In few lines: Omaha is good city for starting up (study, easy to get H1 and even green card, get first house ..) i.e. get some startup experience as a whole... Omaha is an ok city if you want to go BEYOND that....there are 50 states in U.S. and there are pros and cons with each one of them. Based on your living style, priorities, roots and what you value most in your life, you might want to consider where would be the best place to spend rest of your and your family's lives. There are 49 more options....why get stuck in One? Sona

The only place I would consider a lil cultured in Omaha is the Old Town area. There are a couple of restaurents, coffeshops, bars, booksshop, beatniks etc. etc. The rest of the town is full of Hicks.

bathroomcoffee, define cultured. and please do define "hick town." if coffeeshops, and restaurants are what makes a place not "hick town", omaha has one of the largest number of restaurants per population than most of the cities. don't get me wrong, omaha isn't exactly an exciting town and by no means am i trying to defend it, but it's a nice place to live. sona is right, it's a nice place to start. lived in california and lived in new york, california is just too nice but only if you're in the rich part of the town and same in NY. So here is my take on it, i can live in omaha and ocassionlly visit places and friends out of town and live a good life or i can live in a big city and live a not so good life. if i can afford to have time to have fun then i think that's a good life and here i can do that. just my 2 cents. oh and by the way, people here in omaha always complain about how boring life gets here and they're right...boring it is and i am not denying it but if you have friends then life automatically gets exciting.

Why so yaar? Why brucelee was blocked? Have you seen his "Malai maaf garideu" post? He is regretting for what he wrote. Let us give him a chance. It seems he has bad days going around and really in need of some help and suggestions. Sajha admin don't let anyone in need be left unheeded. There are so many good people here who are willing to help him. We should be conscious at such matter. We should not leave any nepali be left disturbed in foreign land. Peace !!!

I've been in Omaha for a while... it used to be different, as far as finding jobs and working w/out papers.. however, things have changed.. i'm not saying u can't come here and study.. but, from the job prospects, it has definately changed from how it used to be... there r lots of jobs, however, for one to get the jobs, u better have a social security, be able to drive (no good public transportation)... things r same wherever u go in US, however, i feel like when u go to place like NY, TX, CA, there r lots of Desi restaurants/gas statations/motel where u can get cash paid and have less to worry about being in trouble w/ INS... i'd a cousin that went to UNK (University of Nebraska at Kearney) of which i've heard good things.. it's not that far from Omaha.. it's almost i think half the cost of UNO.. and i've heard u get more scholorship, on-campus jobs and for summer u can go out of the state to do summer job that'll be sufficient for u to study for the rest of the year.. and, if u r still planning on coming to Omaha, u can always come to UNO so that u'll get the VISA and then transfer to Metro Community college (www.mccneb.edu) and finish up 2 yrs there and move on somewhere else... hope this helps and good luck.
