well the Gurkha's fought for the English. Many lives lost.
Nepal was not a part of England then or ever.
In a way, Gurkha's were used. A bitter truth.
If we look from outside, there's not so much to be proud of after all.

agree with u to some extent but Nepal is reknowned due to their valor and galantry and above all their innocence. not to forget, they (mostly magars) helped pritihivi narayan shah to unite Nepal. due to such warriors u have a home now to go back to if US turns back on u.

i_my i don't think you are in Nepal. If you are working in some foreign companies do you think you are being used. Gurkha has been huge benefit not only to Britian but also to Nepal. A lot of nepalese  have got job, their children are studying in Britian, singapore, Brunei and hong kong. Isnt that contribution towards nepalese. And don't forget Gurkha has contributed hugely towards remittance, built many hospitals and schools in Nepal. Of course they also bring proud of being a nepalese. I have seen people who have even slightest idea of who the Gurkha is have a huge respect for them. Gurkha are always proud of fighting for her majesty and be it that way. Prince Harry said he always felt secured in Gurkha regiment and he stayed in gurkha regiment in Afganistan. Isn't that a huge compliment and respect for the most ferocious warrior in the world. We are always indebted to the contribution of Gurkha.

not only Harry but Prince Charles and rest of UK appreciate them. we have to think why we are away on a foreign soil, away from warm love of our family and friends, living monotonous life - for better life, isn't it?

similarly, people join gurkha army to upift theirs and their loved ones life or livelihood.

Good videos. Gurkhas have contributed quite a bit to the economy of Nepal. There is no doubt about it. It would be better if they had done for Nepal itself, but the way it is in Nepal it was not possible. It is true that they were used by the British and Indian governments and still continue to be used. But if you ask any of them, they don't feel that way. It is just like someone working as an engineer or programmer in the US or elsewhere. Are they being used? Yes, they are. Do they feel used? No, they don't. That's why it should be understood in the similar extent. I have nothing but respect and admiration for the brave Gurkhas. And I am not a Gurkha.

so is that how they appreciate the Brave Gurkha's by discriminating in their pays and the benefits then.

and about the Engineers and programmers. well they are not laying their lives here I guess. am I wrong?

No, the engineers and programmers in the US are not laying their lives, but  they still are in the pursuit of fortune just like the Gurkhas are. That's all I got to say.

as a kin of gurkhas i should mention that gurkhas marches with insignia of crossed khukuri representing national n indegenous weapon of nepal. not to forget the remittance that comes in huge amount. thier welfare offices situated in various part of nepal does many social works around nepal giving first prioirty to veterans, it also compensates the medical bills to some percentage incurred in any hospitals. they hav built many schools' infrastructure which r now run by gov includeing blind schools. they hav built community town halls for social functions. they hav built drinking water taps around villages. nepal's first ever election after rana regime fell was made more ease by the help of Queens Gurkhas Signal's technical suport in communication. theres a huge statue of a gurkha in middle of the london n inside indian parliamaent premises citing them to b from nepal n praising their valour n loyalty. and above all it sure has increased the living standard of the communities involved in gurkha tradition. about the pensions and other benefits, they can still live a quality life in nepal without working. gurkha officers pensions surpass our prime ministers salary by far. i dont think that makes them any inferrior because they r paid less than thier british counterparts but their salary r similar while in service.

so dude, does not mater if u respect thier deeds or not, but the world that knows them do. at least they arnt killing thier own fellow nepalese brothers...

i was born in in gorkha. My great grand fathers fought during the anglo war. But none of them ever fought for other countries.  Making me a gurkha or gorkhe!!

dude, dont get confused here. nepalese history has been written as to glorify monarchy and so called high class ruling people closer to them only. it has faild to mention the contribution and commitment of others who played more vital roles in those historical war  n events. magars played major role in unification, genuine khas army of prithvi narayan shah could not even win over nuwakot. gorkha itself is magar people's traditional place, ie, they r the natives. it was magar commander who influnced some of the limbu commander of east to merge with modern nepal citing thier ancestors to b same n worthless to shed the bloods of own brothers. junga bahadur used  many kirati force to invade tibet surely with his own rana borthers as commander. they hav seperate traditional  paltaans for magar n grg in nepal army which were formed prior to its modern formation, like purano gorakh paltaan, later establishing kiratis plataan as well. theres still a kirati temple in hattiban built by jungabahdur for his kirati armies. east india company didnt just take some selcted races randomly in thier army, hudosn did extensive research on the martial races of himalaya, which till now traditionally fulfills most of the ranks in all regiments of gurkhas serving in UK, india, singapore and brunie. saying that we dont only serve for foreign nation, theres differnt factor to that, we hav equally contributed n hav served our nation in times. most of the junmukti army of congress while fighting against ranas were gurkhas who had immense jungle n guirella warfare expereince from WWII, but only those koirala brothers n some handful netas names come up in history book. damnn saaad...

to add some points on yakthung post -  gurkhas (mostly magars again along with kami, damai and other backward races) fought the so called recent people's war of maoists and today we have ousted king and now leaders are busy finger pointing each other as usual. so gurkhas fought both internal and external wars.

 

 

Watching these clips has brought tears to my eyes. To see groups of young, strong, intelligent men seeking a way to uplift their family's life and provide a better future for their children. I would like to know how many of you in this thread or members of Sajha are Gurkha soldiers? Wherever you are, dear brave soldier,

 I SALUTE YOU FOR YOUR BRAVERY TO SERVE MANKIND!

For most of you, choosing to become a soldier is the only choice you have. Where else many of your countrymen have other choices e.g. engineers, programmers etc. Your training is incredible. Your determination to succeed is amazing. Your loyalty to the one you serve is undying. Does it matter who you serve? Britain, Singapore, Hong Kong, Afghanistan, Maoist? The bottom line is you are serving mankind. Some people think that you are being used. For a lack of a better word, everybody "uses" somebody for their benefits. Of course, you pay to "use" someone's talents, strength, intelligence, loyalty etc.

The Gurkhas from Nepal should be respected for they go where the devil fears to go. That's why their slogan says "Better to die than be a coward". How many of you in Sajha dare to die? See my friends, its easy to talk when we are behind the comfort zone of our home, office, universities etc. But when you are behind the enemies zone, action speaks louder than words. The Gurkhas have chosen to sacrifice their warm loving homes for the cold, heat, hunger, physical denial and play with death every day. They are your countryman.

So, always be proud of them. Always respect them. Always bow down to their bravery.

I suggest you to study about the history of magars and the thakuris. How they were brothers and stuffs...You'll have a better conclusion.And gorkha's isnt only to magars durung that era.
