Being in USA does not mean that we have to forget where we belongs? i have seen so many people (Nepali) who treat Nepali like a piece of crap. they do not see, which track led them to success; they make fun of that position when they have to talk about it. They never taught those who need advice to do better but try to pull their legs. Among friend also same shit, they will use you but when they are supposed to help they run. i do not understand why are we proud to be Nepal when we do not care for our Nepalese brother sisters and friends in this [Disallowed String for - bad word]ing selfish world.Being a president of Nepali community they forget they are Nepali i dont know what you all think about it.

Great point Dekchi Driver. I agree with aevery single point you made. People work hard and make things own money so it's up to an individual to decide how he/she wants to spend their money. I also don't like when I met new nepali and the first thing they ask me is "Kati bho america ma aako? Kun visa ma aako? Kati barsa bho? Kaha kam garchau? Ghanta ko kati $$ kamauchau? Nepali ma ghar kaha ho? Citizen ho ki student visa ma aako? Green card payeko kati bhayo? Yaha Ko snaga baschau? ". I would not mind answering these questions to someone I know but not to a total stranger.

When did i say that a Nepali should not playing poker or PS3? I meant there was TMI. You did not have to show off those to represent that you have well adapted American culture? You could have rather generalized the sentence, "I go to this 7-11 every Friday or Saturday and get a 24 Pack for me and Boys as We Chill drinking beer or playing cards "
And, here are my answers to your comments;
"Hey Listen, I Drink beer and I pay for it and I don't need your comment or suggestion. The way I spend my weekend is my business and don't give me tht bullcraaap Americanized thing." ~ So, why are you complaining about a Nepali at 7-11 about the comment he made when you were Purchasing a 24 pack here in Sajha? You should have told him that it was none of his business.
"I have Nepalese frens and I am proud to be a Nepalese." ~ He would not have never said that if you had respected him enough and introduced yourself as a Nepali being a regular customer. ~ You should learn to preserve the culture, no matter where you are. Language is a culture and should not be shadowed by English at any means whenever Possible.
Speaking in Nepali front of non-speaking audience is rude as pixie said. But, when it comes one to one conversation with a Nepali dude, there is no need to use English. Also, it should not hurt that subway girl to greet the Nepali with "ke chha or Tapai Nepali Hunuhudoraicha?" and than go ahead with "Toasted? BLT? Cucumbers or Pickles?
Our mentality is that, we hate even seeing a Nepali and talking to them, because we are scared with the fact that people (American) in our surrounding will know which ditch we came from and we want to blend in ( by modifying our accent and talking in English) as much as possible to avoid being perceived as outsiders by the fellow Americans. Things even get worse if your a friend with so called "Pakhe" Nepali. You just want to run away from them, don't you?
I admit thats exactly how i used to think and i still do. I am sure it applies to most of us here as i was born an average Nepali kid in an Typical Nepali household.

DekchiDriver
"2nd, I was at a Hindi Store trying to buy some khasi ko masu. There were a bunch of Nepalis there. (I am new to the area) I see them, give them a friendly smile and a nod, and move on. No. It wasn't enough for them (3 30+yr old guys and 2 women). They had to profile me and my gf. "Nepali jasto cha" "hera kt ghumayera". I understand that it is interesting to meet new nepali people, but dont go with a preconcieved notion of what he/she is going to be like."
Again, our parents (30/40+) would think the same, because this "girlfriend' thing is not in our culture. Its the stereotype that Nepalese should not have Bf/Gf. We cannot help it, we cannot change their Mentality.
Trust me, we stereotype more than anything else. The hatred towards Indians and Blacks and the respect towards the Whites did not evolve if there was no stereotype. Its hard to get rid off.

Americane: If I were in that situation would have done the same and treating the same as other customers. She might have faced a jerk in past, and wanted to take no sh*t anymore. We look down on people. You know and we know how we are. We have double face and use double standard, that is what we learn from our culture.

dimag_kharab bro,
True that our parents/elders already have their own views, but that doesnt mean WE are going to be the same.
Like it or not, your environment shapes your values and outlook. We might not be able to change THEIR mentality, but at least let us not restrict OUR mentality to be the same :P
Lastly, what I would like to point out is that we are not in a "restricted" society no more. Gone are the days when if you were at Wimpy Burger king with a bunch of friends, you'd have the potential to run into a family friend or a member. Thus cramping your "style" effectively. Here chances of you running into close family is pretty slim (unless you live with them).
Nepal is a small country no doubt, and once you start talking to people you kinda somehow always end up having a common person between you two, but that shouldnt restrict you. As long as you keep a good relationship with people who are close you should be able to do your thing.
Those who mind dont matter, and those who matter dont mind. ~Dr. Seuss.

We Nepalese need to learn from the Mexicans or Hispanics . They usually talk whenever they meet, eventhough they don't know each other. Starts with "Ola, Kumastas"....few words, gossips and bye. Thats pretty kool. We need to have that, but what I have found is I don't even get the smile back which I have give.

its a great thing that different people have different views. the only things is that we should be friendly change the way we think that " k bho ta tero paisa le gareko haina " or "teslai k matlab" hami haru neplai bhaye ko karan nai hamile kasailai testo kura gareko ho. hami nepali ma j bhayeni maya ra aru ko ramro hos bhanne bhawana huncha. tara koi koi le matra na ramro kura garne ra bigarna khojne hunchan. we should respect those who give us right knowledge about thing instead complaining. if you dont think that it is right info then u can move on . just get wat you would like to dont talk behind him just face it. nepali lai nepali ko maya cha tara ali badi bhayera kura garne haru mathi chahi ghhrina cha.aru le gareko kura le aafulai ramro bhayo bhane aafule gareko bhanchan tara naramro bhayo bhane tesle garda ho bhancha .. tyo prabidhi chahi hataunu paryo sathi ho..... ani matra hamile kehi garna sakchau.

Agreed with MustaineKoFAN. People have rights to live their own life as per their wish. Why the hell this Nepali old dude backbites other Nepali guy for buying 24 pack beer? If he really thinks that this Nepali guy should send money to Nepal instead of buying beer then why don't he directly suggest him to do so? This trend amid we "Nepali" needs to breakdown.

This Guy Dimag Kharab is so fulla shtt.. Look I am not going to Gas stations in DC and introduce myself to everyone. Dude, wtf is your argument. I am goin' to explain to this dude that I am a regular customer. Hell No... I don't need to justify my position to anyone. If you got time, go do it. Another thing, I said Playing PS3 and Poker, wtf dude, I got frens from all over the places, I am gonna teach them how to play freaking ludo, call break?? wtf?? BTW, most of my friends love playing FLUSH though. Also, If you don't play PS3 that doesnt mean Nepali people don't play PS3. I don't have to show off or tell you I am Americanized by saying we play poker or PS3. I came here when I was 9 and I am 26 now, don't give me that word for word comebacks. Keep your ignorance to yourself if you think playing PS3 and Poker is just American. I understand how Nepalese parents and grand parents think, OK I GET IT but that doesn;t mean that I am gonna follow what they do. We all got our own life and we live it that way. I understand their mentality but C'mon, don't put yourself in the nutshell and be ignorant. Don't criticize something coz you can't do better. And I don't need your priceless advice, what you gonna tell me after this huh?... take driving lessons from Stevie Wonder..No Bro...

dude! you are here thinkin knowlwedgeble about nepali culture who merely spent his breastfeeding months in nepal? what else you know about nepali culture? all you might remember is the cheeseballs or mango fruity commercials.
remember ABCD for dhoti? you are exactly one of them. just accept the fact that your still trying to identify who you really are. neither a nepali nor an american...how pity is that?
if you cannot even communicate with a nepali dai from with whom u deal wid every weekends, what social values do you possess? and I just dunt get why you dunt go an american liqor shop to get those? oh...I get it...because you cannot blend in with american seller either, right?
thank god I spent my 18 years in nepal. 18 get it...its called adulthood. more than twice the amount you did. I at least know what my values are.

I love doing this.
"Look I am not going to Gas stations in DC and introduce myself to everyone" ~I am not asking introducing yourself to everyone. Just do that for that Nepali Dai at 7-11.
"I said Playing PS3 and Poker, wtf dude, I got frens from all over the places, I am gonna teach them how to play freaking ludo, call break?? " ~I got frens from all over the world too. If i was proud to be a nepali and do not feel ashamed of my culture, i would go ahead and teach them how we played ludo or call break. Its a part of culture sharing...get it? Ever went to college and did some volunteering for those culture sharing aids?
"Also, If you don't play PS3 that doesnt mean Nepali people don't play PS3. " ~ As a matter of fact, i own X Box and Wii console myself. I am a bigtime COD and WOW player. I don't have to express these fact that i possess such gadgets to convey my thinking through sajha and as i said it was "TMI" from your side.
"I came here when I was 9 and I am 26 now" ~ So what? Wish you had come here a little late with your own effort. What have you accomplished? It was your dad who brought you here, you didn't come by yourself, unlike most of us here.
" understand how Nepalese parents and grand parents think, OK I GET IT but that doesn;t mean that I am gonna follow what they do." ~ You don't have any idea what your talking about, are you? Saying "Nepalese" instead of "Our" parents reflects how much you hate the fact that your parents are Nepali. Shame on you. ~ You don't want to follow your parents? "Hello!" who you are right now is all because of your parents and you don;t like how they lived their life. For God sake, wish you had at least said" I am gonna follow the positives of my parents"
"Don't criticize something coz you can't do better. " ~ I am trying to preserve my culture. I like to meet and talk to Nepalese people who do not have attitudes like you do. I like to communicate in Nepali because i am sick and tired of communicating "English" for more than eight hours every day. If you cannot preserve my culture or at least help me and several of us do that, just Shut up and get busy with your PS3.
