I had promised that I was going to start my own thread regarding stock investments and the markets. So many things have happened since last time I was here and I really do not feel like sharing my knowledge. But a promise is a promise and there have been few people that have emailed me and supported me.

This thread will deal with investing in the stock markets. I will not discuss individual stocks but discuss ETFs like SPY, DIA, IWM and QQQQ. The one good thing about trading ETFs compared to individual stocks is the the ETFs provide instant diversification among similar companies within the same sector.

I will post more as we go along, regarding entry-price, profit-target and stop-losses. I do not think that any ETF is good or bad. It is good only if I'm making money and bad if I'm losig money.

If you have not been in the market so far, please read this as an information piece only rather than my recommendations. There is risk involved and you should know how much risk to take on any position.

Any suggestations, comments and criticisms are welcome as long as it is market related. If this thread gets out of hand and we start discussing off-topics, I'll stop posting.

i wont be surprised if there is huge selling tomorow at market open.

Visa will likely rescue the indexes at end of close tomorow.

Wow!!!  Holy Moly Dow 420 up. All financials up more than 5%  same as most of the Tech. Finacial stock are showing some strength here, Is it a good time to get in ? Is this a bottom or there is still more to come? I am thinking to get some C or BAC.

Visa is coming out tomorrow. What do you all think ? Is it good to get in now or wait for sometime see which direction it goes north south or sideways. Couldn't get IPO too many requirements :(

 

  

Latoboy- By the way what make you think that there will be major sell off tomorrow? Any reports coming out tomorrow?? Just being curious. I am seeing red in my portfolio since too long. Can't handle anymore.

Team Player, i thought there would be some major selling offs but it doesnt look like it will be today.. because Morgan stanley reported better than expected results this morning. (still they learnt much less than last year same time) i still think there will atleast be some selling offs by next week... it might not be soo deep as the last one but still.

wow just made 14% in 2 days buying Visa and sold it today for $64

dont be too excited. dont hold to your positions too long especially for IPOs. But congrats!!!

Nice little rally this morning. Had a limit order placed last week that got picked up by the rally. Got out with good returns (mostly tech). Staying out/holding the rest  for the next couple of weeks.

captain haddock.. what did you buy ? Visa ?? i hope not because it is down 5% for today.

i bought some financials today.. and probably sell it within this week..... Get in and then get out fast..thats my strategy with financials. Im going Long commodities. Gold and Oil.

I didn't buy, I sold. Some ETFs and tech stocks I had  (including ESPP shares). I am not big into trading these days. Am only holding onto a few  longs in biotech and  renewable energy.

all my commodities are down today.. except for Crude Oil. overall my portfolio is Red (negative).

Im betting that Gold will bounce back in the near future.. hopefully im correct.

It's good to see this thread going but I do not understand why anyone wants to sell stocks here. I'm playing from the long side only till we get to 1420.

i sold all my financials... im only holding commodidites now.. have Gold, Silver, Crude Oil. All doing fairly decent today. im back in positive territory... 

Emini what are your thoughts on commodities ? do you see another rally coming up for Gold ? i think so yes.

What do you guys think of Solars stocks.

I've been investing in solar stocks recently. These stocks are bargain !!!I have a SOLF earning due on 3/27, is already up 20% today alone.I'm betting another 10-20% rise tomorrow and I'm out.I know earning will be very good but these solar stocks are day traders friendly so expecting short squeeze.

I have JASO, LDK, SOL. What do guys think of these. Should I sale these now or go long on these.

 

solar stocks i think is good for long term... they wont give you return this year or maybe even next year... if u have 5 or 10 year horizon its definately good choice.

i personally am not an Invester. Im a low risk Smart Gambler... hehehe...

i do plan to do some long term investments starting sometime next year.

guys read my post on 3/24/2008 ... i saiid i was betting Gold price will increase in near future.. and i cant believe it... it increased today.. it will increase tomorow .. probably this whole week it will be on uptrend. i sold my gold position near the high 2 weeks ago and then bought it yesterday at a lower end and today its up like 3%....   awesome... 

This is a daytrader/swingtrader's market. Sell above a 13 dma w/ 1 std. dev. bollinger band and buy below it. This market is trying to find a direction.

Closed out of the longs. Day trading few days a week.....
