Gurkhas have been fighting as part of the British Army for almost 200 years, but who are these fearsome Nepalese fighters?

One can be proud of their relatives being in gurkha. Just like one can be proud of being their relataves seeking foriegn employment such as being a programmer, accountant, engineer, doctor, and analyst in any part of this world. There is no reason to take a national pride for ppl joining british lahure, singapur lahure, hong kong lahure or even indian lahure. Its actually time for people to see what to be proud of and what not to be proud of as a nation. People need to use some intellect rather than what was said in Mahendra Maala. There is no national pride in people leaving to fight for another country. Its just seeking lucrative foreign employment, nothing more than that. Being said that, it is perfectly ok to seek foriegn employement seeing what our own country has to offer us.

notthing against nobody hai.. me bein a gurkha's son, i definitely support gurkha soldiers.. they have a bad reputation around the world no doubt.. but its not just magar, gurung, rai and limbu.. gurkha army have some newars, chettris as well.. its not about the race ... its more of pride for the nation.. everyone from nepal should be proud the gurkha soldiers have sketched a new map in the globe.. not much have been heard here in us but in europe and northern africa, gurkhas are considered living legends ... just be glad for what they have achieved for u and for me and the entire nation... don't be cockey now.. enjoy whats been offered...

The Gurkhas are probably the second best known 'product' to originate from Nepal... the first being Mount Everest.

buddha is a different story... no one know where buddha's from.. cause back then there was no such thing as this is india or this is nepal... there was no boarder...today, because of a lot of tibetans following buddhism, the world think thats where buddha was born... but its a whole different story i guess..

yes 7sea... if u read the above thread, its not about relation.. it just came up ... the two most famous products of nepal.. gurkha and buddha... but then people don't think budha is from nepal... cause our fked up government don't give a crap... thats how stupid the nepal rulers are.. wonder how things were back in kirat kaal... i am not kirat.. but being a magar makes me closer to them than to these current leaders..... and i am not racist or anything.. just wanted to see some changes...

The term gorkha came from the time of Nepal unification. The famous kings and warriors from Kirat (Rail Limbu-from Eastern Nepal) and the Magars (from Magarant regiion)played singnificant role in the unification of Gorkhali king.So much taken by the diplomacy of these brave kings ,there was a documented contract called 'Kipat system' in which the far eastern kiratis(Limbus) were retained their rights on their land until recent panchayat kaal Today's Rai Limbus are the original kirats who had been warrior from the time of Mahabharat(The mention of king yalamber , a kirati king and his bravery from today;s Nepal region is also reflected in Mahabharat) No doubt their bravery has continued to impact to this age and has made all us proud and bold gorkhalis. It symbolizes bravey.
