I had promised that I was going to start my own thread regarding stock investments and the markets. So many things have happened since last time I was here and I really do not feel like sharing my knowledge. But a promise is a promise and there have been few people that have emailed me and supported me. This thread will deal with investing in the stock markets. I will not discuss individual stocks but discuss ETFs like SPY, DIA, IWM and QQQQ. The one good thing about trading ETFs compared to individual stocks is the the ETFs provide instant diversification among similar companies within the same sector. I will post more as we go along, regarding entry-price, profit-target and stop-losses. I do not think that any ETF is good or bad. It is good only if I'm making money and bad if I'm losig money. If you have not been in the market so far, please read this as an information piece only rather than my recommendations. There is risk involved and you should know how much risk to take on any position. Any suggestations, comments and criticisms are welcome as long as it is market related. If this thread gets out of hand and we start discussing off-topics, I'll stop posting. Have a happy new year!!!! May 2007 bring you and your family lots of joys and riches.

xix ji, AVNR in my personal opinion is fluctuating too much. Green and Red at the cost of day-traders going with their whimsical bet, that is what I reckon. You decide though! Best! -B

This is a thread I have been watching for some time...good thread guys, and emt knows what he is talking about.. I am in investment banking, and I do not track stocks like I used to...but I found some of these stocks rated quite high in a lot of valuation resources that I have access to....this is not a solicitation to buy, but maybe keep in your watch list for future references. They are ACH, NSH, SBGI, PTNR. I have been getting a lot of good feedback on these stocks and their most accurate historical analysts are projecting some very bullish outlook. keep this thread going. I will also be adding my two cents from time to time.

Jhyalincha ji, quick question! why is that all your picks are trading at 52-week high? Any logic to it, if so could you kindly share. Best! -B ps And thanks for your good words on the thread. The idea is to build a group of Neprikan Investors for some fun, learning, and making monies. I guess that is what Emini would agree to. If not let us know Emini ji.

It's good that you guys are still discussing stocks. Jhalyncha: I remember ACH, it showed up on my scan when it was around 10. Rode it for a while but don't have any now. I haven't had the chance to look at other stocks but I'm sure they are good too. I think it is a good idea to buy those on any pullback. I usually don't recommend buying at a new high because of the RR, but if you are able to catch an early trend it is a good idea. It's usually better to buy a $10 stock than a $2 stock. With a $10 stock you can ride the trend longer without going through much volatility. Cheap stocks are volatile so it is necessary to take quick profits on those. There are few other strategies that I have found more useful which I'll be discussing after I come back sometimes in July. Housing numbers are coming bad but earnings are coming good. Right now the trend is up so stay with it but watch out for 1% true selling days to take profits. Still holding JDO long with a stop below $2.20.

bric, was not able to respond to your queries earlier...busy day. to answer your question on the trading value of the stk being at or near 52 week high, yes they are, but the outlook on these are still very strong based on both qualitative and quantitative analysis that has been done so far. I would not recommend a day trading strategy on these stocks though. These stocks just dont have that quick in and out profit potential. For someone willing to buy and hold for at least a quarter, this could be a good fit. I would still set a stop as suggested by emt, and that calculation he has to set the stop is pretty sound.

Jhalincha: Those are great stocks but it seems like we missed the boat. I was reading about some fund manager, not sure whether it was about Bogle or Templeton but they bought stocks that were making new highs and they had a great track record. It is a good way to make money if we are in a sustained bull-market but in a bear market and range-bound market it does not work as well. The other problem is the draw-down so your time horizon should be pretty long-term. This works great for institutions but for individual investor it might be hard. What I would do is put these on the watchlist and next time when there is a sell-off, I'll look to buy those. These stocks could go higher but I cannot quantify my risk on the trade at these prices. SBGI seems to be a little toppy here.

Thanks much jyalincha and emini for your inputs. I understand the long on the stocks could sometime be very long. And that means locking up your monies without being to take more risks, calculative ones. I shall put your recos on the watchlist Jyalincha. Emini ji, willkommen back! JDO, I am still on it. And I still like the way the market is behaving towards it. Let us see. My stop was 2 dollars and it will stay like that. Hankhora ji... welcome to the thread.

I have been olding INTC since march 06. now it's trading at 21.88. It just reached it's 52 week high at 22.50. Should I sell it and bag in around 9% gain or hold it for now? Any suggestions?

For ACH, I am thinking of buying 1 put (expiring May or June)--to limit my loss--and then hold some shares.

I do not day trade like I used to, and I do not filter stocks with day trading profit opportunities anymore. These stocks I brought up are all going to be long term holds ( by long term I mean 3 months +). I currently only hold PTNR, and I had ACH about 3 months ago-- I had held on to that for 6 mos prior to selling. I did go thru a loss for the first month before making a good profit on ACH though. hope this helps you understand my trading patterns. I always put a stop loss on my stocks, always. Anyway, I agree with all of you when you voiced your reservations on getting in at a high. Do not get into these if you are not willing to take some lumps. I would not be surprised however, if these stocks kept creeping up, since I still think they are undervalued.

guest 4 : I can never understand why people would want to buy puts. In the long run you are better to get out at a stop loss which would be the same as the strike price of the put. Even if the stock goes up, you'll be losing premium but I'm sure you have your reasons. Jhylanchi: Those are some solid stocks. Let us know if you find anything like that again, too scared to chase here. It would have been nice to catch them as they were breaking out of their base. Here are my picks: ESLR and NITE. It is time to get back in ESLR again. They did not have as good of a quarter as the market was expecting, so the stock was a little beaten, it is ready to resume its upward trend. Stop for ESLR is below $9.00 and NITE is below $15.00 INPC is not doing as well as the market is making a new high, so it is time to get out of that junk.

jhylincha, if you are shorting the stock and you are asking others to buy/hold then it may be a troublesome. make sure it is not the case.

Bhunte: What was that for? Regardless of whether he is buying, holding or shorting, you are supposed to do your own DD and follow your own rules. Those stocks have a pretty decent volume and 2-3 people from sajha are not going to make a dent on the price with their 100-300 stocks. All the stocks that he mentioned yesterday are up today and have been in a nice run. He is coming with great picks and all you could come up with is that he was trying to unload his stocks. Let's just keep our conversation on topic.
