Dear Sajhahities,

I know, marriage is once in a lifetime event. And i believe, one must attend their sibling's wedding if situation permits.

What could be other good reasons that you can think of, which would convince my boss to approve my vacation?

Also, please share such experiences if you have any.

P.S. need to travel from US to Nepal.

Thanks!
Bachata

Don't know if you have a certain policy for vacation at your work but you should just be able to take your vacation days off without giving any specific reason. Its your Vacation. You've earned it. However, If you need a reason, just tell your boss it's your sibling's wedding. That should be a good enough reason.

What better reason would you need other than the actual function itself?

Thanks for your input guys.

There is not any sort of  rule for vacation. I have 22 days for this year. Due to downsize of company, less personnel are working. so, it is kind of tough timing to go on vacation.

I think my question was not too clear-- I was looking for some points/reasons to attend on sibling's wedding. Since it is not mine, the wedding can go on regardless of my presence. So, why would you want/need to participate in that function?

Make up a ritual. "In my religion, there is this ritual. When your sibling gets married, you have to <insertamadeupritualhere>". If they question it, accuse them of being racists.

Jokes aside, I can't think of anything other than the wedding being important because it is a once in a lifetime event for your sibling, and hence very important to you as well.

tell them, unlike West, people usually get married only once in their lifetime in Nepal. Hence it is extremely important to you and your f amily and tell them you'll be able to telecommute if need be (make sure you'll be able to do it before you say this).

Why u need to give reason, I mean u can tell boss casually if u have good rapo...or just apply for days off u have. They can't terminate u for asking days off.
