WOODLAND, Calif. (CBS13) – Supporters marched in Woodland on Wednesday to demand that the rape conviction for a man be overturned, claiming that he was falsely accused and convicted of a crime he did not commit.

At least 100 people rallied from Freeman Park to the steps of the Yolo County Court to show their support for Ajay Dev, who has served two years of a nearly 400 year sentence on sexual assault charges.

Ajay’s wife, Peggy Dev, is leading the effort to appeal his conviction and says it is “absolutely not” possible that he is guilty.

Friends and family said they believe an lie snowballed into a case and a conviction, arguing that the accusers anger and fear of deportation led to false allegations.

“I used to believe in the justice system,” said Bev Taylor, Ajay’s mother. “I can’t believe in it any more.”

The group of supporters said they hope their demonstration shows they’re serious about pursuing an appeal and overturning Ajay’s conviction.

I continue to be amazed how our "educated nepali diaspora" conveniently put the blame on the girl/woman. It is a virtual snapshot of our own society where a woman is to blame for the breakdown of household, family, relationship ties and the list goes on. In this case, regardless of how "her" character is, if she agreed to consensual sex or not, or how she seduced him (at 15 years of age, if you will) is pretty trivial to the fact that a parent is involved in the rape/SEX  of a MINOR who is supposed to be looked after. Would Nepalis be happy, if he got 78 years in Jailtime instead of 378?  Kudos to you all!

I tend to think otherwise. Anytime you hear a news of rape, domestic violence people easily side with women. I had a friend back home who was jailed because of domestic violence issue while it was all fabrication, the so called violence took place when he was with my other friends. Still the talk of him being a wife-beater is still fresh in his circles.

You gotta do more research on this, it seems like. Rape and consensual sex (incest) are two different animals; they sentenced him based upon the taped conversation which basically has his recording saying they had CONSENSUAL sex and when she was already an adult.

Please, before condeming one group or other, do some research.

You're right his credibility is definately in question. I think this was the reason why the jury sided with the girl. That's why I have been saying since the beginning that the defense should build a case admitting that they had consensual sex, not just rape. I am guessing, however, that if Ajay admits to that then Peggy might stop supporting him.

StiffBro: Peggy must have heard the "confession" of sex on the tape. So, her leaving him because he fked his daughter is out of question. Peggy probably has broder mind than all of us put together but that is entirely her business... What surprises me is there are plenty of people in this forum who think Mr. Lousy Lier is a saintly figure and should be freed immediately, while Ms. teenage horny specimen is 100% at fault... People should come out of their ignorance and hear both sides of the story...

Anyways, I don't think any post here is defending Ajay to the fullest (maybe except for the OP) and saying his daughter is at fault. Atleast not me, I am just saying both parties look to be at fault and the severity of the punishment is probably not justified. But then again, the jury had a better hearing of the case and they might have been right after all.
