I had promised that I was going to start my own thread regarding stock investments and the markets. So many things have happened since last time I was here and I really do not feel like sharing my knowledge. But a promise is a promise and there have been few people that have emailed me and supported me.

This thread will deal with investing in the stock markets. I will not discuss individual stocks but discuss ETFs like SPY, DIA, IWM and QQQQ. The one good thing about trading ETFs compared to individual stocks is the the ETFs provide instant diversification among similar companies within the same sector.

I will post more as we go along, regarding entry-price, profit-target and stop-losses. I do not think that any ETF is good or bad. It is good only if I'm making money and bad if I'm losig money.

If you have not been in the market so far, please read this as an information piece only rather than my recommendations. There is risk involved and you should know how much risk to take on any position.

Any suggestations, comments and criticisms are welcome as long as it is market related. If this thread gets out of hand and we start discussing off-topics, I'll stop posting.

Have a happy new year!!!! May 2007 bring you and your family lots of joys and riches.

wow quite impressive...u guys had chance to meet buffet..

me myself just avg IT guy, i have too much interests in technology... and i dont have kids so i have not much idea when he says that. but he is one really smart guy..so i respect him..

lot of traders, investment bankers, also maybe IT people seem to have issues with work-life balance..
i am guessing u are facing similar dilemna as many of us...  i work 50 hours week average and its hard for me sometimes.. but i think it is probably worse for many others because market can react while u are sleeping..

anwyay abt trading, overall just like most people i have lost money lately, since i started trading(6 months ago), i am down 6% overall. not your fault or anything. i made some big $$$ and also lost some big $$$ specially trying to bottom fish.

1 thing i have learnt from u is to buy into your position 1/3 at a time.. i used to buy the whole thing at once.. and that led to big losses.

i have personally stayed away from this sector lately.

Done completely. I think I've already shared about 80% of what I know. For the people that I sent the scans to, you can email me if you have any questions about stocks or the market in general.

Good Luck.

I won't buy financials here. We will probably bounce to 1360-1400 and have another leg down to 1080-1100 which will end this bear market, then you can buy as much as you want. Do not try to catch the falling knive. If you want to buy any stock, make sure that it meets the conditions that I sent in the scan. That way you'll have more winners than losers.

thx for reply

i got 3 questions

1st -   what u think about WSCI ?

i took a nibble at $6.75 and it seems few days back vector vest put this in their model portfolio so volume surged and now its at $9.6...      which is approx 40% gain ..

currently resistance is at 9.9

im stuck between sell or hold..... since i have no idea how vector vest stock recommendations react after few days.

2nd -  wht u think regarding V ?

i bought this in 50's and sold at 80's.. perfect timing.. its now down at 68 or so...  i am getting tempted to buy this for long term investing...   any opinion ?

also 3rd question-  what do u see overall for US economy 20 years from now... i only see negative... am  i wrong to be so negative? i am worried about the US$... i think US $ currency might be almost worhtless if the govt doesnt change policies to affect Budget deficit (us owes a ton of money to foreign country)... if china cashes out its bills from us treasury... if opec stops pricing oil in US$... and maybe im being too pessimistic but i think all might happen in 20 years or so.

i can see china, india, middle east going to be huge economies and the US going to be less and less relevant. my opinion US will be like what UK is right now... a huge empire in the past but now less so.
what u think ?

Vectorvest is really good. I know few people that use it and are doing very good. WSCI is in a good business and should do better. I'll hold on to that.

V is going down with the market. I'll buy it once things get better.

I'm not sure what will happen in 20 years but the US will be fine. Dollar will rebound after this president is out of the office.

anthony 15:  I read a bearish article about solar stocks in Barrons. Two biggest solar energy buyer, Germany and Spain, are cutting subsidy and US Congress hasn't been able to pass funding legislation yet. I am still holding SOLF expecting it to get a nice bounce with the market and so far it failed my expectation.

I see u following solar stocks and wondering what really is making u so bullish?

New rules on naked short-selling will be effective from monday and BAC and WB along with many regional banks are reporting earnings this week, it will be interesting to see this rally will continue or not. Financials were the best performing sector past week and energy the worst. Lets see how market unfolds itself this week.

Good Luck Everybody.

yes i am long CHCG

i dont see why there would be "serious" resistance at 2.25

i see some resistance but nothing to severe.

i might add to it after a few days if the run continues..

Emini,
have a great summer "break." I hear you when you say family comes first. It indeed does.

Latoboy,
let us keep this thread moving instead of creating a new one. The guy who originated this thread at least should be reckoned as a courtesy this way.

On the market, I don't think you should get into financials for the time being. I think there will be another pull back when you can get into.

CHCG has been on my watch list since long time ago. It was recommended by Emini.

Best!

Bri

this is the power of using options but also the risks. i bought these just few days/week back.

and i average down slowly.

most of the times i sell my calls within the same day or next day.

i see another good company getting slaughtered today. hahaha

CHK - one of the best nat gas stocks.

i bought this in march in 40's and sold it a month back in 60's.. and now its near 48.

wow i think its getting quite tempting. im tempted to get back into this... in 30's and 40's it is very cheap.

The market is really volatile... I do not see much confidence here in investing in anything Choppy waters, hence it is advisable to play safe bets. I got into WM at mid 3s today. I think it will payoff on the long run. I also think FNE and FRM to be a good bet after the Saturday's signing of the bill. Again these are long-term investment. CHCG has very much of an upside potential. It is like "best buy", "circuit city" version in China in consumer electronics. The best in that industry line stands to be DGLY. Good luck to all the investors. Best! Bri
