whatmore---well, sure, everyone is free to invent their own conventions... just that i thought i made it clear what the standard RSS is supposed to be, since you seemed to misinform the public by its incorrect reference.... sure, you dont have to follow it... in fact, not that you'd want to, but you could have your own programming language, too :-)

but the catch is that there are laws in place that keep people from doing certain things... well, but then you might say, "so what, mr. subedi is creative and doesnt care!"... well, then i got nothing to say! in jest...

i, for one, view law not as definitive but very malleable. open to interpretation. if it is hard, it will break, you dig? :-)

that said, personally i would not to want to put myself on the wrong side of the law without sufficient resources at my disposal. but if nobody finds out, or if somebody finds out and i'm small and they don't care...i'll take advantage. not necessarily always, but whenever i want to.

besides, something that is legal need not be right, and vice-versa. if forced to make the choice, i would rather be right than legit. if not forced, well, [smirk], i will just be meself - utterly selfish and completely ignorant.

i am laughing too. hahahahhahahahahahha

Guys,

Attorney, Mr Khagendra Chettry has interviewed with Radio Dovaan about US Immigration law, how to get your green card. Please visit http://www.radiodovaan.com and click on 11/27/05

This will be helpful for you, if not for you probably be your relatives or friends.

whatmore-ji!

i know! it's getting really funny. i don't know him, but i have a feeling mr. subedi is a funny guy for having been able to drag this discussing this long with an apparently dogmatic approach! :-)

i think that the general concept of right vs. legal is too abstract and i agree that a "legal" way can often be "wrong" and "unjust"... you have a point.

however, if all parties agree to follow a common set of norms (like people here on this forum originally seemed to) that defines what is right and what is wrong (in this case, apparently, the copyright laws and the journalistic code), then i think the arguments can be conclusive. but if one is to say that those norms aren't fair and s/he will not adhere to those, then the whole debate is useless and nobody is right or wrong... and i suspect that's what has become of this conversation... inconclusive, because there is no shared understanding of the terms...

keep it coming! :-)

nice one Echoes.

but what about change? are the norms you talk about immutable? if so, then natural selection is going to make sure it is just annihilated. if not, then isn't this bending and reinterpreting what evolution is all about?

Echoes,

I was trying to give ppls news about Nepal (Mandela refused to meet with our King), update news, all of the sudden someone complained that I did copy right from other source. They did not even think that other source might have copied our news and pasted. Since then we have been draging this entire conversation on and on and on. I do not mind on discussing but some ppls were there to use nasty words on the public forum which was really unacceptable. Thats why my concern came aggressively.

Look guys this my volunteer service for the community. I am not getting anything out of it. I have been trying to give things out there.

certainly mutable...isn't this thread evident of it!

and some may argue (not me!) that the law of the land is the survivor of such an evolution with all its variants died out :-)

Guys

I have nothing more to say ! just want to request, please please think before you complain and bring a Legitimate issue/views, which can help others. Dont use nasty words, that does not help you at all. Discussion can be anywhere with an any issue. Even congress man, senetors, leaders discuss / disagree on the issues, that does not means you use bad words in public places. This tells you that you are a streeeeeeeeeeeet man, got no background....which will not help you at all.

rsubedi, whoever you're addressing it to, I think that that's probably the sickest attitude one can have. People like you who think that one must have a so called "background", and that one must not be allowed to work her/his way up from the so called "street" are the reason why Nepal is where it is. This clearly shows what you stand for.

I can't believe that someone who holds such strong condescending views as yours is allowed as a broadcaster. I personally think that you should be fired. Sorry.

Echoes,

Of course, you & Joe are using such a word like ?fk, bonehead etc? what does it mean by? First of all you are disrespecting SAJHA.COM, second thing you are using those words in the public forum. This proved that you are uncivilized person who have no background acting like ?Street Man?

You should come with your full name if you want to discuss here. Why are you using fake name?. This also proved that you want to cheat with ppls.

You said because of us, our country has not been developed? First of all I have left Nepal 13 years ago. Second thing that, this is not a logical answer, you have given. You need to come up with solid vision in order to develop the nation.

I wrote earlier that RSubedi's effort to post that news item could well be shrugged off
as a small, if clumsy act, and leave it at that.

I am not sure why some people here are splitting hairs and are being so harsh toward him. For the record, I do NOT know who RSubedi is; so I have nothing to gain by buttering him up.

But in the interest of this kurakani, let me explain my reasoning:

I base my points on two issues related to plagiarists and plagiarism:

a) public attention and
b) ownership of the produced materials.

It's conceivable that, in general, a plagiarist is NOT likely to draw public attention to the
work s/he has produced. [It's probably true that those who publish plagiarized books
are far fewer in numbers than those who submit plagiarized papers in schools and colleges.].

So: It's conceivable that, in general, a plagiarist is NOT likely to draw public attention to the work s/he has produced.

Why?

Because doing so would increase the possibility of his/her work being exposed as a
fake.

A plagiarist, then, would produce the work by copying/stealing/borrowing others' ideas without attribution, expect to to slip by, and enjoy the credit quietly.

BUT RSubedi's behaviour here is just the OPPOSITE.

He actually draws public attention to the fact that he has posted such and such news on that Web site, and invites people to take a look at that piece of news.

Had he been a plagiarist, he would not have done that, would he? I mean, why would anyone draw attentiion to some work only to be exposed as a plagiarist? This does not make sense.

***

Second, a plagiarist uses other people's ideas as his/her own.

In Subedi's case, his disclaimer AT THE VERY LEAST leaves NO DOUBT that all he did
was COLLECT those news items from all over the place.

Sure, one could argue that the disclaimer is INADEQUATE in a strictly academic sense. Fine.

BUT, even after allowingh for that inadequacy, let's be honest enough to admit that the disclaimer was ADEQUATE for any of his readers to conclude/deduce that Subedi
himself did NOT claim that he wrote those up himself. This much is clear. A plagiarist would claim ownership, which Subedi does not.

So, if Subedi is indeed a plagiarist, as some have claimed here, then, he would be a strange kind of a plagiarist: Someone who draws public attention for the work he says he collected from other sources.

Like I said, it's one thing to characterise his work as a clumsy effort, and ask him to post the Web links of the articles he collects. But he does NOT appear to deserve the kind of gaali he's been getting here . . . on the basis of what he posted on his Web site.

Ashu,

I am not drawing public attention here nor I have copied the news from outside and pasted on our web site. We make our own news. If we get from other source, we put it at the bottom. You can look that. Other medias may have done from ours. I am not getting anything benifit out of here. Just trying to explain to those ppls.

All you guys are quarrelling over unnecessary issue. Discussion on this thread would be more interesting if people stop picking on RSubedi for not quoting the source. Issue here is, "Did Mandela really refuse to meet KG?"

What will be the impact of his refusal? Somebody mentioned that this was a good news. I want to know why it is good news? Wouldn't it be nicer if Mandela had met KG and discussed about the issue, even though there was not much that Mandela could do for Nepal. Tomorrow, Bush may refuse to see KG? Hearing this type of news certainly gives us pleasure for a moment, but avoiding him by big international figures is not ultimate solution, I guess.

As the matter of fact, I would never know this news if Mr. R. Subedi didn't post it on his website. He did a great job by collecting news from different medias, however, as people blammed, he failed to quote the source of that news. If he confesses his mistake, he should simply write down the source of these news or at least give a link of those sources at the end. Good luck!

For someone who is doing this as a public service, mr subedi has wrong attitude.

It's like i'm doing a great service to the public, you better take what i give you, if you don't like what i'm doing then you come from the street with no background.
