I've read portions of 'Soch' and found them generally positive, sometimes reminding of Randy Pausch's last lecture. I'd overlook Mr Shakya's personal background and flaws and focus on his ideas if I could attend the program. Anyway, hope that Shirish will post a summary of the interaction in sajha for those of us who won't be able to attend.

Bathmroom coffee, You and I perhaps do not need to read such books, nor he has written anything pulled out from another planet. No doubt he is a shrewd businessman ( but that is not either crime) nor he is completely flawless person, nor I would deny he might have his vested interest -or may be he is just like " sattar chuhe khake billi nikli haj karne". However, as you know people in nepal are so "veda" as they alwys need one " gothalo" all the time, and most of the time that "gothalo" are our "neta", so if some "veda" are following his or some simple idea of humanity and positivity I consider that would yeild some good and help transform these "vedas" into a bit civilized and thoughful creature. I read his first book a couple of pages which though appears he is so obsessed with western superficial culture-like how to greet people, how to simle, how to thanks, where to throw trash and so on..however, nepali bhedas do need to know this basics..so someone of relatively big/sucessful name (gothalo) would need to tell them what to do or what not to coz they are 'veda'. Had samething was written by Kancha Tamang ko Taplejung, no body would give shit..this is how nepali are. Karna Shakya being sucessful businessman has the money and source to do so so he did it. So in personal view, without going in detail behind his hidden personal agenda ( which can be good or bad who knows?) I think if his one book would change at least 10 veda of nepal, I consider that "at least a job done".

I had read his book "soch" and it's quite inspiring. He had his roots as a park official despite him being from a rich family etc. and his family opposing his measly salary and job, he did it for many years. So his eco tourism is not a sham. There's some ppl here who are just into back stabbing and one of the reasons for the regressive society we have today. All that bs aside, I would totally go to his talk show if I could and meet this man. we need more ppl like him and latter of the type who bark like dogs.

snowfed river few people asked similar question like yours - The govt. of Nepal is going to make a law that 70 % of the funds will go to the local development. For e.g. to get a permit to go to Dolpa region, the govt. charges 700$ so 70% of the tarrif will go to the development of Dolpa. Hope this answers your question.
