okay, it's been ages since i have stopped following/playing cricket. there was a time when i led the cricket team of my school, and brought it to a winning streak :P. i used to be a fast bowler (opening), a middle order batsman and a not so shrewd captain. :P
cricket is a psychological game. it's more of a mental battle than physical, i believe. being a fast bowler, i always had the luxury to act stylish and ominous....shine the ball, arrange an attacking field, take long run-ups, pretend scary look, wear scarf on the forehead...hehe....i have tried everything possible to scare the hell out of a batsman :P....now dont ask me how many wide balls i deliver in an over hahahahahahaha :P...
pakistan used to be my fav team, still is. as an amateur, i have always admired heroes like wasim akram-- my idol in cricket, so to speak. i have always believed that pakistan is a very talented team. the folks who play for pakistan are born talented unlike some of the players of other teams who work their ass off to polish their skills. players like javed miandad, imran khan, abdul qadir (i have an autograph of him :P), wasim, waqar, saqlain, afridi are some of the big names of this team in same or different times. most of these players were literally picked up from streets! they won the world cup in 1992 held in australia.
over the last decade or two, pakistan's major strength has been their deadly bowling department. but after wasim and waqar got retired few years back, they have been struggling to keep their pride of fast bowling as high as they used to have. shoaib, asif, shabbir, sami all are good bowlers but by no means comparable to the likes of two w's (wasim and waqar).
the other thing that is hindering pakistan to perform better than they actually deserve is their poor disclipine. they are a bunch of careless players, if one may say. match fixing allegations, politics, ball tampering...there are always issues with this team. with the recent banning of shoaib, for 2 years and asif, for 1 year, due to drug abuse, pakistan's prospect of lifting the world cup next year in west indies has been jeopardized, big time! i dont know where this team will stand....but i will still cheer up for them. once a fan, always fan. :p
good obeservation there kishna! indeed, the quality of the game has improved. the pace of the game has increased as well. in the future, we may see different forms of limited over game. however, i still prefer 5 dayer to ODI. :), simply because it takes a lot of characters, determination with patience and techiniques to play a test. anyone who can use long handle, can maintain their place in ODI.
sn di, hajurko india le pani kahile jitera khane bhayena. ke garnu hunchha jhur team support gare pachhi...pakistan camp ma aaune haina ? :p
"tendulkar, the so-called master blaster, has hit more than 60 centuries in total, in both forms of the game. however, only few times india have won, when he scored centuries.'
If you have not realized, cricket is a team game and I guess that speaks all. If you look into the crickt history and spend few mins to ponder rather than just being judgemental, you'll probably find countable matches where only one player's contribution led the team to win matches. If he had more support, probably his centuries would have led his team to the wining seat. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "he 'pees' under pressure more than any other player, so to speak! :P." Do not know when you observed such scenario!
Jumbo may not have taken more wickets in the international scenario, he still has contributed his cameo roles when it was needed! You can't expect people to be perfectionist!
"tendulkar, the so-called master blaster, has hit more than 60 centuries in total, in both forms of the game. however, only few times india have won, when he scored centuries."
But the records don't really validate this argument.
In test cricket, it's Brian Lara who has suffered more than Tendulkar. Lara's career is another example of how you can't win a Test match single-handedly. Despite his prolific run-scoring, thirteen of Lara's 32 hundreds haven't prevented West Indies from losing and only eight have led to wins. Even when Lara has gone on to score big - a double hundred for instance - it hasn't made a difference at times. Lara has passed 200 on eight occasions of which West Indies have won just one - against Australia in Jamaica - and lost three. Lara, in fact, holds the record for the most runs in a lost match. He scored 221 and 130 in Colombo in 2001 but Sri Lanka still won by ten wickets. He has a better record in one-day internationals - West Indies have won 16 of the 19 ODIs in which Lara has scored a hundred. Out of 35 tons Tendulkar has scored in Test, only 8 of those 35 ended up being not fruitful and India lost the game.
In ODI, Tendulkar does lead the club of Hundreds in defeats (in terms of numbers). India lost 11 times although Tendulkar managed to get a ton (out of 40 tons in his ODI career). If we talk in %, Markus Trescothick ileads the house. Out of 12 tons he has scored in ODI, England lost 6 of them. Similarly, out of 15 tons Chris Gayle has scored in ODIs, West Indies have lost in 6.
If you have not realized, cricket is a team game and I guess that speaks all.
--thanks for letting me know that :P. i didn't know it before. as much as it is team game, personal contribution speaks a lot of volume. and when you are THE master blaster, you are supposed to finish the match off in your team's favor more often than not. have you seen tendulkar play pakis in the asian test championship (98-99) in chennai? india needed 17 runs to win with 4 wickets in hand and tendulkar scored 100. but as pakis started to bowl a tight line, he peed and boom --a rash shot, uncharactersitic of YOURS tendulkar!....India lost to Pakis yet again hahahahahahahaha :P

I am not saying, you can expect an individual to win matches for you every time. BUT when we talk of much HYPED great players like tendulkar, you expect more but he has left lot to be desired for. Kapil dev once told that tendulkar is low in self-esteem (pees in his pants) and if he was talented like tendulkar, he would have rocked more!!!

hahahahha....Jumbo is a well known mouse outside sub-continent. apart from his debut series in england, the chap does not have heart to play outside sub-continent and leave a mark. he is the greatest pee-er! :P
NKC, I am not denying, india is not a good team. but against pakis, they are good only in papers. i hope more from recent youngsters like pathan and kaif though, but all others are scary crows (apart from dravid).
Once in an interview, someone asked why we lose so many close matches, in whose response tendulkar said, we are not aggressive enough. its our nature, not only of the team but of indians, in general. HE IS DEAD RIGHT!
This is for flips:
1) Wasim's Hat-trick!
Watch the second delivery from Wasim (lion heart) to chaminda
2) and this:
Arguably, the greatest ball ever bowled in cricket!!
3) and this one:
If i ever get a chance to be reborn as a cricketer, I would want to be wasim--Allan Border (Australia)
Woho flippy ..never knew that you have such a reverence for Pakis team. I thought pakis were your enemy from the birth. Well..India does have a good team but when it comes to delivering at the best, they lack some sort of commitment (they haven't won any trophy for a while now). Yeah, I also miss "ai go" behind the stumps..
Choro, I have never raised questions on their talents. It is just their illustrations of ill manner on the ground that makes me think over and over again. I reckon talent and manner should be synchronous in any field!
flippu, hajur le kun chai "their (pakis) illustrations of ill manner on the ground" ko kura garnu vako ?? When there are 13 players on the field along with 2 umpires, sometimes there can be a bit of clash of interest..that's the part of the game too.
flips, if you want to ENJOY the game, you've got to appreciate the talent and pakis have no dearth of it! they are a class side!!!!
regarding me being a mouse is concerned, well i am loote and will be for the rest of my life in sajha. :P . why do you want to compare me with the great players?? :P. just because i thrashed your fav team (full of mouse hearts) does not make ME a mouse. let me be loote now, will you? :P
I never said I do not appreciate talents! Martin Suji (from Kenya I suppose, been ages since I saw the last cricket match) was among one of the most wicket takers for his country during WCC '99, but did his success led his team to further?
Kosley bhanya cha they do not have class? Alik ankha jachau, I guess staring at the monitor all the time, degrading your eye sight! :)
Arrrgh I don’t believe them aussies took the trophy again! :@
“Sachin the biggest pee-ere†and “everyone in the Indian cricket team scary crows (cowards ??) except :O :O ahemmm Dravid( ???)†Yea rightt! i think someone here needs to go learn his “A-B-C-R-I-C-K-E-T†:D good luck!
Flips, I love to hate the Indian cricket team. but at the same time I have come to realize that no matter how much I or anyone for that matter tries, its impossible to refute the fact that sachin is without the slightest hints of doubt one of the best batsmen in the world cricket scenario today and perhaps will remain so for years to come. plus if he stops exposing his curls and bloating our ears with his awful voice on those TV commercials I might just consider calling myself his fan re k :p
Flips, it goes something like "yehi hai right choice baby.. aha!" please dont tell me you like his commercials!! AS for me i kind of sort of stopped drinking pepsi soon after he started to market it with those super out-of-shape glasses on his oval face with that blue uniform thingy on ( resembling the color pepsi ko can). LOL. aati guff bhayo. but sachins ad or not, i do prefer Coke to pepsi any given day. :D
and it begins - on Day 1 Trump will begin operations to deport millions of undocumented immigrants
