I can’t believe that tragedy of Arlington TX, I don’t know what was Shekar dream to bring back home Nepal like we have, but we can’t blame to any Nepalese youngster that not to come US for undergraduate. Whatever happened it was accident, we are here struggling in US for better life. I don’t think so we would be here, if the country is just peace. Work is work…we gotta do no matter how rich you are back home. I only have suggestion to everyone that stay out of trouble.

May the almighty bestow upon the family members strength to bear this irreparable loss.

Its time for us to act in support (financial) of the family of Shekhar at this tragic moment. How about creating online donation in either Sajha or in NST website itself? so that his body can be sent home for cremation.

Just a thought..

my heartfelt condolence to shekher and his family.

====================================================
for all of us who used to work and/or still work in dangerous sub-/urban area of US.
It is a nightmare that we have to deal with.
I pray to god all the time that no one would have to go through these incidents and experience in their life.
These incidents does leave a big scar on people. Personally, i feel that "Living after these brutal incidents is more horrific". i have not been able to get over couple of these incident that occurred early in my life. Too many issues...........
=====================================================

my personal experience has led me to say following about hold ups or during robbery:

1. give them all the money and everything they want
2. DO NOT TRY TO BE HERO. TRY TO STAY CALM. FORGET ABOUT THE PANIC BUTTON.
3. Please make sure that you have key to the register with/on the register. Just in case "NOSALE" does not open the register there is a key to open it.
4. Most of the time these robbers are only there for money so as long as they get the money then they would get going.
5. If you cannot open the register, then tell them that and give them the change box.[i.e. money in the change box]. All convenience stores have one.
6. REMEMBER ONE THING: PROTECT YOUR INTEREST IN THIS CASE.
FORGET ABOUT SAVING THE MONEY. STORE OWNERS CAN RECOUP THEIR LOSSES THROUGH INSURANCE.
7. After the incident, try counselling. Talk to your counsellor in college. you can use them for free. If they are not available police also provide some kind of counselling. Talk to them. It really helps. [ i regret not doing that before]
=====================================================
[ these are some of the lessons that i have learnt through my graveyard shifts in Gas Stations and Convenience stores. ]

its not only the graveyard shift when these incidents occur..... I have been held up @ 4:00PM [ broad daylight].. It depends on locality and usually abundant in urban areas.

when i was a little kid, one of the sons of our neighbor was killed in a similar fashion in USA i had a picture in my mind at that time (about america) that itwas a place where there is a war going on. this sad incident has again making me nostalgic

may Pahsupatinath give shakti to the family to bear the pain of this great tragedy and loss and peace to the departed soul of our nepali brother

What's wrong with Texas.....I have been here for almost 8 years and I have always felt welcomed in here. Not to mention, I started out in the graveyard shift in the gas station in Houston.....I used to be always aware of the surroundings.....I don't mean to take anything away from Shekhar.....loosing a soul (especially Nepali) is very sad.....immediately after I read the (sad) news, I made few calls to see if I knew the poor soul....whole day I was thinking about this incident.....
Some poor soul thinks and dreams big about life in US.....and unluckily he has to be on the other side of gun......
I know the living is inexpensive in Texas that doesn't mean that this is bad state to live...If you don't live, please don't try to convey that this is bad state.....yeah ! some people had a bad experinces.....it might be their luck....I have always been happy here......

Peace to the soul.....

Hope the culprit will be in jail soon.....

amazing and other fellow nepali daaju bhai didi bahini,
i talked to some friends here when i got back from austin today and found out some details about the incident.
it is saddening to hear the whole thing.

He transferred from Arkansas to Northlake.
He was talking to a friend on the phone while the robbers got in.

oh and about being cautious, it may prevent robbery, but death is fixed, for all, me and you... It is not me saying, just read below how the incident occured that led to his death...
1. First of all, his mother was having bad dreams over a month and calling him regularly crying, suspecting something bad gonna happen... He used to talk back home everyday since then.
2. One day before the shooting, he was on his way to Alabama to pick some friends who just had transferred to North Lake College. But the fate has something else in his plan...[just like how Final destination movie] and his car broke down somehow on the way. He called a tow company to tow the car. Tow company said it'd cost him around $1400 for the whole trip due to long distance.
So he called one friend in dallas to ask what to do. He was suggested (may be car was little old) to sell it as there was no point in paying $1400 for that car just to tow. He sold his car to some shop for around $400 and came back to Dallas instead of going to Alabama as he could not pick his friends up.
3.Yesterday, he was not even supposed to work. Obviously as he was supposed to be in Alabama. His boss called him to come to work if he wants. Shekhar's brother is coming soon, so he was trying to work extra hours to save money so he can buy a car for his brother when he gets here.
4.There were two clerks, one Paki and Shekhar that time in the store. Whole thing would have been different if Shekhar would have been filling the cooler and Paki was at the register.
Anyway, Paki ran in the cooler when he saw the masked men with guns. They saw shekhar and asked him to open the register. He hung the phone up and tried to open the register. Again, fate has something else... register won't open. The same damn register he opened million times didn't open that time. This thing set one of the robber off and he shot shekhar.

Just track the whole incident of his death. It is freakin scary the way fate led him to that shift. May his soul get peace.

just heard the local news and still no clue about the suspects...
however there is a $10,000 reward from Arlington's Sheriff's department to any information that leads to their arrest.
lets hope someone comes up with something...

My Heartfelt Condolences to Shekhar's family.

It is heart wrenching to see a young man with aspirations being clutched by the hands of Death - an untimely death at that. Shekhar's demise brought forth a lot of "What If's" in my mind..which now trickles down to "If only....."
