Sajhamitra ji,
I don't know about you and for me english is not my first language. 'Cuisine' the word that guy used is not commonly used. I am sure if you had not gone to English medium school, that word probably made you wonder too. That guy genuinely asked what did it mean to the anchor. And that is right thing to do rather than thinking what it means and answering completely wrong. And what the guy did. He laughed. He laughed and laughed making the guy he is interviewing nervous to answer it. I would rather be embarrased guy to have asked what I did not know than to be that imbecile, impolite and ignorant guy who thinks everyone should know english as language. It takes courage to ask, at least he had one.

It is a freaking big deal, coming n' representing your country in international level, it's not necessary, we don't expect big talk from but at least come on it's just a simple talk. I mean I jus wonder how the hell these kinda ppl stand on diplomatic matters.

had the dude asked for an intrepeter right away knowing he had bad english this would have been a non event. Orielly would not have gotten his "funny" material.
Like someone said above, not knowing english is not an embarassment, thinking one knows it and tries to communicate in English is embarrasment.
Many gorkheys with gas station level english think they have a good english and confidently get into intellectual debates...lol...someone needs to tell them...knowing how to utter 20 sentences does not make them savy in English. Know your limits people. Don't make yourselves look like a fool.
Disclaimer: i am not an english language expert. i know enough to get by.

Way to miss the point, some of you. The issue isn't about his inability to speak English properly. What's grinding people's gears is his pretentious attitude and audacity of holding (or trying to) a conversation in English.
That said, this is barely surprising, though. I mean, ability to muster a few English words to create a sentence, regardless of grammatical correctness/flaw is heralded as an essence of being deemed 'educated' in today's society. It's pathetic and shameful, really.
I couldn't even get myself to watch the video to entirety.

Oh my shitting lord!! This ridiculousness has escalated to FB too. One last time I repeat, he was not a diplomat representing Nepal. He went with the crew and this has no requirement to be able to speak good english. Also, those who are saying he should've moved on rather than embarassing us in national tv; this is a comedy bit in Oreilly's program, not a BBC interview!! The dude was stopped and asked a question, he tried to answer to the best of his ability..he failed. I give him props for trying than just walking away saying No english no english. Dude maybe nervous or he just thinks he is suppose to laugh with the interviewer. Don't take it too seriously cause it is not a serious matter. Even the dude interviewing and Oreilly don't think its serious. Nobody is going to come to you and say all Nepalis are silly and can't speak. If this is causing our Nation to shame then you haven't heard what's going on in Nepal. There are millions of other things we should be ashamed of being Nepali right now (for example our ineptitude to get anything done in Nepal, our blaming mentality: blame everything on politicians and leaders and expect everything to be solved automatically etc) than this ridiculous interview.

National Federation of the Disabled Nepal

Go on and make fun of him guys. Or maybe try to do some of things he did in his lifetime which led him to go represent something in UN without speaking much of 'English'.

Friends, please try to judge people by first getting a full context. First of all, fox news has a very little credibility, if at all. It was done in humor so I take this piece to be a 'bad joke.' Secondly, knowing english is not a prerequisite to being a diplomat or representing a nation at UN. Third, who know who this guy is? Now for clarification, please read this blog:

I really hope people will be more sympathetic towards Mr. Subedi after reading above two posts. Many times in the net we attack an exposed person freely because we know there are no repurcussions as the identity of attackers is hidden. While the attacks in this thread haven't been too severe, they are nonetheless posed to ridicule Subedi ji without giving him any benefits of doubt. First understand the context then use harsh language. While I can't (won't even if I could) expose the real identity of those who had ridiculing intentions, I think the minimum I can do is list the name of the posters here who had smart comments on Mr. Subedi. My idea is not to ridicule these posters, but to ask them if their take on this issue has changed. These are the posters who, without knowing the context, went on offensive on Mr. Subedi (mind you, not all of them were ridiculing him, some had serious question/concern but they still didn't give him a benefit of doubt): Sajhamitra Metta Vhotee atomic sidster michigander SAP Dude riddle

Ok Kiddo....i do feel bad about calling him a Torpe for responding to an English Interviewer.
Mr. Subedi, if you are reading this posting please keep on doing the good thing you are doing. Speaking english is not important and Next time if approached by an English Media just ask for an intrepreter. Not knowing english does not make you less of a human than anyone else.

Loved your response man. Again, my intention was not to call you guys out (which I guess I did), but to hear back on your view after getting context of the person. I think context makes the person more real.

I get it, he's done good deed and what not. But, is it too much of an ask to wish that a person with limited grasp of English language using Nepali instead? His credentials certainly don't deteriorate or develop by 'speaking' in English, do they? All I'm saying is, don't try to speak a foreign language outside your comfort zone.
Well done on his part for all his noble work so far in his life.

Well,
Correct me from incorrect but I dont see any emberassing moment here. You guys have seen what he has done on his capability. He couldnt speak english is not his fault,he atleast tried there are lots and lots of people well decorated who doesnt even know english and they dont speak english at all. Like some people say here speaking english is not only the factor that should emberassed us. We all dont come being perfect. Yaha ayera usle tyatiko bolyo ta he did what he thought he could theres nothing wrong in doing things that you think you can do (ofcourse he could have asked for inepretation or could have speaked in nepali) but he didnt so what? Nepali bhayeko ma badnami nai bhayo ta hamro? Badnam english nabolera haina raja haru hamro desko badnami aru dherai karan le bhaisakeko chha this is just nothing. Apreciate him for what he have acomplished and just let him live his life, leave him alone guys. He is who he is and we know he has done more that what other normal people have done so far or can do.

I don't get it. So somebody posted a blog and I'm supposed to believe that ? Come on folks. Friends and relatives of this fella are going around the internet to defend him with anything they can. He might be a good person and his work praiseworthy, but I'm not going to believe that from a blog until there are plenty of evidences. Afterall, we are Nepali and anything can be faked and bought incuding resumes. Did he get to that job and get to travel all the way to the USA with his good work? I need more than friends and family coming up with proofs and blogs.
To defend him because he "tried" is yet another excuse that does not make sense. He "tried" is the cause of this uproar, which he should never had.
And he was representing disabled people, good work indeed. So the reason these days is that anybody who is NOT a diplomat, should be fine with no english skills. English is universal, is it too much to ask to know few sentences. Fine. Was he not aware that he is in the USA and someone might approach him speaking english? Is that a shocking revelation?
The reason the uproar on facebook is most people have the same views as us, majority rules. While some on fb have gone too far but I understand their reasoning. I am simply insisting he should have never spoken to the camera and he came off bit "lost" ( only using the word so that I don't offend his relatives and friends)
And I'm not going to apologize to anybody for expressing my opinions. I have nothing against this individual and I do not hate him, but he sure mentioned "Rice" and "Nepal" and made a joke out of it, esp on Fox news. What is wrong there to say, yes he did it. He will be better off in the future either not to speak at all, use an interpretor, or simply speak Nepali. Now, those are honest suggestions. Take it or leave it.

Riddle,
Are you trying to make a riddle out of it? Why do you think he should not speak english, if he does not have clear grasp of it? So lets see this: Origin of English is England, and a English man ask you some question in a Cockney accent, and while you think you know english enough to answer the question, you do not know typical word he is using. and you ask him what does it mean? and that guy starts laughing at you, and somehow you feel nervous about it and can not answer the question. So Conclusion made by you would be you should not use english at all, no? You should answer him in Nepali, no? or some jibber jabber, no?
Well, it is just my opinion, and as they say Opinions are like an asshole, everyone has one.
