funny that many commentators seems to use fake resume, the thing is similar to one rececnt case of a corrupted minister in Nepal who got caught and on his behalf said " bhagwan lai ta magda chadaunu parcha, maile alikati khada k bho ra?" The thing is about small alteration vs saying 7 yrs of experience when you have 3 months of training at a consultancy and originally hold psychology degree. It is not going to affect you directly but if you own the company would you hire a person like yourself?

@AdjunctProf The link you posted about people dropped out of college which a is a very tiny percentage of success. Probably you could write a never ending Encyclopedia of people who dropped out of college and are working on minimum wage. Also, most of these dropouts in the article knew that what they are going to do when after they dropped out. Like Mark already had Facebook, Bill had Microsoft and so on. So lets point out the hard work and and the skill of sensing opportunity rather than encouraging the wrong idea.

@bhetghat: Gracefully agree that those dropouts in the article knew that the degree would take them only so far. A degree is a desirable thing to have. The only point I am making here is that the degree helps you make smarter, but people out there without a degree may be much smarter. While I support anyone's idea of being educated, but I have difficulty agreeing to someone who has "I am smarter than thou because I have such and such degree" perception.

Why come to this website as anonymous user and start preaching? For all I know, somebody could be a serial killer preaching about inviolence and tolerance over here. People are trying to survive and somebody who can be the greatest faker talks about why it is not good to use fake resumes. I am just trying to understand what the jealousy is about.

One of my cousin used to deliver pizza during his college and one of his coworker from south India learned some computer skill and terminology , applied in Banj of America. He not only survived but excel. He was a good orator and bullshiter too.

Jealousy !? Never thought of this thing when I wrote this post. @mancini I am not jealous with anyone. As a part of discussion, I came across some information, though they are not full or detailed and I wanted to bring those into it. Nothing more than that. I was also suggested to go through this path but when I knew this is 'fake', then I hesitated and started work on my degree further. Like so many other issues, this is also one of the burning issue and I thought why not to discuss about this. It is up to the person for any choice they make--like some 'smart' individuals are faking resumes and making good money.
This discussion could be the part of awareness for not faking the resumes. From the frequent inputs by you guys, I also got to learn so many things about this. Max Rossa, is just a pen name of mine in Sajha created three or four ago. Other than that I have no vested motive. If you want to interact with real me you can send me an email and we can get in touch.

" I found a way to live with the blood on my hands. But, can you?" . This is from one of the divergent series. Faking resume is like that. Some can live with it and have no trouble at all. They can be glorified of it. But other can not accept it . If somehow they manage to fake it, they will be haunted for long long time. I bet everyone tells a lie in a life time, but those could be a very small lie that do not bother anyone (like lying to your siblings about their candy). It is in peoples' tolerance. Some people can tolerate only small lies , but some can manage to handle big lies easily. Time and circumstances may force you to lie big sometime. I love writing these things when I am drunk on corona. Just lied , and I am enjoying this lie. It is Jack Daniels lol.

Lawyers agree that fake IT professional resume is NOT illegal, may be unethical. It is not considered a criminal offense, and the federal agencies (police) cannot charge people or sent to jail for fake resume. The client who hired the person might file civil case (related to money) accusing that IT consultant and the IT company, but they will have a lot of burden to prove the amount of money they lost by hiring an inexperienced person. Most clients never even worry about filing a case because the amount of money they have to pay the lawyer is less than the money they will most probably win in the case. On top of it, clients should be really stupid just to accept an employee because the resume looks perfect, clients have the responsibility to verify that the experience in the resume is legit, and real.

P.S. I do not work for a consultancy, and never had a fake resume. I work full time with a client as an just graduated intern with no experience.

To keep it simple: If you are the owner of the company and you are not going to hire an inexperienced person with a fake resume, then supporting the idea makes you hypocrite. Just because thinking, sabai le gariracha maile garda k huncha ra has now made Nepal one of the poorest, dirtiest and unlivable unless you know your way around.
There is one thing that if a person is very smart and at that point you wouldn't even look if he has a degree, but to fake it and deceiving employer to score a job is not fair for the rest who has actually worked very hard but haven't gathered enough experience. It is not a good example for our kids and coming generation. Unless you want to tell your kids" kina jaane school, pachi gayera fake resume banaune ani paisa kamaune."

@ bhetghat Definitely we should not set wrong examples for our kids, however IT is not a rocket science..It's a performance which let's you keep the job, before taking that first step to fake a resume one should evaluate their potential and knowledge, I know all will not fit but sometimes their are people who are potential enough to seek growth and learn however they don't carry similar background, some jobs require a degree or equivalent work experience which sometimes conflicts as work experience may be referring to real time work, but sometimes people will work hard to gain similar experiences working on their own before they hop into trying out a career change, I can see the wrong doing but again its the performance and anyways if someone who really worked hard to make a career change is not a dumb at least have a minimal understanding of the choose path and it's true it's not for all and trying and failing will not only make it more challenging for people who really worked hard to make the shift. Point is its not for all but someone who knows will fit in, fake it and make it is the formula applied I see the wrong doing but should I not keep my eyes close if he/she is doing good.

@WakkaDikka22 why should one get a pass because simple he is doing good, I think this faking culture has become so huge today because of that rational. Its okay, if your son cheats at school? is it okay if you child steals from Walmart just because Walmart is huge and can afford it? Is it okay for your child to lie to you and bunk school if he is still doing good?
What about an average child who tries his best, works hard, does all his homework, has the best behavior and work ethics to sustain as an example employee. But an 7 yrs experienced faker comes in makes twice or 3 times the salary, doesnt know about work ethics, talks loudly on the phone in the bathroom, eats with hand even when in public cafeteria, and hardly takes shower, and work is never done on time. On top you are the one training that person. American company in general are very naive and thinks their candidates are honest, they even care about diversity and try to be inclusive as possible but when we let enter one mouse, sooner or later it will all be a dump. Take an example of what happened to Target.

If u ask anybody about these IT thing they said why not try if it pays more then these jobs . The main thing is why we came to America and what is our goal ? Is it money ? Better education ? Better life ? Or we just passing time doing nothing ? Making the better future for our next generation. As far as I know IT is good chance for you if you got all the requirement and you got guts to do it .

It basically determine by Demand and supply (some sort of business) here corporate desperately looking for skilled people,college/university degree only is not enough to meet their needs,HR not doing their jobs properly not sure why? and candidate taking risk and go with fake resume.
Bhetghat if you want to fix this issues from root level you need to work from college level because I noticed majority Faculties at STEM from asian and significant students also from ASIA. so lets try to make our kids capable to go for STEM then problem solved otherwise it keep recurring and Survival of Fittest works here that may be fair or not nobody knows.

This trend of hiring people with fake resumes is not new, many consultation company had earned millions over the years, who they are?? They are... IT pros themselves, They know the market, somebody above mentioned demand and supply, well guess somebody here is able to evaluate. Looking into it in a broader way, If there wasn't hiring there wouldn't be faking, most of the hiring manager knows it's fake consultant but still interviews Em to see if the dude potentially fits for the post and is able to perform. Guys please set ur mind everyone deserves a change its totally performance base, but please learn if u are hiring a proxy for ur Skype/phone interview, you don't know shit and you have not done your homework. That's where it's becomes illegal faking resumes is not illegal because it's upto the employers discretion to weather consider your resume or not (referring someone's quote from above post) but faking interview will put u behind bars trust me. They might record the interview and use it against you for forgeries/ Cheat etc. But again they are not willing to loose time and money on lawyer they are in the business to make money not to loose on non performing employees, They will let you go quietly sometimes with a good eye opening chat with manager and sometimes u r humiliated. Now it's upto you, Make a wise decision don't fake if you don't know shit and carry ability to perform.

Thanks all for such a thought provoking inputs, especially the philosophical ones. For those of you who do not have experience on lying on serious matter, please do not dare to fake resume. This could have some fatal circumstances in your career. Once we fake and once we present the false thing, our ground becomes weaker and there is a chance of loosing confidence and we will become scared every single day if we get caught. To be fearless, we need to have the simplicity of being true.
