to strike. If it was me not getting the visa, I would def. write to my senator. My friend Rick Perry would love to get all the attention...
Don't mess with US.

Write your story to your local government and senators. If enough complain surface among the Washingtonian, things will follow up in the news media. I've done my part. Do yours. It needs to be stopped.

To be fair to her, catwoman didn't do anything she could not do legally. She has every right to do what it takes to her fulfil her goals legally. If the system allows people without jobs to enter into the lottery, , then its the system's fault. Not the applicant's. But, I don't know whether I should be proud of people like catwoman who have managed to secure a piece of American dream by getting a H-1B even WITHOUT a job or be comforting to those who were unlucky to secure the visa even when they had genuine jobs from reputed companies.
But the H-1B visa system is gone forever now unless there is a complete overhaul, much thanks to Dhoti Consultancies. Just imagine this, a SINGLE candidate from India who has never been to US and who does not even have a job will file 3 to 4 applications next year (some did it this year too, but there will be more next year) just to come to the US and work in a subway. That alone with the fact that a lot of dhotis being elligible to apply for the visa, thanks to the Dhoti consultancies again, will increase the number of applicants by a significant margin next year! And these are the people who will get their H-1s approved while the person with a US degree working for a genuine company and having a genuine post gets rejected.
What makes it even worse is that while the American themselves are losing jobs there seems to a high demand, who knows what the "real" demand is, for these foreign workers. Why wouldn't they be outraged then? Which congressmen or representative seeking re-election would then favor incresing H-1Bs? You have to be outta your mind! You think the situation is bleak now? Just wait for the next year!

oh my god..this has gone too far...i didn't know you guys would be so pissed and i don't know if it's the right word "jealous" about me applying with the help of indian consultancy....but the fact is i am also working and am eligible to apply for h1 like you guys...i only applied through indian consultancy is because they helped me a lot with my career advancement...i am also going to work for them in their own company until i'm not fully prepared and eligible for the legitimate job in the market...god you guys...

Please someone enlighten me on this::: With the new law effective from 8th of April 2008, those students who
are in "Post graduation OPT" can not stay unemployed for more than 90
days. I see so many extra talented people here expressing their view who got their job by their own merit. I would like to ask them a simple question: Tell me honestly with the current job market,,, how will those guys be able to find another job within 3 months?? I personally do not see this happening even you might be qualified well enough. Reasons: 1 month for job advertisement. Next, more than a month for couple of round of interviews if selected. "sponsoring h1 or gc" definitely will be an issue to get rejected and most importantly... freshman just out of school. So the only option is to join the consultancy to stay in the safe side. Don't you guys think,, Senators or law-maker whoever you were
referring to, are helping these consultancies instead of tightening
things up???? I can smell the arrogance of those who got the job on their own before the new law was in place. Friends,, its easy to give an advise..Explain me, will you be comfortable enough if you were given the same circumstances at the time you graduated?? I bate you wont be able to find a job in three months period if you were to fired today. Those who already got h1 but still could not get a job, please......stop crying. They filed your h1 because you could not get a sponsor by your own and now you want them to find a job for you the next day. Certainly they will take time to get good money out of you because they have invested on you. Those unlucky friends who are in OPT (and working) and were not lucky enough to be selected for h1 this year ::: its just a lottery (which is not supposed to be like that)..and listen folks: "hard-working people do not depend on so called lottery".
