So, from previous threads here are the rankings for this year's ANA Basketball: 1. DC - the reigning champions 2. Dallas - the first runner up 3. Boston 4. New York Are there any other teams participating this year? What about the Bay Area team with the twins.

Sleepy, that was a tight game and the better team won...Kudos to both teams. BTW, still can't believe that the Suns did THAT well even with 2 of their stars out. I thought they'd get man-handled. Anyway, my team didn't even make the playoffs so it sucks to be me right now. :( :(. I'm rooting for the Cavs now...Whoever wins in the West, won't make a difference at all as the Cavs are gonna take it all this year! It was Wade's turn last year, now it's Le Bron's. Go Cavs! This is the lunar calendar year of the under-dogs!! LOL

Samsara i.e. Earth, I totally support us Nepali folks who love the sport but can't help noticing that we lack the height to be dunkin'.. Me thinks dunkin is an integral part of the sport and it's just not the same without it... Are you sure you can actually dunk?? I'v witnessed many nepali teams play but never seen a dunk. Even last yr there were people talkin thru their azz sayin they be dunkin but no nada dunkins eva took place.

Red Rooster, NO, I can't dunk...I'm saying that there will be someone who will dunk this year (according to Nostradamus's predictions. hahahaha). Hell, I can't even touch the rim anymore now (used to during high-school days). You're right, dunking is an integral part of the game, but I think fancy lay-ups or thunderous blocks could be a crowd pleaser too. BTW, Samsara literally means "to exist is to suffer." (as per Tibetan-Buddhist philosophy...Thats what I get for being a student of the "dismal science")

BTW I envision a Nepali basketball team in the future who would be so good that they will participate in the olympics. They would all be 5 foot or less and when they play with the other teams with 7 footers, they will be able to smoothly dribble they way from under their opponents legs. The 7 footers would not be able to bend down to the 5 foot dribbling levels so we can predict Nepals victory.

I dont know why people are so concerned about dunking. That is really a very small part of the game. What I would like to see is for one individual to seriously take over the game. And last but not least, I would like to make one point: why do all the teams play ZONE DEFENSE. This is not soccer, it is basketball... whenever your defense is not good enough, people play zone. I wish people would play man to man. It would be so much better.

Yeah I prefer man to man defense too. Zone defense can be easily broken by luring defenders out of their zones which is not that difficult to do.

No, its like a communist defense... they will not let one individual shine.. the zone defense is easy to break down if you are really good... especially the whole team can pass, move and shoot... its easy... BUT unfortunately, the ANA is not the NBA, the players cannot shoot all that well... It is a very weak way of playing. Its a disgrace. Its a way of saying to the opposing team, look guys we know we cant stop you MAN TO MAN so, as an alternative we ll just play zone and hope for the best that you guys miss some jumpers.

Sleep and Ballar, main thing here is the stamina needed. Man-to-man defense is extremely demanding in that aspect. Nearly all of us, ANA basket-ballers/soccer-players are weekend warriors who work/go to school during the weekdays. To bulid up stamina you need to either run/hit the gym/play ball everyday which is a time-constraint luxury the Neps here can't afford! Its no wonder, the zone D is whats played here as the most challenging part of running after the guard is split between all players. BTW, I hate zone defense like no tomorrow but contradicting myself, I'd do that too if I see my teammate's short on wind (that way, we could all help the guy from choking to death!). LOL Gotta do all there is to win and help out your teammates.

Yah I agree with you guys. That is definitely the reason people play zone. I just wished it was nt the case. Obviously, on offense, I would prefer to play against man to man defense. However, on the defensive end, I think I would rather play zone too.. lol.. It is just not very appeasing to the fans when people play zone. It really prevents players from putting on a show for everyone. Instead of the usual going by one guy then another help defender, as is the case against man to man defense. With the zone, you essentially need to go by the whole team to score.

Out of curiosity, why are we, Nepalis, in love with the 3 point??? That is all I seem to ever hear about, is 3 pointers. I think it is a shame, because the philosophy really stops teams and players from playing the more natural way. Instead of drives, mid-range jumpers, its too bad we prefer to just launch 3's with no regard. Its a shame that we do not put enough emphasis on assists, rebounds, blocked shots, steals, drives, mid/short range jump shots and taking charges. The reason I am saying this is because instead of players focusing on having an all around game, they worry about whether they can shoot three's. Especially the young players, they tend to work more on the 3 point game than anything else. Yah, against Nepalis it might work, but when the play street ball or any kind of pick up game, a lot of players look lost because they dont know what to do... Because after a few misses from the 3 point line, they will stop getting the ball..

My reason for shoooting 3's is to prevent injuries... i don't wanna get hurt driving in like stepping on someones foot n messing up my ankle or something.....its just ana its not like i get paid millions to play..its just for fun n to compete with other fellow nepalese....and its not always abt shooting 3's too....as a player thats my reason

I guess that makes sense. The only thing is, how can you play at a pace where you are holding back due to injury. Having messed my ankle up God knows how many times, I think the fear of injury usually eventually leads to injury. Look at Donovan McNabb's injury last year. Being a running qb, he could have been millions of times, but instead he gets injured when someone pushed him out of bounds. Well, like they say, different strokes for different folks.

That is too bad. Dallas is probably the favorite to unseat DC as the this year's champions. Big Ballar, are you 100% sure?

On the contrary, I dont think that the other teams are going to have it easy because Dallas is not attending. I hear they have lost their best players. So, I guess they just want to avoid an embarrassment. Smart move on their part. I am looking forward to more competitive teams.
