This is what I call highly impulsive mentality of Nepalese. I am sorry but I also am part of that community. I am quite surprised to see scanty number of people here who think rationally. Rest are blinded with their limited width of vision.

Okay, let's talk honestly. Let's do some self reflection.

Agreed. One or two sentences I have said in this thread might be of offensive nature. I am sorry if it did actually hurt any.

But, let's think neutrally without any prejudices.

I am not, by any means, trying to humiliate hard-working students. Like most of you, I do have high respect for people who work to stand on their own. I myself am one of them.

What I am trying to say is, if there are easier and more lucrative options than coming to America without much of a funding support or educational merits, then why not explore them? I am talking on behalf of my community, for the community. If voicing for the benefits of the community is being offensive and nosy, then I have nothing to say. You make your own decisions.

I came to US for my UG degree, with scholarships. I am doing pretty well so far and on the verge of finishing it off pretty soon. If everything works according to my plan, I may end up into one of the Ivy League schools for my graduate studies. I am one of the very few lucky ones, who did not have to think too much beyond studies during my UG. Most of the other Nepalese students who came along with me, including my roommates, have to work like dogs to make for tuitions. They don't have enough motivation to go for graduate studies because UG life itself has worn them out completely. Choice is theirs but I do feel for them. That is why this thread.

Two of my not-so-academically blessed friends who did their UG from Nepal, one from NEC and the other from KU, got admitted to first-tier schools just lately so they will be coming here pretty soon for their graduate studies.

So my friends, try to see the difference. On one hand we have many among us, working 60 hours off-campus, finding it hard to keep up with studies and work together. I salute those who are able to make good progress in both. But how many of us fall into that category? Whereas on the other hand, we have our own batch-mates, not so brilliant in studies, finishing their degrees from Nepal and coming here in equally or even better shape.

I urge you all to think about it and say if what I wrote is offensive.

And balbahadur et. al. Don't think you can scare anybody if you curse him with foul language. If you can, come up with logical arguments.

Ok,
Lets talk seriously Mr. Soktim.....I dont know who u are...But i definately can tell that you are one of those lucky student who got good scholarship....and AS WELL YOU ALSO VERY NARROW MINDED WHO DOES NOT HAVE RESPECT TO OTHER HARD WORKING STUDENTS.
Let me clarify,
The first thing is everybody does not get scholarship like you did. There are thousands of schorship available for international student and there are millions applying for it..Now the point is, the students who does not gets the scholarship can go to school paying their tution from their personal funding or not???U mean that education should be limited only to those people who gets scholarship????not to the students who does not get schoalrship???
If some students does not gets scholarship and if he/she wants to continue his/her education from personal funding such as from parents/loan or working then nobody including you should have any problem.....
You should be proud of those students who didnt get any scholarship and are working their as@@ss off to pay their tution and bill rather than giving bad coments and harrishing to them.
Mr Saktim....let me make you clear....I think its billions time good idea to work and continue school rather than staying in home being fraustrated and diapointed for not getting any scholarship.
And the last but not least!!!!!You dont take shower with dirty waters and try to convice people that you are one of the most clean person....

You think that you are the most smartest and intelligent nepali student in USA but you are one of the bullshit person I have ever encountered...
Mr. Smart Shoktim ji.....You need to think that THING HAPPENS SOMETIMES.....EVENTHOUGH WE DONT WANT TO!!!!
If your dad dies in traffic accident back in Nepal would you express same type of comments....(Fking shit why should he drive or ride....I dont care....me dad was a piece of shit...he should have walked rather than driving!!!I dont f\give a f@ck about my dad)
Or how would you feel if some body tells you these words in ur dad or moms death like you did to Avi??
U got to answer me My Smart Soktim!!!!

You know what guys, Soktim has a point here.

Well I did loose my dad to alcohol last year. But you know what eventhough I am sad and hurt with his departure, I still blame him coz it was because of his mistake, I lost my dad and my Mom lost her husband. Being the eldest son, i have the responsibility of my two younger sisters who are in high school in Nepal. But yes it was my dad's fault, as he was the sole responsible person to choose Alcohol and finally passed away leaving us 4 with sorrow and grief. Once in a while I do feel like why am i in grief, well my dad made a decision on himself to drink, noone forced him the alcohol through his throat!

Same scenario applies the Nepali student who untimely passed away in a car accident. but look at it, isn't this his fault to get involved in a race on the highway, being stupid and tragically get killed?

Same case happened a few months back when 3 nepalis were in a car accident, in that case too the driver(Nepali Student) tried to make a left turn from the right lane. whose fault is it here again?

Well i know most of the nepalese student who have been accusing Soktim of writing BS about a nepali being killed in a car accident, are themselves thinking in some corner of their miind well he was racing with another car and got in the accident. well I do have Sympathy to his family for the untimely loss of their beloved. Who knows better than me what a death in a family means, and its even worse when he was the back bone of your family.

Another point i did noticed was the way Soktim expressed his feelings was not appropiate, or would rather say not of the type which could be absorbed by the Sajhaites, especially when they have lost a beloved.

I do agree that all the sajhaites who used the curse words were under emotional stroke due to the loss of a beloved fren. but several people who did not even know Avi were just after Soktim because its a human nature. And far top of this we all Nepalese living thousands of miles away from our motherland and family do care about any Nepali in trouble. This shows that even though we may have become used to the burgers and tacos, steak and sandwich, hip-hop and rap, toilet papers and napkins we do still care for a fellow Nepali. The cultural feeding we received from our families and society back home are still intact and hope will always be.

Again how many of you guys here in Sajha really care what happens in Nepal. Is it just because we have our family back in nepal? or should i say how many of you really intend to go back to Nepal after your studies? I don't know what i will do myself personally. If i could I would stay in the US, not that I do not care about my Family. It would be much easier for me to support them if i stay here for few years. Yes I am a selfish person, as you might think. Family comes to me first then comoes Motherland and other stuff. I don't care if i am not being patriotic or responsible to my motherland. But guess what, for me my MOTHER IS MY WORLD. I starts in her and ends in her.It was her who gave birth to me and raised me giving alll the basic necessities a child would need eventhough my family was not of high class. my dad worked in a government office and the money he made was just enough for basic eminities. Raising three kids with the mere Govt. salary that my dad brought home, after using a bullk of it on Booze, was not easy for my MOM; but she did it.I am proud of my MOM. we went to a basic standard english school, that too was possible because the school had free tution for the third child from the same family. The owner of the school was our neighbor so he gave us further discount on tuition n fees.
Now here i am studying in US on full scholarship(wouldn't even dream of coming if it was not for scholarship), and my uncle's financial help (initial cost was covered by him, which i plan to payback if luck favors). and guess what i work at a gas station too and am maintaining a good GPA(3.9 to be precise).

well i read several posts filled with patriotism and some originators might be even serious, but 75% of the posters are just running after the crowd. just because someone writes Kick the King out, several replies bombbard the post with agrreing to the original post. And there comes someone who dares to challenge the basis of the claim everyone is after him/her, and stupid of them since they do not have any logical reasoning they use vulgar and curse words. Who do you think these acts proves right.

Similarly, in this post instead of coming up with counter arguments and make Soktim beleive that he is wrong, he needs to change his attitude what we do: curse him, his family......well some people did try to come up with some logic to counter argue Soktim but they just got lost in the crowd, their voice was not heard.

It is just a human nature to get into cult groups and mobs. thats how riots start. Just because a person is scared that he will be rejected from a group he just follows the group even if he knows that his deeds are wrong.

The main culprit here is the phenomenon of Deindividuation, i.e the loss of self/individuality. larger the group gets the more a person will lose personal responsibillity. the other factor is the physical anonimity, as no one knows your real identity(with few exceptions) and on top of that you just get lost in the crowd. you become less restrained, less self-regulated and are more likely to act outside of our values.

One of the major factors for our behavior is the illusion of invulnerability and conformity pressure. Our primary "Need to be Accepted" has led us to such an extent of cursing each other in several posts. Just because bunch of others think "X" is wrong just don't go aftert their thoughts; put in your individual thought and arguments.

Well after all this writing I know what to expect, I will be the new center of Hatred and all the cursing will be directed to me now. well it don't matter to me, as you might have heard the famous Nepali saying: "Kukur haru bhukdai garchhan, Haatti lamkirahanchha"
and FYI I do not know who Soktim is and in no way am i related to him.

and let me also inform you about what the new rumor is gonna sound like:
" There's a new person in sajha who is writing like Soktim, lets kick his a$$."
And the reaction from 70% sajhaites: replies full of curse and vulgar words. just to show what they learned from US culture- the curse words. hurrah.

Peace.

hey Nepal bro u have a good sense of judgement. i admit it. personally i hate soktim for whatever he said about "illegal students working in gas stations". his words and the language was not in any way appropriate. it was disrespect and humiliating. you too work in a gas station and you know what we are trying to do. we r trying to help our families back home, pay our tuition and bills. unfortunately we didnt get any scholarship not because we are dumass but because of different circumstances. i too applied for scholarship but didnt get it. scholarship payena bhandai ma america aauna nai na hune??? hami le kale haru jasto gayera lootera ani white trash haru jasto magera ta khayeko chhaina. at least garba ko saath kaam garchhau ani padhchhau pani. ani soktim lai GPA ko testai concern chha bhane i and other sajhajati will fax their transcript. he doesnt need to brag about his academic merits. there are many other intellectual people in sajha. hes not the boss and not on the top!!
bro timro kura sunda dukkha lagyo. j gardai chhau thikai gardai chhau.keep it on!!! soktim jasta bhusya pagal kukur bhukdai garchha tara hatti le bato chodnu hudaina!

Hey Mr. nepal birsiyechhu,
I am quite impressed from your views. You are 100% right. Nice to see that you have knowledge and right words to express it...I agree with your views...

But still I do not agree with Soktim. He thinks that he is superman. My question is if some nepali student do not get scholarship, can't they come here to study? Can't they work in Gasstation and pay their tution? Does Soktim means that if you get the schoalrship, come to USA, work 20 hrs, concentrate inn ur studies and make fun of other nepalese who are working to pay their tution and humilate them!!!!

Isn't working in Gasstation 50-60 hrs, paying tution as well helping family back home, getting average 3.5 Gpa a good idea rather than staying in NEpal being fraustrated, feeling unlucky abt their lucks, hanging out with frens 24/7.

if you do not how to use the right words while talking, u better stay quite Mr. SOktim.......rather than humilating other nepali people....

ANd Mr. Nepal Birsiyechhu, I wont tell u any thing bad or curse you or use bad words..but infact i appreciate your views.
Thanks,

I wish a luck and support to all the nepali student who is working and financing their study and their family rather than staying with fraustration in Nepal of not getting scholrship.....

Soktim has definitely changed his tone from his earlier post. His first post was disrespectful, no doubt. Now he's changing his tone as if he's genuinely concerned about Nepali students’ career and studies. What a hypocrite.

Nepali students who work illegally (in gas stations etc) have made us all shameless.....Last night, I saw a nepali student working in a gas station. Upon being asked, he said he was making money for his tuitions and six pack corona everyday. I was like dyam......

He said Nepali students are illegal. He and other scholarship winners are shameless because of the students working in gsstations. Why was he ashamed, what have they done to him? The gas station clerk did say he’s making money for tuition, and he says “dyam.”

It is definitely wise to come here for masters. No doubt, if full or even partial scholarships. I have for years raised my voice in sajha. The best way I could. Nepali students getting lost in the woods of Colorado ( estes park last year) , dying in car accidents, Only Nepali students working in Ocean City and Estes Park, Illegally – vulnerable to humility and losing their status for working off campus. The pain is not simple. I wish our brothers and sisters would come in grad studies where they could apply for financial assistance or scholarships.
However, as long as showoffs like Soktim exist in our society, nothing better will happen. Piece of hypocrite Shyyttt

I think some people do have a point... i agree some of people are able to make good GPA inspite of thier hard works...but i still think many are unable to do that... many people are here just because they want to be in US and are not a lot concerned about thier studies.. no matter what you guys say but doing works illegally is no way justified..imagine what is going to happen if something happens/?
Arent people supposed to think this before they come to US but they wont because everyone is so attracted by US...
The other problem i see here with people is that whenever somebody says good about him.. people think he is bluffing and the guy is taken as if he wants everyone to know about that....I feel sorry for the mindset that you people have...How is people supposed to say that i have a GPA of 4.0 or i am in a Ivy league? in whatever ways he says it everyone is going to think that he is bragging? this is the nepalese mindset.. u guys have been in Us but still your brain cant think in a practical way and you guys just want to cpmpare yourselves
I apologise if i said something tahts against you or if i do not make sense at all.
