Marwari community wants their representation in interim parliament

Marwari community has also demanded their share in the forthcoming interim parliament, which is to be formed after the promulgation of interim constitution.

Speaking at the national convention of Nepal National Marwari Council, its acting chairman Atma Ram Murarka said that the community, too, has decided to enter into politics and demanded at least two seats for the community in the interim legislature.

Deputy Prime Minister Amik Sherchan, addressing the concluding session of the council, assured the representation of Marwari community in the interim parliament.

Marwari community is a leading business community of the country.

"We" are Nepalese too! Why does that have to be mutually exclusive? And no one is saying all Biharis are Nepalese . But there are lots of Madesis living for generations in Nepal of Bihari heritage who are as Nepali as any Bahun, Chettri, Newar or setamagurali.

How much juice are we going to squeeze out of what might have happened in the 1800s and the 1900s?

More to the point, when we, as a nation, keep on looking backward, how will we ever learn to look foward? After all, it's hard to be looking backward and forward at the same time.

It's fair to say that the Nepali business world has moved on a lot to become, on the whole, a lot more competitive than what it was in the 1800s or the 1900s.

True, there is still NOT much competition in many sectors in Nepal, and some people/groups, for various reasons, are still enjoying unfair monopoly returns at the expense of the consumers or the janata.

Sure, these monopoly or monopoly-like situations need to be corrected so that more Nepalis get to play the game of business fairly and win and lose on the dint of their own efforts-- but that's a broader policy issue for us to tackle and NOT a narrow Marwari (or ethnic) issue to get hung up on.

Why am I not suprised at the answer? Ok, then riddle me this : how exactly are you going to find out who is Bihari and who is not? Don't tell me by how they look - half the country looks that way. Captain everyone is thinking logically and justifying their views, but you have not justified anything that you support. For example, you want to give support to the 30 lakh population in terai which already has raised arms against the Pahade and want their own army and police so they can legally evict Pahade.
