Does anybody have any idea on how Baltimore area is ? One of my relatives just proposed to me about it being a good place with lots of promises for young Nepalese, both in Job and fun-filled frontiers. I hear that Baltimore is crippled by crime and other issues but at the same time, thousands of Nepalese including Karishma Manandhar have managed to settle in. Does anybody have any tips or info? How're colleges? Job Market. Soccer? Cricket? Relationship among Nepalese?

I lived in Baltimore for bout 7 years. If you are old or over 35, 40 you will prolly love the city and mini nepal(baltimore). otherwise its a piece of crap just the way you are thinking rite now. Community college are cheaper(there are only two> one in city other in county which are betwn 4 to 3500). Universities are little expensive, the cheapest one cost over 8Gs only tuition. Job Market> its not that bad, with in a week or bout month you will be working on gas station or subway somewhere. soccer or Cricket> I haven't heard this term during my 7 years of stay in baltimore(means they don't play). if you are thinking about playing soccer or cricket then sorry you wont be able to find a company coz everyone will be busy in घण्टा हान्न. Relationship among Nepalese > i guess i don't need to explain it, we all know how it goes while theres bunch of uneducated, illegal and 70 hours ghanta hanney people around you.
Gud Luck if you are moving out there.

Hmm.. Appreciate your response man. I'm not looking into Community college or "ghanta hanna". I just wish to move to either Cali or somewhere else by early next year to start my career and probably do something better. Baltimore seems boring by the way you described it. I wish to play sports and live a "normal" life i.e. 30-40 hrs work/week and exercise, soccer/cricket in the evenings. I don't wanna live around thousands of GC holders who do nothing but gossip, talk trash and work all the time. I've never lived around a bunch of Nepalese.

What about colleges for Masters level? What colleges were you talking about?

Hey Quagmire,
Soccer> Baltimore has Soccer team, good team (with few x-nepal A club's players)!! And sometime they play and practice with DC team!![ but i guess they practice during ANA times only]

Colleges in Baltimore(good ones)> Johns Hopkins, UMaryland(BC), UBaltimore, Towson!

I studied in UMD (College Park, its like 30 Min from Baltimore)!!

My suggestion for you would be around DC (MD or VA)!! where the real fun is! (may be i am biased as i stayed here)[ Colleges -> UMD, GW, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, George Mason, American]

Job opportunity is better in DC area than Baltimore [white color job]

about Nepalese Circle, I have friends around Rockville, Silver Spring, Bethesda[MD], Fairfax(VA), i never faced the NEGATIVE things that's been talked out in this SITE so i can't comment [most of my friends are my high school friends]

completely out of context: but if you are thinking of moving, have you considered Chicago?

Elixir, yeah, Bay Area seems to be my target as of now but then again, I'm on a lookout for more options.

Geda_gudi, I went to school in the midwest and I don't like the cold weather. Actually, I can't stand snow at all. A little is alright but snow for 5-6 months is absolutely intolerable. I've been to Chicago 8-10 times and yeah, I loved it. Most of my collegemates are from Chicago tara I don't have any close ties with any Nepalese living in Chicago area.

Also, I can't really think of Johns Hopkins. Of course, it'd be nice to get into one of those prestigious colleges haha but I really don't stand a chance. And I truly appreciate your feedback. It's really refreshing to read some additional tips and suggestions ( yours were more desirable than cosmo's but then again, he's probably more informed about the area since he's been living there for a long time ).

And yeah, football and sports is a must. I remember playing Soccer with Tibetans when I was in Bay Area and I managed to play 2-3 cricket matches with Desis and other South Indians too.

Again, I appreciate your repsonse. I suppose, I'll have more ideas once I visit Baltimore in about 3 weeks time and after meeting some Nepalese.

For the time being, I'm gonna start looking into Towson and College Park.

Quagmire,

If you play soccer, then VA might be the right place. There are at least 4 soccer groups that play every sunday.

If you are really interested in soccer, DC has good soccer team in MLS. DC is very close to Baltimore.  DC's soccer team is DC United.

Hahahaha NepaliBudho,

If I were that good in soccer, why'd I go to DC? I'd be playing for Man United or Barca right now.

I will live anywhere in the US but Dallas and Tri-State (NOVA/DC/Baltimore) area and their vicinities. Too many fight mongering and pot-bellied Nepalese with low IQs, their "fokad" organizations, their "khate" gatherings for the sole purpose of showing off,  their hopeless political propaganda and brawls over petty issues. I will stay away from these ragamuffins as much as possible.

Just my opinion though. No offense to anyone who is not under the coterie I just mentioned.

OK! OK! You guys can write better English than me. May be your Mother spent most of the times in India, where most of the people speaks English. And you learn from your Mother.I am happy for that.

With all due respect to the GWU Graduate, how about learning a bit of an elementary level grammar? Doesn't GWU require its Grad School applicants to fulfill GRE/GMAT, or any kind of aptitude test? I understand - to most of us English is not the primary language, but you've got close to a dozen blunders on your 5-line statement up there. And all of that is about how superior you are (educationally and economically) to people around you.  Maybe want to re-read (and re-think) what you type in before submitting future comments?

Once again - with all due respect...

Cheers.

I suppose I won't pull Sexy in Saree brother's grammatical errors ( albeit you're right on pointing out the fact that Saree is the sexiest dress on a woman ) but nothing and I mean there's absolutely nothing that grinds me more than someone failing to know the meaning of success!

Sorry bro, there's no fkn way you went to Georgetown and ended up writing " NEPALESE TO BE SUCCESS"! But appreciate your response and you were indeed right on being selective so that one could weed out "jhare" Nepalese from your network.

Regarding the Nepali crowd, it all depends on you first. Friendship does not belongs to a community, if your interest and their interest matches you will enjoy it. If not you can not mingle with them no need to join them and no need to bash them too. Make yourself comfortable and enjoy it, and ignore others.

Yes, you went to school at home as well here too, you are better and well cultured, they are not, you work only 40 hours they do 70-80 hours a week so what ? I think you are jealous of them , may be the crowd you explaining are dv winner and are green card holders . Man let them enjoy their life and do not foolish yourself being cultured and educated. I think you are only educated but has no wisdom, विध्या दादाती विनयम, विनयम दादाती सत्प्रात्नम .

Syanjali? Was the a reply to my post or what? When did I show any hint of jealousy? Why would I be jealous of Nepalese working 70-80 hrs? I merely stated that I'm not one who's gonna be working 70-80 hrs, that's all. Further, I don't believe I said I'm better educated and what not. I believe in Live and Let live, but I'd rather live and be left alone to live instead of just letting others live with others pestering me with their nonsense.

Btw, I'm not jealous of any GC holders ( DV Winners ).
