"Hey nigger, pick that up. Keep my streets clean."
At first, I wasn't sure what I heard. Then he repeated it, while his friends egged him on, beckoning me to pick up the ketchup-stained Burger King cup rolling near my feet. Usually, I can see this kind of thing coming. Growing up black in Indiana means learning early on how to steel yourself against aggression and keep moving. I used that skill to get through the last 24 hours—a period marked by equal parts motivation and paralysis. But this—an assault I've endured a hundred times—left me broken and weeping in a dark parking garage on the edge of a campus whose beauty belies its underlying viciousness.
I cried because my country declared war on me and my loved ones. I cried because I didn't feel strong enough to face it. But most of all, I cried because so many people I've cared for and loved, so many people I've considered friends, willfully cast ballots for bigotry, fear, racism, and oppression to assuage insecurities and pacify anger about a world quickly leaving them behind.
Wondering if this applies to you? It does. Please step out of my life (read: click "unfriend"). We are not friends. We never were. We are enemies.
Dropped Jude off at school this morning and noticed a group of 5th graders chanting, "build a wall!". 5th graders. Clearly they were parroting hate they heard at home. I'm so sad. Im sad for our children. Here in Ventura, Jude is only 1 of a few Hispanic children in the school. I have NEVER had to worry about my son feeling different at school or uncomfortable in his tan skin. And i refuse to! Lets not get our kids involved in this! Please, teach your children about acceptance and love. Take them outside to play. Let them be kids.
Today something unimaginable happened. I was walking on washington ave bridge when I was stop in my tracked by a white male, who yelled at me to "Go back to Asia". I was in complete shock and disbelief. I honestly did not know what to say, but I pretended to not hear any thing and continue on walking since I didn't want to create conflict. Shortly after that moment, I was stopped by that same man who told me " Don't you know it's disrespectful to walk away from someone when they are talking to you?" I was in disbelief. I responded by saying don't you know it's disrespectful to talk to someone in that manner when they are obviously not interested in a conversation? Also for your information I am a U.S. Citizen, and if you want to play that card then you should go back to wherever you came from as well cause we are all immigrants and the only one who deserves to be here are the Native Americans. He avoided everything I had to say and called me ignorant, and told me that the only reason that I got into the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities was because of affirmative action. That struck a melting point in me, because I worked hard to get into this university, and chose to go here when I could have easily gone anywhere else of all the college that I was accepted to. I was so fed up with the conversation that I started to turn around and was about to begin walking when all of a sudden, I felt someone grab me by the wrist and pull me around. It was the same guy, and at this point I was done. I told him that he needed to let go of my wrist, and that this was not okay for him to touch me like that. He avoided my reasonable request and made fun of the fact that I couldn't get out of his grasp and laughed saying that I was " too easy". He then proceeded to tell me "I don't understand why you are walking away from me when I am trying to have a conversation with you. I told you that its rude and you should listen to me cause I know a lot more than you do." At this point I literally could not handle the amount of ignorance and white privledge that this guy had, so I told him that he literally has exactly one minute to let go of me before it gets serious and someone will get injured and it won't be me. He took my warning as a joke, and said " okay, lets fight then, you can't beat me anyways look at how small and shrimpy you are", and he actually dared to punch me ( more than once). Things got serious really quick cause kathy doesn't mess around with that stuff. Before he could attack me again I used my self defense skills and got out of the hold he had on my wrist and punched him straight up in the throat ( Which honestly I am not apologetic for what so ever). His friends who were watching the entire situation go down saw that I was going to the win fight and came over to his rescue and accused me of assaulting him and called the police. The police who came did not listen to my side of the story what so ever because the man that assaulted me had "witnesses" ( which were his friends). I was handcuffed and was waiting for the police to check my information, which of course came out clean because I am a law abiding citizen. Then the police proceeded to un cuff me and was warning me and talking about all this police jargon. I was so flabbergasted that this is the reality that we are in. As I was walking home, after the situation having people stare at me and knowing I might be a meme or have someone take a photo of me accusing me of doing something I haven't I am in disbelief.
At first I was really upset, but now I am really grateful that he did that to me. It gave me an opportunity to speak up. Here is my final statement to you sir. I am sorry that you are threatened by me and my presence and are so afraid of me that you had to succumb to this. But thank you, because of this situation you have relit a burning passion in my soul about why I need to make my voice heard, and offer that same support to my fellow Asian Americans, LGBT community, People of Color, and the oppression you have placed upon us.
Day 1 post Donald J Trump election. My child and two other students walking down the hallway at Wesley Chapel High School and a white male teacher asks them what are they up to. (it's during period break so they are suppose to be there mind you) Anyway the teacher says to them "Don't make me call Donald Trump to get you sent back to Africa." When my child told me that I didn't know what to say. I was blown away. I'm not going to lie, I saw RED!!! I did almost 100 getting back up to that school. I'm beyond pissed right now. I damn near have tears in my eyes. Politics are Politics but once you say something to my child then it's fucking on! I warn any [Disallowed String for - No foul language here]cker to say something sideways to my from now on! [Disallowed String for - No foul language here]ckers are feeling froggy today so I'm about to play fucking frogger today and run some bitches down! People ask what blacks, Muslims, gays and others that are different have from fear. This is what we fucking fear. I'm not worried about Donald. I'm worried about the dumb fucks that feel like they can say and do whatever they want now because of him. I appreciate the Principal and Asst Principal for moving so fast on this, but it's not something I would ever expect (yes I do) from a person that's suppose to teach our children. Smh I'm fucking sweating and shaking.... come to find out it's the damn golf coach at the school. John Sousa

So the real suffering of the real people, including young kids being bullied, in your words is "liberals are trying to make a scene." That's quite a logic, sir.
We should listen to what trump said for about 3-4 minutes? What about what he said during the entire campaign and before all those years? He said something along these lines, "if you're powerful, you can do anything. You can grab literally any women by their pussy." He is going to have the most power of any men in the world; so we should just remember those 3 minutes of his words he said yesterday and forget all that he has done and said, right?

The problem with far right and far left people are that they think they are too far from each other but they share 'yuge' amount of similarity. They are either supporters or silent praisers of the terms like 'basket of deplorable', 'basement dwellers', 'build the wall', 'rapist' and so. Cherrypicking the events to prove their ego will just create the hatred towards them from rest of 'us'. Us here means a lot of independents and supporters of good agenda and people carrying them.
I am not denying that there have been horrible incidents in the name of race and Trump. I detest that. But had you focused the victims on the both side, I'd have supported you as well.

Your sarcasm is duly noted.
Meanwhile..
“White nationalists, Vladimir Putin and ISIS are celebrating Donald Trump’s victory, while innocent, law-abiding Americans are wracked with fear – especially African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Muslim Americans, LGBT Americans and Asian Americans. Watching white nationalists celebrate while innocent Americans cry tears of fear does not feel like America."

Kalikopoi, I agree with you to an extent. Yes, both sides are not immune to the violence, but you're living in your own reality if you think one side compares to the other. Every four years there is one side that is upset aftermath of the election result, but what we are seeing is unprecedented. And this didn't happen overnight, it is actually the manifestation of Trump's own words and deeds. This somewhat remained dormant while his campaign, sometimes unsuccessfully, tried to stop his hateful and erratic remarks, but now that the election is over, the hate is clearly showing.

"but you're living in your own reality if you think one side compares to the other."
Now you want to dictate how I should think?
See, you never want to come to plain level and say white is white and black is black. You see it white as long as it favors you. Else its black. I reiterate again, there is no place for violence in the name of human's physical/spiritual attributes. Peace!

You're a free person living in a free world; evidently, there are also people here on Sajha that believe in other things like NWO, Michelle Obama is a man, Obama is gay, among many others..
So, no, I'm not telling you to what or how you should think. What I AM telling you is the things that are happening in this country is something that never happened in this magnitude in many past elections or aftermath of it. And, if you still think one side parallels to the other, I'm not asking you what to think, but I for one think you are living in your own reality for this false equivalence.
Safety pins have again become a symbol of solidarity with victims of racist, religious or homophobic abuse, following alleged attacks in the US in the wake of Donald Trump's election win.
The idea of wearing a safety pin as a political message was used in the UK after the vote there to leave the European Union, following an increase in alleged cases of hate crime.
The Republican said in his victory speech that he would be a "president for all Americans".
But the billionaire ran a campaign in which he made remarks that offended Muslims, Latinos, women and the disabled, among others.
Hours after his victory, alleged cases of abuse against minorities were reported in many US cities.
In California, authorities were investigating the reported attack of a Muslim student wearing a headscarf at the San Diego State University campus by two suspects. They allegedly made comments about Mr Trump's election.
Officials said the assault on the woman, who was wearing a hijab and was not hurt, happened in a parking complex. The suspects stole her car keys, and the vehicle was later reported missing.
Police were also investigating spray-painted obscene messages in South Philadelphia, the Philly Voice reported. Pro-Nazi graffiti was also spotted - it was not clear if the cases were related.
There was also at least one false claim. In Louisiana, an 18-year-old student admitted she fabricated a story that two white men, one wearing a Trump hat, had attacked her near the University of Louisiana campus hours after the Republican's victory. She gave no reason for the false account.
There were also cases of violence against Trump voters. Police were investigating an incident in Chicago, where a man was beaten after a traffic incident, with bystanders yelling "Don't vote Trump". A video of it has gone viral.
Safety pins were first used as a symbol of unity and hope back on World War II, when the Netherlands were invaded. The Dutch wore them under their collar to show loyalty to the queen and not be persecuted by the Nazis.
From Trump “I will revoke TPS, and deport them back to their country.”
and it begins - on Day 1 Trump will begin operations to deport millions of undocumented immigrants
