I was wondering why Prashant speaks in Nepali knowing very well that most Nepali speaking people understand hindi. He knows very well too that most people who understand hindi do not understand Nepali. So why would he speak Nepali in an Indian Idol contest? I think he is a shrewd artist to try to tap into the frail ego and tradition of Nepali misplaced nationalism. Remember Hritik episode? Instead of seeking votes as an artist, he has subtly tapped into the frail ego of Nepalis. This is huge since now it is a matter of ego for the people of Nepali origin and people of Nepal to prove to themselves that they can do it. It is no longer the race of who's a better singer, but more of if we the people of Nepal or Nepali origin and make this artist who asks for votes in Nepali, can make him win. The reality is he is an Indian by all means. Nepal does not benefit in any way. It's our history of failure in our socio-politics spheres that have created this frail ego for us Nepalis. We have to try to prove that we are good because we know we're a failed state. Let's not be bhedas willing to be led by some shrewd politician or for that matter anyone, who taps into our misplaced nationalistic feelings which is higher than mount everest. If Prashant wins, will he come to Nepal for a concert? Will he acknowledge the efforts of the people of Nepal and Nepali origin to make him win? Or will be bask in the glory of his win and think that he won because of his talent and not because of his Nepali origin? That's something to ponder about.

my oh my mave...where do i even start from? hehe..after all the things i said yesterday and your rebuttal, i am scratching my head in disbelief. Wow! :D either what i wrote didn't convey what i wanted to. or you misunderstood me completely. or a bit of both -------- Nevertheless, its the same thing, over hyped patrotism for wrong purpose. over hyped patriotism for wrong reasons? explain me please, what's WRONG in supporting whom one wants to? nobody is forcing their issue to anyone here. no one is throwing stones at cops/mobs like they did in the upheaval of hrithik roshan issue. how's voting for prashant wrong? please throw some light. i vote for X, you vote for Z. you have your own reasons and i have mine. you are right and i am wrong? c'mon now! you can do better than that. but we still can sail along together, can't we my friend? :D and when did i say prashant is a national symbol of peace/unity? where? i just said his case is a little different than of a normal contestant of indian idol because he hails form a land of minor community and since he is a nepali, he was able to draw attention of nepalese across the globe for various reasons, one of them may be the 'anti india sentiment' as you pointed out (i don't deny). i never said he was a national symbol yada yada...but his cause (music) helped nepali around the globe to come together and act accordingly for one cause--vote/support for a fellow nepali who's had a rather overshadowed or if i may say the word--suppressed-- life as a minor in a big country like india. nepalese who identify themselves with his story wants to contribute to his success/achievements. what's wrong in that? i, personally give credit to his talent and popularity for his success thus far. others may have personal ageda--venom against india and so on (again i don't deny but i will rationalize their plight too in a while). but at the end of the day, it's a nepali who's making it big in an indian platform. if you don't see it, okay. if you don't want to appreciate it, fine. as always, i respect everyone's decisions and we still can sail along together, can't we my friend? :D Woah man, milllions is a big word. One million has 10 lakhs, I wonder how many people actually watch sony tv.. Ktm alone has 2 millions nepali. PKR and other major cities together have more than a million for sure ....then hk/singapore/uk/us nepalese, add them all...i read the other day from a site that II has been able to draw more viewers than any other shows in nepal due to various reasons--one and major being prashant. okay may be millions is a bit too stretched a number in this case..but i can tell you it's pretty close. Yup dude, you didnt denigrate, consiously. You were actually saying that supporting prashant is supporting Nepal( ur highest hierarchy),which means that u are alluding Prashant-not-supporting crowd as Unpatriotic. so what is this 'MY highest hierarchy' thing? isn't nepal your first form of recognition too or you too a second citizen of nepal ? and let me make this clear to you and to those who think likewise. i never said a nepali must vote for prashant as a tribute to their nationality neither i tried to imply that one who does not do so is a traitor. reasons for my personal preference for prashant over other contestants apart, i also see why so many people are backing this guy up. let me explain it to you. if you already know this, fine. it may be interesting to few others: i don't think anyone, who is voting for prashant purely because he is a nepali guy, is being a racist. i see this as a repercussion to racism. the plight of nepali in northeast india is similar to that of dalits/women/janajati and other suppressed communities which has been tagged by the so-called upper-cast people from rural/unaware society as low cast/gender. this again raises the question of equal opportunity. if prashant and numerous other nepalese residing in india as second class citizens had had their share of basic requirements and access to all other facilities that the so-called higher class people or people-with-power had or for that matter some other contestants of the show had, i am sure we wouldn't have been seeing this guy being voted blindly by the nepali community in india. for many indians, nepali are still no better than 'gorkhay and bhadurs'. on a similar note, if a madhesi comes as a participant for nepali idol, hell, those madhesis will blindly go gaga over him as well. :D where does this hindi came from?? If speaking nepali made him Nepali, then speaking, urdu or hindi in nepal make people Indian and Pakistani?? My muslim fren gonna get pissed at u dude!!! LOL! i didn't say that or did i? man, you should have been a conspiracy theorist. you have a pretty good scope there as i see. :P. i was only answering to ratobhaley's query of why prashant speaks in nepali. again i am not saying, just because one speaks in nepali, he's more respect for nepal. prashant speaks nepali because he's a nepali. he may speak in hindi or other languages...that doesn't negate the fact that he is a nepali.

Hehe there is no point trying to bruise the already frail Nepali ego. Let them have their hero. Let them spend their energy to make Prashant win so that their ego gets a boost. Nothing wrong with that at all. I just hope that during this Nepali national ego boosting process, the other frail ego ie the fragile ego of the indians do not get bruised. It would be a shame if the billion population of India got together to vote for Prashant's competition who alas is not banking on his Nepali origin

i Rato Bhaley, Thanks for ur post. To be honest, I don't read much into his wanting to speak Nepali. However, I agree that this act has indeed tapped Nepali ego and misplaced nationalism. I too think that his focus is more towards voting mechanism than on singing and that could prove fatal. Based on a particular community's vote, he certainly cannot hope to win this contest...somebody please tell him that HE NEEDS TO PERFORM. Yes, he is an Indian by all means. This is precisely what he forgot while talking in Nepali and projecting himself as one. And this could backfire as the non-Nepalese speaking Indians might just look at it as a very communal thing. In contrast, look at Amit Paul (notwithstanding his tremendous singing capability), he has been able to present himself in a very cosmopolitan manner...what with singing in a number of Indian languages, including Nepali. In all these months on Indian Idol...only once did he speak in Bangla (language for Bengalis) when he was to dedicate a song to his grandmother...the last episode i guess, 'gustakh dil....' Perhaps, I don't have answers to all ur questions or maybe I don't want to answer them but I must say, they are all very valid questions and hope somebody will definitely send replies to them. In the end, since talent is what we are talking about...LET THE BEST MAN WIN!!! Well, now....that's anybody's guess! Thanks. Also, I dont' mean to offend anybody, please!!

i can't figure out why deep's devnagari script comments were taken off from another thread but here is the reply to that: i Deep, I like the way u write. anyways, i had a thing or two to say. true...bange le aafu bangali bhane pani bhartiya hune bhane nepali le pani nepali bhane bhartiya hunu parchha. desi haru ko kura garda nepal ka nepali le sara bhartiya haru lai desi, dhoti, kaalel, madhesi (and all those names that r used to call indians) bhanera bolauna milchha bhane bhartiya nepali (for eg. our dear mr. prashant tamang) haru lai kina tyahi naam le bolauna na milne...r they not indians enough? however, you do talk a lot of sense...at the end of the day, it's to be remembered that he is participating in "Indian Idol" and not "Nepali Idol". Perhaps, Kolkata/Bengal Police is less communal that they still chose to vote for Prashant instead of Emon who is a local boy from Kolkata, and a Bengali. Have a good day. I am sorry if I hurt you in any manner.

"LooTeKuKuR: he may be indian in paper (passport) but his blood is nepali. it may be just that his ancestors at some point in the past migrated to darjeeling...even darjeeling was in nepal not so long ago for that matter." this is where lack of knowledge in history comes in. Darjeeling was NEVER part of Nepal...it's mere wishful thinking on part of illiterate Nepalis! a friend once told me if Nepal had Darjeeling, Nepal would be a developed country. He obviously didn't like what I told him but here it is: "I am not too sure if Nepal would be a developed country by having Darjeeling but Darjeeling would certainly become PAAKHE NATION under Nepal." It's just that a lot of Nepali people migrated to Darjeeling and other states in India notably Assam during the British regime to work as labourers and tea plantation workers. I wouldn't wonder if tomorrow you start claiming Assam too as part of your greater Nepal...and then Sikkim and Dehradun and so on. It's a long list! You might as well claim every part of India wherever people of Nepali origin reside to be amalgamated with Nepal. Now...is that a fair proposition we are looking at! think about it!! It's sheer greatness on India's part that it is not biased towards any community...most of the times. Talking about people of Nepali origin...you have bhaichung bhutia and sunil chhetri playing for indian national soccer team, you had another chhetri gentleman who was the indian hockey goalkeeper in the '80s, you have udit narayan and manisha koirala eeking out successful careers in bollywood. colonel lalit rai winning a major bravery award for kargil war, and now prashant making himself proud at indian idol...not to mention hundreds of thousands of nepali-speaking people who have done well be it in the armed forces, music and entertainment, corporate sector...you name it! all these people are successful not because they are of Nepali origin but because they had the talent and potential to be so. If you know a little about India...you would realize that India became a nation by default because of the British regime. A lot of persians migrated from present day Iran hundreds of years ago. Sindhis migrated from Pakistan during the partition of India. Hindu Bengalis migrated from present day Bangladesh during India's partition as it became East Pakistan. All these people are no less Indians than any others. The same goes for people of Nepalese origin. Yes, they speak Nepali at home but it's just a language we are talking about! In India, an opportunity cannot be provided to a Nepali speaking person because he is so. At the same time, an opportunity will not be denied to him because he speaks Nepali. It's merit, talent, contacts and above all...destiny! To end it all, I can understand people of Darjeeling supporting Prashant because he is a local but people from Nepal supporting him makes no sense at all! Prashant has no connection with Nepal and vice versa. Ask him about Nepal and he will draw a blank! All I can request is...let the Nepali-speaking people in India live in peace and not help attract hatred for them from other communities in India. That's the last thing that they ask for! You insult the people of Darjeeling by calling them 'Chhiattare (76)', characterless and what not. But just remember, they don't say any wrong to you people. For them, YOU DON'T EVEN EXIST'. Okay, peace!!

Stupendous, I totally agree with you. I also don't think its quite right to promote him as representing Nepal/Nepali nationalism. He was born and raised in India, and is a citizen of India. He, in no way, represents Nepal. (And this is my opinion. Feel free to disagree.) However, nationalism is very difficult to define. Nepalis tend to be nationalists because we are a small nation, and we are led to believe that India is to be blamed for all that happens in Nepal. So when we see a contestant in a popular Indian TV show who speaks owr language and who looks like us, we go out of our way to support him not because he is talented, but becuase, we assume that his winning the contest translates into Nepal victory over India, and mistakenly, we believe that it will enhance our prestige and reputation as a nation. To us its like beating them at their own game. To sum up, what we are consiously or unconsiously expressing is our own insecurity vis-a-vis India. And again, this is what I think and I could be way off. Please note: Its not my intention to hurt those who support Prashant. Commenting on nationalism is quite difficult thing to do, even for the students of political science. There could be thousands of reasons to vote for Prashant, and I don't claim to know them all. What I wrote above reflects my views as a student of Politics and International Relations. That's all.

. for me Prasanta Tamang happening looks like another Qazi Tauqeer (the Kashmiri) experiment. Qazi was pulled up as many as 11 times from the danger zone in similar musical program hosted by sony television, india. I don’t think that happened just like that. RAW, the Indian intelligence agency & the one and only vampire in south asia which trained many killers in the region including LTTE and pkd gang, wanted to divert the mindset of kashmiri kiddos....perhaps....but, given the India in south asia I know, im sure on my supposition. RAW’s motive could have been to redirect Kashmir youngsters into Indian mainstream.
This time RAW would like to gain some mileage out of II to ease out its special agenda-the objective to fuse the Himalayan kingdom of Nepal within india. It intends to do so by giving the messages to the young Nepali faction, home and abroad, “look how great India is...one nepali can reach to this stage..an Indian idol’’.
But how??? Well ...considering the fact that Bengali population is at least five times bigger than Nepali and the sensation the common Indians hold for a Gorkha (Nepali), nobody believes that Pransanta would have pulled more votes than Emon. Its simple. Nepali cant outnumber Emon’s Bengali/indian vote size. So if RAW could manipulate the earlier rounds it can do again...surely it will do that. However, its not that easy this time. RAW has catch22 situation; the reason is Amit Paul, the local kiddo from Northeast India- the region which remains unconsolidated in the political map of modern day india. was there any country such as india before 47 btw??????
I have been following news from northeast india based portals (http://inwww.rediff.com/newshound/mg.html, http://www.theshillongtimes.com/), target=_blank>http://www.nenanews.com/, http://www.theshillongtimes.com/), and most of them have one thing or two on Amit Paul. Similar to the one in Darjeeling, people went crazy in Shilong, Amit’s hometown, when he went there after reaching the II final. The local government was/is also found to be supportive for him. Besides, it seems, he is getting support from all parts of that India, where many indigenous groups have been fighting for independence since 47. The whole scenes appeared/appear unusual, unprecedented, and the one RAW would dare pass in vain. It simply cant ignore this gesture from tribal, who fought for independence since 47 and who are at this moment tired of the war for sure. Therefore, RAW will like to use this moment to strengthen India’s position in the region, which is completely different to the India we know.
I would love to see how II would be fixed this time. Its my personal supposition though.
PS: I have good wishes for Mr. P. Tamang. Last edited: 13-Sep-07 02:36 AM

I haven't read all messages though. I can just say that we all are trying to feel good because i guess nobody including me has been able to generate such kind of attention, unity and support ( whether it's nationalistic or racist) like prashant. if there is popularity, there comes supporters and critics. there is nothing wrong in talking about his +s and -ves. It makes me think that what would i do if i was in prashan't shoes. Looking at him and his interviews, i can say that he relates himself to normal average person and feel nepali inside. It doesn't matter to him wherever he lives. It makes me think that are we trying to satisfy our ego, jealousy or is it our knowledge of freedom of speech that is creating all this -veitivity about him..

I was actually thinking about not posting any further on this thread as per the fact that neither have I any factual data to prove my views nor the unconscious racism can be shown on graph. So here we (ya both) are dealing with truthiness ( Stephen Colbert’s word for the truth from the guts, ‘smthing’ that feels right). But since you label me as a conspiracy theorist, so let me scrutinize ur writing just for the sake of scrutinizing.
over hyped patriotism for wrong reasons? explain me please, what's WRONG in supporting whom one wants to? Nobody disagrees with you for your choice. But it has become much more than the “likeness†or the “supportâ€. This has been a kind of hysteria as if he is fighting alone in all out war for Nepal.
nobody is forcing their issue to anyone here. Well, you may not be using imperative or assertive languages, but certainly others are doing it. But the gist of what ever u have wrote till now has some degree of “coercion†in it.
no one is throwing stones at cops/mobs like they did in the upheaval of hrithik roshan issue. how's voting for prashant wrong? please throw some light. i vote for X, you vote for Z. you have your own reasons and i have mine. you are right and i am wrong? c'mon now! you can do better than that. but we still can sail along together, can't we my friend? :D I am not saying to you that do not vote this guy. That’s ur personal choice. But, if you vote him because u have some “sense of commonalityâ€, then I have to disapprove with the reason.
and when did i say prashant is a national symbol of peace/unity? Then you tell me what is mean by “ because of him, we all global Nepalese have come together for a causeâ€. You explain me Hunk.
i just said his case is a little different than of a normal contestant of indian idol because he hails form a land of minor community and since he is a nepali, he was able to draw attention of nepalese across the globe for various reasons, one of them may be the 'anti india sentiment' as you pointed out (i don't deny). i never said he was a national symbol yada yada...but his cause (music) helped nepali around the globe to come together and act accordingly for one cause--vote/support for a fellow nepali who's had a rather overshadowed or if i may say the word--suppressed-- life as a minor in a big country like india. nepalese who identify themselves with his story wants to contribute to his success/achievements. what's wrong in that? i, personally give credit to his talent and popularity for his success thus far. others may have personal ageda--venom against india and so on (again i don't deny but i will rationalize their plight too in a while). but at the end of the day, it's a nepali who's making it big in an indian platform. if you don't see it, okay. if you don't want to appreciate it, fine. as always, i respect everyone's decisions and we still can sail along together, can't we my friend? :D If you were to support a nepali flag bearing team , then I would have agreed with your point but in this scenario I won’t. There are two reasons for that: 1. First of all, any kind of racism, whether it is an inter-race or intra-race shouldn’t be tolerated. When you saying that “sense of commonality†then, what are you showing to the minorities in your very country is that, ‘we would support anybody who has such “commonality†even though his talent is well questioned. In other words, he is mine, others are not. How it feels to live in your country and still feel abominated? Isn’t this the same scenario of Darjeeling Nepalese and Indian muslim who has been, after years of living in India, facing the hatred for them being from different origin or having different culture? Its the same "sense of commonality", my friend. You are all eager to blame Indians for not voting Prashant becoz he is Nepalese, but won’t accept the fact that you are doing the same. 2. In this competition, you are just not the supporter, but also the judge. Judging by the “sense of commonality†is biased in any standard of judgment.
I don’t have any statistic, as I mentioned earlier. So, let’s say your Guess is right.
so what is this 'MY highest hierarchy' thing? isn't nepal your first form of recognition too or you too a second citizen of nepal ? I certainly know it’s mine but I absolutely doubt of Prashant (whom “YOU†are vehemently and vocally supporting). You can give me any excerpt from anywhere, where “YOUR†Prashant put Nepal on his highest hierarchy. You may even ask why he should have. Well ….
and let me make this clear to you and to those who think likewise. i never said a nepali must vote for prashant as a tribute to their nationality neither i tried to imply that one who does not do so is a traitor. reasons for my personal preference for prashant over other contestants apart, i also see why so many people are backing this guy up. let me explain it to you. if you already know this, fine. it may be interesting to few others: We all know man, the impacts of the words and writings can be utter different than the meaning. So, you better read ur own writing and come back .Then start writing these same lines. I don’t think you will feel right.
i don't think anyone, who is voting for prashant purely because he is a nepali guy, is being a racist. i see this as a repercussion to racism. the plight of nepali in northeast india is similar to that of dalits/women/janajati and other suppressed communities which has been tagged by the so-called upper-cast people from rural/unaware society as low cast/gender. this again raises the question of equal opportunity. if prashant and numerous other nepalese residing in india as second class citizens had had their share of basic requirements and access to all other facilities that the so-called higher class people or people-with-power had or for that matter some other contestants of the show had, i am sure we wouldn't have been seeing this guy being voted blindly by the nepali community in india. for many indians, nepali are still no better than 'gorkhay and bhadurs'. on a similar note, if a madhesi comes as a participant for nepali idol, hell, those madhesis will blindly go gaga over him as well. :D
Well, if its really any fight back, then why not starting from our own country. I haven’t seen even couple of threads in this sajha for these issues. I really feel bad about the Nepalese who talk about racism, when they do it themselves, whether inter-cultural or intra cultural. If you wanna discuss on this issue, then I surely can. BTw, did you just say,"hell those madhesi" . I don't wanna dwell on that other wise I would be label as super conspiracy theorist.
LOL! i didn't say that or did i? man, you should have been a conspiracy theorist. you have a pretty good scope there as i see. :P. i was only answering to ratobhaley's query of why prashant speaks in nepali.
I clearly understood what you said. You meant, he is form Nepali origin, that’s why he is speaking nepali. So, it’s not surprising. That’s what you said right?? If I am wrong you can sue me. And what I meant to say: Just because he speaks Nepali, doesn’t mean he loves Nepal. As ratobhale said, it may just be a plot to garner some hysteric votes.

What's wrong in supporting Prashant? He is a good singer.Even without training,he sang well.He has a charming personality,he can entertain mass, has a good voice. Amit Paul is good too maybe better but Prashant is no less either.Yes,he is an indian but he is from Nepali origin. My kids are born here in US but still they look like nepali, speak nepali and have a nepali root.Evenif they r americans, they'll always be nepali americans or moreover asian americans. But they'll always have some contacts with Nepal or Nepali.Prashant is the same. Why can't we just support our people whereever they r when they r trying to make it big.Ofcouse without any talent,he wouldn't have reached where he has today.and looks like audiences and even judges like his voice. What's wrong in supporting him?Your one vote counts. But nobody is forcing you.If u feel he is not good enough then that's fine. But u guys don't have to make a big issue out of everything. But I feel Prashant deserves vote from we Neplease whereever we r n this world in whatever form we r. I'v never voted for Prashant coz I didn't know but this time,I'll try to vote for him. Amen

bideshi: very well put! But i hope got the very shallow jist of some. To be proclaimed a Nepali you HAVE to be born in Nepal. I lived in Nepal for 10 years, I am Nepali but did not have Nepali citizenship but there were PLENTY of INDIAN-looking INDIANS who were buying citizenships or had citizenships. HECK...if you go to BIshal Bazar now...you will have to speak in HINDI or MARWARI to get a good price on most things. Come to Darjeeling, once you are in Siliguri...they all better speak Nepali and thats how we live...by our language...our culture...our heritage. If you want to do business in Darjeeling District...you BETTER speak Nepali. All of you who are married, have children outside of Nepal, those of you who are contemplating making your lives outside of Nepal, even those of you who were born elsewhere but are of Nepali origin - welcome to our club...the club of misplaced nationalism - the club of the outside insiders. LOL...Lets all talk in about ummmm 80 years?? HYAAAAAAA kurai nabujney harulai k bujauney... BASK IN YOUR GLORIES OF JUST BEING BORN IN NEPAL. Anta ma....garyo hamro GORKHEY leyyyyy nepali ma gaayra......bujnu bhayo hola ni hai sabai ley tyo geet ta...ki aleek garho paryo? parwatey ta sabailey bujdaina po ta..bhuleychu...tara HINDI ta sabailey bujcha hai...nepal ma sabai jana HIIIINDI hunu kai hahakaaar - if you dun believe me..just attend a wedding ceremony!!!heheh kaha ko damai baja haru..ahiley ta sabailey mehendi rasam garcha! hahahha makes me ROTFLMAO!!!!! Darjeeling ma garyo bhaney ta sabai manchey ley khisi garcha - HINDI BHAYO BHANERA!!!!!! Let me stop my ranting right here lest I get verbally molested or lest I bheja khawus most of you. kewallllllll timro yaad ma.....

For your pool of thoughts, I have only one answer for you answer bhaley: He is not a nepali citizen but his mother tongue is nepali. He lives in india but represents Nepal as we live abroad and represent Nepal. Why dont we smile at his success and help him if we can?

Most of us, Nepalis, love Prashant as our own brother/son whether he is technically a Nepali or not. We support him, we vote for him, we raise money for him in our own capacity, for our own fulfillment. If anyone has problems, go do some better work for Nepal or hit your head on the wall till you die. What the heck? btw stupendous's comments caught my attention. I don't disagree with all the points he has put forth. But there are some genuine factual flaws. ' It's sheer greatness on India's part that it is not biased towards any community' Oh really? Tell this to the Dalits, the Nagas, the 1970s Punjabis, the Biharis, the Kashmiris, the Muslims living in Gujrat and the hundreds of sub-classes and communities in India. Biases, classism, castism, racism, sexism is more rampant in India than anywhere else in the world.Of course the central government has tried to improve the situation, but it is decades if not centuries away from achieving that sheer greatness you eulogized. The biases that we see in Nepal is partly infact the spill over from India. The sole reason that Nepalis are united for Prashant is the bad treatment Nepal and Nepalis have been getting from and in India. I don't say it is a proper remedy but it does content the human emotions within us.
Nepalis have their own deficiencies but India has played directly and more indirectly to negate the course of our political and economic progress. Had their not been too much Indian interference, we would have been a stable and prosperous nation by now.
'Prashant has no connection with Nepal and vice versa...For them, YOU DON'T EVEN EXIST'.' You are blatantly naive. Read this piece from an article by Harka Gurung.
'...the future of Nepali society can be conjectured by looking east, at the social dynamism of the Nepali-speakers across the Mechi. While the pandits under the Muluki Ain regime in Nepal busied themselves with rituals and sycophancy, the Nepali-speaking population across the Mechi river showed the path to genuine Nepali nationalism: Darjeeling’s Gyawali and Kalimpong’s Chemjong in history, Darjeeling’s Koirala and Kalimpong’s Pradhan in language, Kalimpong’s Gurung and Subba in politics, and so on.' http://www.himalmag.com/march2001/essay.html
'Darjeeling was NEVER part of Nepal'
Yes it was, to be factually correct. The territories extended to the Tista river which flows through Darjeeling. This fact has nothing to do with the political boundry of modern Nepal but this does rectify your misconception about history.
