Home Ministry takes a strong exception to Dr. Bhattarai's comments
Home Ministry has issued a statement taking a strong exception to the comment made by senior Maoist leader Dr. Baburam Bhattarai about taking "people's action" against certain Congress leaders.
A few days ago, speaking at a talk programme in Nepal Television (NTV), Dr. Bhattarai had stated that his party would take such action against Congress leaders duo Gobind Raj Joshi and Khum Bahadur Khadka. Both Joshi and Khadka had faced corruption charges in the past but have been subsequently cleared of those charges by the special court.
The Home Ministry has said that its serious attention has been drawn to the remarks. The Ministry has said that such remarks were in violation of the eight party understanding and the peace process.
In its statement, the Ministry has said that a responsible leader of a party like Maoists, which has signed the peace agreement, must not make such rash remarks that create terror among the public.
The Maoists have said that from mid-September, they would launch a series of agitation programmes including "people's action" against the elements that support regression. Although the Maoist leaders have said that their agitation would be peaceful, in the past their "people's action" often resulted in physical assault, intimidation, abduction, torture and even murder. nepalnews.com sd Aug 28 07
