I think this is the right move and Exactly always expected out of royal family be close to people but not politics!!!

My sansar though thinks is writing against royals is actually doing good to Royal.You never know how negative you try to portray people might take it in positive way.

I don't think Himani did anything wrong. Umesh Shrestha has nothing better to do, so he focuses on the royal family . Also it is quite safe to write whatever he wants to about the royals than YCL, and he knows that too.

I agree with Deep. Is our present governmnet legitimate? Did we choose our Mps? No. Who made them MPs?

Maybe the majority is against the King, but it is not against the institution of monarchy.

The leaders are overdoing it. I don't see anything wrong with King visiting Kumari. Its our tradition. Thanks god, Girija didn't have to face what his brother Matrika faced in 2007 saal, when he was nearly killed by the Mahakali in Makhan. [In 2007 dashain, King Tribhuvan was sick and asked Matrika to go and exchange swords with Mahakali. And Matrika was nearly killed by the dancer wearing the Mahakali mask. The situation was ugly and at 1 Am, the king went to Makhan, apologized to Mahakali for sending an uninitiated Bahun to exchange sword and went through the ritual himself.]

Kathmandu's culture is different. And as a Kathmandu basi, I believe the King has every right to perform his cultural roles. Unless Girija or Prachnada get crowned at the Nasal Chowk of Hanuman Dhoka, I believe, Gyanendra is our king and he needs to fulfill his cultural duties. And I am glad that he went to Kumari Ghar.

Now another question: Newar Buddhists of Kathmandu have a tradition of Samyak Puja in which the King is worshipped as, if I am not mistaken, lokeshowra, because, when the King is crowned, Kathmandu's Bajracharayas also perform a religious ritual linking the newly crowned King with the Buddhist pantheon of deities. Unknown to many, there is a Buddhist ritual that acknowledges the King and his "cultural authority". And no Prithvi Narayan Shah or Mahendra didn't start this ritual. I am wondering if the Newar Buddhists of Kathmandu will be willing to worship Girija or Prachanda as Lokeswora in the next Samyak Puja? Or just get rid off of the tradition that prays for peace and harmony?

OK, I am going on and on..But let me make my point: Its okay to strip the King off his political authority, but, as long as he is acknowledged by the Constitution, he should be allowed to perform his cultural roles. If Girija and SPA find it difficult, then they should go and get themselves crowned at Nasal Chowk, and be legitimate to worship Kumari. So despite what the Press and SPA leaders claimed, Girija got tika as a commoner and the King got his tika as he is entitled to.

The root of this problem of cultural confusion is the Culture Expert for new Nepal chosen by the SPA. Staya Mohan Joshi, is without a doubt, first rate culture expert, but he has his biases against the Royal Family. If others, for example, former dean of Humanities of TU, Triratna Manandhar, who have been voicing concerns over politicization of culture were chosen as the "Culture expert" for new Nepal, then it would have been different. Its sad to see a first rate culture expert like Joshi getting politicized and offering uncultural suggestions to the governmnet.

Culturally speaking, Girija doesn't have the rights to worship Kumari because he is not initiated. [I don['t know how to translate "dikshya" in English, so those with better knowledhe of English help me. ] I don't know how things work outside of Kathmnadu, but in Kathmandu, newars and bahuns, have a tradition of "mantra sunne" and getting "dikshya" that makes them eligible to worship certain "yantras" and "dieties". Girija does not have it, and that makes him uneligible to worship Kumari as the head of state.

Of course this all sounds quite regressive in our new "pragatiseel" Nepal, but I believe certain cultural traits should not be discarded just because the leaders don't have any knowledge of Kathmandu's "unique" culture.

Monarchy is bad, but the maoists are the worst. I really hate the maoists now, the way they're threatening kantipur. They've no rights whatsoever to threaten and force the closures. We should abolish maoism from Nepal. I think their real faces are being clearer day by day to the public like me. I hate Baburam Bhattarai. If maoists ever come to power, people are going to suffer much more than that with monarchy. With monarchy, only development would slow, but with maoists, the whole country could sink.

Haha everything is construed as being a conspiracy. The same kantipur who were pro maoists are now getting their ass screwed by the maoists.

I always pitied anyone who supported the maoists back in the days. It's good to see that chana tarkari has begun to question the maoists thesedays. Wonder what happened to other hard core supporter like newuser and nepe.
