Sakewa Sili or Chandi dance @ last year 2008 which was 5068 for the Kirat communities by 2 Rai ni. Sakewa festival is known as Bhumi Puja or land worshipping ceremony as Sakewa falls on baisakh purnay (fifteenth day of the fifth month of Nepali calendar) coinciding with the sowing season.
Kirat are basically nature worshipers and during the festival prayers are offered to the natural supreme power Kirateswor (Lord of Kiratas), who is none other than Siva, the creator of the universe for peace protection and well being of all living and non living things of the universe. The Sakewa festival is celebrated with the Sakewa Sili or ceremonial dances, which have their own significance and unique charm. Dances in different postures depicting the behavior of animals, birds, etc are performed to express gratitude to the creator.

The Rais also observe Sakewa in their homes. Three lungs (stones) are installed in the prayer room to make a furnace called Samkha. The lungs have unique names: Suptulung, Taralung and Shakhalung. While invoking the blessings of the goddess, a fire is lighted in the furnace and the names of the forefathers are called out aloud while offering food, millet drink(tongba), ginger and water.
The pot used for the water is called Wabuk or Salawa.

What a contrast! Modern vs Traditional

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder

On the way to Song, Yang meets a man at the twon of Ni,
who has two wives. One is pretty and the other plain.
Yet he favors the plain wife. So Yang asks he why?

The man answers:

"The pretty one knows she is pretty. I don't.
The plain one knows she is plain. I don't.

A bad person knows he is bad. I don't."
Yang says:

"I shall remember the lesson.
The Saint behaves as a Saint, by his own volition."
