Earlier I saw this video in YouTube and it was supposed to be funny.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWynJkN5HbQ

I didn't watched it full though.

Later someone posted on his facebook that he hates when people here in US ask him where he originally from. And that was that. I thought about it and could not resist myself writing this thread.

Its a trivial issue and don't know whether its worth of discussing. Just expressing my views because I don't like the way the lady is reacting to that friendly looking guy in the video. I think the man was just trying to be friendly and not trying to make any offense on her country of originality.
In fact, asking where you originally from is very natural and I welcome such question from anyone as an starting point of conversation. I think everyone does that. If we met some foreigners in Nepal, that might be our first question. I also do that to any foreigners and even to "madhesis". If madhesis say they are from some terai part of Nepal, I would be suspicious(sorry madhesis .. loll). Not only to foreigner we do that to each other when we first met by asking "Pahaad Ghar kaa ho??".
So, to those guys who doesn't like such question, I believe you should welcome such queries positively.

Have a happy immigrant life.

I think the animated response was justified in par to the ignorance of the white male's question.

He asked where are you from and her response was spot on, " I am from San Diego." Where are you from? I was born in Orange County. When he went further than that he just sounded like ignorant disrespectful prick.

In my opinion, i didnot like the white male's question too.

In this day and age, every one is from here and there. She identified herself from a particular place but he still insisted on getting different answer which seemed disrespectful.

If someone asks me where I am originally from my answer would be born and raised in Nepal.
If someone asks me where i am from the the answer would be New York.
In my experience if someone asks where I am from they are expecting both answers i.e. I was born and raised in Nepal but now live in...
People who may be second generation immigrants I think do not like this kind of question as they were born here raised here and live here.
