I had promised that I was going to start my own thread regarding stock investments and the markets. So many things have happened since last time I was here and I really do not feel like sharing my knowledge. But a promise is a promise and there have been few people that have emailed me and supported me.

This thread will deal with investing in the stock markets. I will not discuss individual stocks but discuss ETFs like SPY, DIA, IWM and QQQQ. The one good thing about trading ETFs compared to individual stocks is the the ETFs provide instant diversification among similar companies within the same sector.

I will post more as we go along, regarding entry-price, profit-target and stop-losses. I do not think that any ETF is good or bad. It is good only if I'm making money and bad if I'm losig money.

If you have not been in the market so far, please read this as an information piece only rather than my recommendations. There is risk involved and you should know how much risk to take on any position.

Any suggestations, comments and criticisms are welcome as long as it is market related. If this thread gets out of hand and we start discussing off-topics, I'll stop posting.

emini, i like your advice of looking at more Longer term. and i think i will go slightly longer term and not panic so easily... my biggest mistake was shorting oil... i bought DCR to short oil and i lost 20% in that 1 bet... so after that i try staying away from shorts.

As emini suggested above, i did some research... i think there is a possibility of a sell off coming in near future so i bought SDS to hedge against decline on S&P500. i didnt want to play with puts, easier to just use an inverse etf.

anyway krazyhorse, it seems that POT and IPI both are pulling back.... i think its going to test the thursdays lows... hopefully not... i want to sell this IPI soon.

Here are few picks. CSUN, ROYL, ACXM.

Buy these if these go higher than Friday's high. Stop will be close below the 50 day MA.

S&P hit 1420 on Friday. I think this 1420-1440 level is very critical. If we go past 1440, we will likely see another huge run up similar to 99-00.

 

i bought ROYL and put a stop loss at $2.98     i think 2.98 is the 50day MA

btw ROYL  fundamental not so hot... their cash flow and ROE sucks... but other than that they seem decent.
how long do most of your picks take to rocket up ?

Hey latoboy, we're on ROYL together. They have earnings coming out on the 15th. I will probably get out on Friday. I'm looking for 4.60-4.80 on this.

WSCI is coming pretty close to the 50 DMA, that will be a good opportunity to get back in since you missed the boat last time.

 

emini, you are awesome dude... man...  i completely forgot about WSCI until u mentioned it... i got back in this morning under $13 and now its up 5%.   also ROYL is up too 5%.

Watch out for     JASO     , earning on 12th, I loaded up today too..I'm gonna sell half of it just before earnings ..rest long..could hit 30 in a month or even before..Expect huge selloff after earning but eventually will go up , it doubled since last month....

Nicely done on WSCI, latoboy. I have been talking to few people about ROYL and they seem to like it. I might hold it through the earnings unless something better comes along or exit half before the earnings and see what happens with the other half.

I'm still holding it. It had a nice run up so few people are taking profits here. I had mentioned earlier that 1420-1440 was likely to be a major resistance and we saw a nice sell-off today. It got hammered with everything else but I will wait. If we do not see a bounce by Friday I might exit.

Just to add to my previous post. All the oil companies are beating the estimate so I'm willing to hold this through their earnings.

yes, but $1000 wont buy u much... its good only if u are medium - long term investor..

buy a index fund such as SPY , or tech sector QQQQ and just sit and watch it grow over many many years. maybe add more when u can.

if u meant u want to daytrade... 1000 is not enough... trading fees/commisions will kill your returns.
